Week 10 'Advanced' Box Score: VT vs Louisville

Hey Nerds, back with yet another home-cooked advanced box score. Continuing to tweak the format. As always, feedback is welcomed.

WTF am I looking at and how do I read this???
The purpose of this format is to take a bunch of (so called) advanced metrics from a single game, and compare them to a larger sample size, in hopes of gaining a better understanding of how good/bad the team performed.

  • The numbers in the left-most column of each table (the color coded columns) represent the team's week 10 performance
  • The numbers in the 5 right columns represent the Minimum, Lower Quartile, Median, Upper Quartile, and Maximum across a given sample.
  • As mentioned previously, the metrics from the most recent game are color coded:
    • White/no color = median
    • Dark Green = really good (approaching a min or max, depending on the metric)
    • Dark Red = really bad (approaching a min or max, depending on the metric)

How did this VT offensive performance compare to past offensive performances this year?

How did Louisville's Defensive performance to their past performances this year?

How did this VT defensive performance compare to past defensive performances this year?

Some quick Callouts:

  • If you are unsure of what a given stat means, check here.
  • Nothing here is opponent adjusted
  • Last week I included 2 additional charts that compared single game performances to national averages. I did not include those this time because I felt that it was a wonky comparison and not very informative.
  • Feedback is always welcomed - happy to iterate on the format. Tell me what you like/don't like.
