SI article- Discussing the idea of Vick as a backup at 9rs

Most of us have followed MV7's career closely since he was recruited. Like most of you, I feel Mike is more interested in playing (a.k.a. starting) no matter how much of a contender the team is. Leaders and winners (like Mike) aren't looking to hitch a ride on the bench to get a ring. I am hoping he lands somewhere better than Buffalo or another 'Siberia of the NFL' kinda team, but wherever he goes he has to be at least given a chance to start.

GO HOKIES!

49ers can't be an option, they have the wrong mascot. Teams Vick has played for:

Hokies (bird)
Falcons (bird)
Eagles (bird)

There's no way its a coincidence! So his only NFL options are the Ravens, Falcons, Eagles, Cardinals, Seahawks, and if he wants to stretch it a bit the Jets since planes are sometimes referred to as birds.

If Vick becomes a Jet there will be the issue of #7... Geno Smith wears #7... its nearly impossible to imagine MV without a #7. What will happen?

geno would probably sell the number to him

As a Panthers fan who is currently freaking out over free agency it's nice to get a break from that and think about Vick. I think he ends up a Jet.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Not sure what Gettelman(sp) is doing but I'm thinking he has a plan...something tells me that Rivera signed off on them cutting Smith too....I don't know what my Cowboys are doing

Apparently Smith didn't like Cam. QB always wins. We need Nicks bad.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Jets seems most logical, being that he already has an east coast presence and following. He will sell ALOT of jerseys in NY too, which I'm sure the NFL is very conscious of. (They are still wearing Teblow jerseys there) Besides them being a blah kinda franchise, the Jets have been the Bermuda Triangle for QBs the past couple years. Although, I'd rather see him in a big market on a so-so team, rather than somewhere like Tampa, St. Louis or KC. GO HOKIES!

Yeah, no way he goes to the 49ers. He's going somewhere he can start. Somewhere with a QB no one wants around anymore where the team can get a project QB to groom for a couple years and still win games.

agree. there are so many bteams that need a real starter. His experience alone is worth a shot.
but jersey sales will be an incentive for sure

I think he means they acquire Vick to use as a primary QB while they coach up Thomas.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Wasn't really specifying Thomas, but pretty much anyone. I know that was the discussion when Adrian Peterson tweeted about Vick. However with Vick's fragility it might require a more polished to start out than you might want. Then again, getting some real game reps might be beneficial.

-plus Vick is not the same type of QB as Thomas. They are both pretty unique. I could see Thomas learning from / bonding with Cam Newtown but he's not exactly a seasoned vet just yet. I like the sentiment but I'd much rather see them playing (starting) on separate teams against eachother. GO HOKIES!

I've always thought that it would benefit a team to build a roster to fit the offensive philosophy of mobile quarterbacks. Take three guys with similar size/skills and line them up 1-2-3. Kaepernick, Cam Newton, and Terrell Pryor as starter, backup, and 3rd string. That way, if you have an Eagles-like situation where the starter with the unique skill set goes down, you have a backup that can fill the same role without changing the offense.

Also the reason why I want the Redskins to pick up MV7 and Tyrod. 2nd and 3rd string behind RGIII. Similar guys, same offense.

I found it perplexing that Vick and Foles weren't used as a dual threat. (before Vick's injury) My gut feeling is that Kelly was already mixing it up enough with the new offense and wanted to have something steady to build around, which goes to my second point is that he anticpated Vick leaing after one year and it made a lot more sense to build around Foles.(after Vick's injury)

That being said, no way he stays with Foles more than 2 seasons. Foles' numbers are deceptive and Kelly wants to bring in his own QB... Mariota perhaps?

RG3, MV7 & TT5 - that would be badass.

In other news, now that the Panthers secondary is almost completely depleted and we are about to get Hakeem Nicks I say their is a decent chance Kyle Fuller gets drafted by us in the first round, or at least I hope.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

49ers picked up Gabbert today.

And Jonathan Martin.

As a Jax resident I love to see him playing for the Jags. You know they need anything they can get, and great combo with MJD.

Didn't y'all release MJD?

not YET, but the deal they just made with Toby Gerhart yesterday pretty much sealed that deal. didn't realize it would be inevitable.

This. Won't. Do!

Did LOLUVA win something?

Wish the Vikings could have made a move to get him. Looks unlikely now that they re-signed Cassell. Jets don't have as many offensive weapons, but they did sign Decker.

I'm OK with anywhere but Buffalo, as long as he starts.
Hate watching him in the sidelines with so many highlight reels to be made.

GO HOKIES!
