The Hokiestone stands out so much more in this with the orange border than they did on the previous set. And the orange sleeve numbers, ahh how I've missed that.
Also, the maroon collar on the white with the VT logo on both? That's such a good decision. Instant classic look. Some might say it's boring, but we absolutely nailed it by mixing up modern touches to the traditional format. It's VERY uniquely Virginia Tech without beating your head in about it. Love them.

What we can see, its the late 90s template with the current numbers and a small VT on the collar. The thinner helmet stripes from this past season remain, and no other stripe is a part of the set.

I think something more than just solid color pants would be interesting, but more of a nitpick than a major issue.
Almost anything would be an improvement over the prior jerseys...I would refer to them as the "Malaise era" set.
Look awesome. That 1996-2003 (or the Vick-era or 99 unis, whatever you want to call them) template is the quintessential VT Football look to me. It's classic, unique, clean, not overly flashy but just looks really sharp. Like that they added a couple modern touches with the updated number font and Hokiestone pattern in the numbers, but kept the rest of the template pretty spot on with the originals. Looking forward to seeing the long-lost orange variant of these and some different combos with the helmets, including the traditional solid maroon which I know will be the main look. I'm super pleased with these!

IMO it's 100% on VT for not anticipating this, they should have seen this coming.
Yeah, I mean Whit alluded to the fact that they had these promo images taken a month or so ago, but they wanted to wait to delay so there would be some merchandise on shelves when it was announced. Still don't have the merch (nobody who is announcing new jerseys has them, yet) and as such they had to do this: Sign up to find out when you can buy
Should have just announced them back in June if they didn't want it spoiled by the video game. They're lucky it didn't leak earlier, given we're supposedly a Top 20 team in the game, but it was inevitable it was going to happen when the embargo lifted on influencers to build up hype in the leadup to release.
We have a documented 40 year history of how our marketing and merchandising works. It is totally terrible and unacceptable compared to our peers not to mention "big" schools. We never have the amount of official merchandise (Nike) available to fans in comparison. We don't have custom Hoops jersey's by Nike for example. Can't order a Wessler Nike jersey. Can't. You can order custom Duke hoops jersey's though. Football coaches jackets/vests by Nike? nope. Maybe you see them 2 years later on fanatics. It's awful. I'm told VT licensing is in the stone ages so Nike simply doesn't deal with it. Stone ages.
I was afraid I wouldn't like them. Fears assuaged.

THIS is where it gets tricky. If we were Michigan or UNC, they would be on fanatics now- in both colors, and stocked for order. Since we are VT, what has traditionally happened is that a few weeks into the season, you will get a maroon only option with 1, maybe 2 number choices at Alumni Hall/Campus empo only to start. Next may you May see them for order on fanatics. I sincerly hope I am wrong, and we can custom order them soon in players we want- but I wouldn't hold your breath
Ehh with our NIL ventures right now I wouldn't be shocked to see quite a few players available for purchase this fall.

I thought I would be good with the uniform based on everything we heard...but I really dig these unis! In particular, the orange trim on the numbers of the white jerseys combined with the stripes on the white hats make that a slick look. New spin on a classic look, and I couldn't be happier!

Amen. I go back to the days of having to buy a top line receiver that could auto decode via the optical cable. lol. Good times. The e ARC is awesome and simple. In the streaming world, its often the only thing you need to hook up.
I've had old AF, but quality stuff since I graduated and my wife finally convinced me to switch to Sonos for our living room a couple years ago. My mind was blown switching from optical to eARC, it's awesome. Still not sold on Sonos from a longevity standpoint, but you can't beat how easy it is to setup.
What is this? Is it just a different cable or a device between TV and sounds system?
Someone will explain this better than I will, but it's an HDMI port that allows audio return in full resolution. It can be used to deliver audio to the receiver and depending on your home theatre setup can eliminate the need to run separate cables for audio and video.
Most TV's post around 2017 have an HDMI port that is labeled ( e ARC)- look on the back of your TV. This enables an e ARC compatible receiver or soundbar ( all modern ones, most post 2015) to automatically encode dolby, atmos, 5.1 surround program and deliver that to the speakers or soundbar. If you plug into a regular HDMI port, you need to switch the audio source to surround- and it will be generic anyway (garbage). Prior to e-arc, surround sound was not delivered through HDMI at all. You needed to use a coax or optical audio cable hooked to the TV or cable box to deliver auto encoded surround sound.
Here I was in college hooking my laptop up to my parents old (but kickass) Sony receiver from 1998 with a red/white to aux 3.5 mm patch playing music thinking "Ah they never thought of this in '98!" Mind blown - did not know about this feature either.
Found it on the back of the TV and DID NOT have the soundbar plugged into the eARC HDMI slot. Will try after kids go to bed.

Dude these are sick. I'm a big fan of the older white facemask helmet that I think would make these better and maybe move the shoulder numbers to the top, but they did a really really fantastic job with these. Holy shit. After all the hand wringing, they did *exactly* what fans have wanted them to do for 20 years and IMO even improved it because the whites look better than the Vick era whites.

I used to have the T-shirt replica of this they gave away at a game my freshman year. It was quite popular. The day it had to be retired after years of wear and tear was a somber one
Now we can have fun with the helmets. That is all done by the staff on campus.
I'd expect one script helmet, one nested tv helmet and probably the state+tech.
I'd be cool with a maroon helmet with the old academic logo in white. I know that won't happen though.
They need to do a fighting gobbler, and get the outline right so it doesn't look so chunky. Need the thin double outline to make it right.
These are beautiful. Is there any word on whether we can expect an orange jersey? I'm guessing we won't have one. The last uniforms were revealed with maroon, orange, and white.
Probably reveal it for the Orange Effect game. I don't really want a new orange jersey, just go with the 2017 OE jerseys.
If we do, and that's not a certainty, I would be willing to bet it'll be a special design, else it would have been part of the unveil today

Question: when else has VT done EXACTLY what the fanbase wanted? Ever since I got to Blacksburg 10+ years ago, 90+ percent of the fanbase was asking for this exact jersey to be the permanent uniform. When they announced there'd be new unis, nearly everyone asked for exactly this, like exactly this, but expected it to not be this.
Whit hired a real modern hoops coach after he fired James Johnson. Whether it was lucky or an accident, we desperately wanted better than a low level assistant running the program.

That guy had no idea what he was doing. This is on the athletic dept and maybe Nike for dragging their feet.
He also apologized and said he was playing with VT first because he's from VA and likes Tech. We're not the only school who's unis got leaked. Other gamers leaked some other schools new unis. EA should've told those people not to play with specific teams.
Did EA even know? They probably just asked for teams to submit uniforms and then modeled them.
Yeah I mean I feel bad for VT having their unveiling plans spoiled, but at the same time, in this digital age you have to be acutely aware that leaks are going to happen. We were literally coming right up on the release of CFB 25 - and the gaming community is massive and all over the internet. I don't know why we had to wait until 7/12, whether it was internal or Nike slowing us down or what. But we should have been able to anticipate leaks, and honestly why would it spoil our reveal? Most normal people aren't online looking at YouTube gamers videos for their news. VT could've still had the big official reveal today and it would have still kicked ass. I feel like they had other plans that somehow got cancelled today and I'm sad about that. We should have still done the full celebration for this - who cares if a YouTuber leaked it? Maybe VT social pays too much attention to social media? Yes - we are going to know about these things on TKP and other VT sites, we are not your normal fans. We are all really weird nerds. But still the bulk of the consuming public would have enjoyed the unveil.
Anyway who cares, the uniforms are sick and everyone in the country is jealous and thinks our uniforms rule. Hats off to VT they totally killed it. Hopefully they know how appreciated their work truly is with this.

But the fanbase didn't complain! LOL we were excited to see the leak and then the real deal. The VT twitter got butt hurt a bit. But hey its ok, I really hope they know how appreciative the whole fanbase is and the CFB nation at large. Everyone loves these uniforms - they are the talk of the offseason.
That's why I'm not watching the video above, and will see it when I fire up the game.

I am not personally a fan of the way Hokie Stone ends up looking on uniforms. I get why we're using them, its a huge part of Virginia Tech and I love the buildings but numbers just look...weird to me.
That's a personal preference thing, and overall I think they're cool - and I'm glad we finally have them.
I'm with you I'm glad TV doesn't usually pick up the hokie stone numbers I think they look bad especially on curves where the stone seam splits the number directly in half
Yea, agree. It's really hard to replicate the 3D depth and texture of a Hokie stone wall on a simple, miniturized 2D print. It ends up looking like a bunch of differently shaped rectangles juxtaposed together. It is unique and representative, but hard to know what it is without prior knowledge of it being Hokie stone.
Not gonna lie I don't like the Hokiestone numbers, like at all. Otherwise they're great.

I think the Hokiestone is prominent because of lighting and editing. I doubt it looks like that in real life.
prominent or not who designed them to curve? Every stone on campus is cut to a rough rectangle but every number curve has some weird "stone" curve.
IMO they should have just had a normal hokiestone pattern and overlayed that over the numbers without adding any weird curvatures to it. The 2 and the 5 look not great.

Now that we've moved on, I want to throw out a retrospective on the old jerseys.
The fronts weren't that bad, and they were fairly unique to us. I feel very certain, as someone who works in a design profession, those jerseys were designed from one angle only. No one ever bothered to figure out how to terminate the stripe.
The worst of it was how the name placards were used. Sometimes they were wide enough to cover the end of the stripes, and you couldn't see how bad the termination was. But others, the placard only covered part of the stripes, or none. It made the jerseys look ridiculous. Maybe the most ridiculous thing was the stripes that came off the collar in the back. They never made sense.
Fix the placards, omit the weird extra chunk of stripe, and win in them; the hatred would be far less.
I still think they just made us look like Power Rangers, combined with the tapered helmet stripe. Just looked cartoony to me.

We have 2 uniform colors produced by Nike and marketed by VT for this season - Maroon and White. Our biggest fear of course is that we cobble something else together to try to look cool- which has never worked. For example, we use the old orange pants with one of these new sets, etc. Yeah I know its 2024 and "all black" looks great (theoretically) etc, etc etc. But let's stick to the professional designs and combos and not let twitter and the equipment guys throw something together for a night game to look "cool". Redskins fans wanted black uni's for years until the real ones look like total ass. The only good black uniform in the NFL remains the Raiders/Steelers jerseys. The jets look like ass, the eagles look like ass, etc.

Had this conversation this morning at work actually. Seat backs have apparently all be installed.
Those are real seats on the west side and its the most glorious fucking thing ever. I hate fucking people without tickets crowding into the row and standing in "your" seat. I've gotten in to many of those arguments to count in Lane. Thank god for permanent individual seats. Drunk fucks can go "stand with their boys" elsewhere.
The seat backs were part of the excuse for raising tickets prices this year in the west area.
These uniforms really seem to accentuate the umm....muscles....of our players under the lights.

I'm late to the party but it can't be understated how happy I am that we didn't muck this up. Tech and Nike had every opportunity to put out something half-assed that would split the fanbase. By and large these look great and I'm hype to see what alternates we are going to have.

Here's just a little more detail around the numbers. I actually am going to have to change my stance on the sublimation of the Hokiestone in this set. I don't think its the lighting, I think its absolutely more prominent in this set than it was on the previous

The promo materials from hokie sports uses more "prominent" as the word. So I guess there was something changed

Can't speak to when they're going on sale at Hokiesports but Campus Emporium has had them available online for a few weeks.

A friend of mine received his and said the numbers are misaligned. The 5 is slightly higher than the 2, when you look at them on the website, its hard not to see it.
My dumb ass is sitting here thinking, " who is 52, why is that number special?"

This one? They are "level" if you base it on the orange outline... But it provides an optical illusion with the lines on the bottom of the 2 and top of the 5 running for a distance. Optically your brain wants to extend to something more than just a tangent POINT on the adjacent number. Blown up, zoomed in, they are on the same alignment. It's just appears to be off with these 2 numbers and their shapes.
I hope you are right, when I zoomed on the website they looked off by a piping thickness.
