Looks like we will no longer be able to use the terminology going forward thanks to the Cocks

I'm sure their next coach will be pleased to carry that legacy.
VT needs to retaliate and trademark cock commander.
How dare they
Illustrates how petty Shane has been toward VT as of late and on the recruiting trail. Good luck transferring that trademark to a G5 school after you get fired this year.
And honestly, I'm kind of glad to be moving on from "Beamer Ball." This is a new era of VT respecting the past but building something new. I also in a way hope the 25 jersey thing ends soon too.
It's funny... I was listening to SZD this week, and Godfrey was talking about how Shane isnt quite on the hot seat, but he's not doing much to endear himself to a lot of the big money folks. He went into more details, but a lot of it was the same rumors I read about Shane on paywall sites when he was coaching at VT (he was entitled, rubbed people the wrong way, etc).
Sounds like he doesn't have the knack for connecting with people that Frank had.
He is utterly devoid of the country charm and earnestness that his dad had. This isn't 1992 so you can't do everything the way his old man did, but about twice a year he does something that makes me go "what a prick"
About 8-9 years ago I spent a day at a job site with a guy who was also an ACC official. I asked him a ton of questions about football and VT. He spoke extremely highly of Beamer and Foster. He said Foster was always respectful and reasonable, even when he got animated. He said the only VT coach who he didn't like and would consider an asshole is Shane.
That's fine, everyone knows the proper spelling is Beamerball. Let's trademark that.
Before people dive headfirst into an oh poor us death spiral, this has literally nothing to do with VT. Some bellend USC podcast was using the phrase on merch, and Frank encouraged Shane to quash it.
Also the trademark is for the two words Beamer Ball. We have pretty much always used the one word Beamerball or BeamerBall.
Calm down.
Time to move forward and embrace the Pry Bar Demolishing.
Meh still pending
As noted above, it will be interesting when Shane is fired. I'm not sure there's a worse job in the country for an aspiring big-time coach to take.
Agreed, every school in the SEC that isnt a blue blood is basically a death sentence job unless you are the next Nick Saban. Tbh even now...Someone out of Texas, OU, LSU, Bama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Tenn is not making hte playoffs regularly...and they'll get canned despite having 'not terrible' seasons
OU has been pretty good about not firing a coach, the rest but so much
Counterpoint: Kentucky
I feel like Kentucky and SCar kind of coexist in the same wavelength.
The difference is that Kentucky fans will be happy with 8-4 while SCar fans think they're one coach away from a championship
That's fair.
And this impacts us how?
In this link are the search results for trademark applications for "BEAMER BALL"
Frank applied to own "BEAMERBALL" but did not get it, and let the application go abandoned. The Spurs Up Show and a retail company in SC both applied for "BEAMER BALL" and the retail company has abandoned their application, and the Spurs Up case was opposed by Univ. of South Carolina, who ended winning the opposition and will move forward with obtaining the trademark.
But looking into it, there's some history. Apparently this dude Chris Phillips from The Spurs Up Show was selling Beamer Ball shirts and applied for the trademark. Looking at comments on reddit and such, he was a bit of a dick about it, but essentially he was holding it for his financial gain at the expense of the Univ. and the Beamer family. So, he was making money off the Beamer name without anyone's approval, and he should not have any ownership of the Beamer family brand. The Univ. filed an opposition against him in the USPTO and ending up winning. And it appears that Univ. of SC did this with full support of the Beamer family. This is a good outcome, unless you're for some carpetbagger profiting off the Beamer name.
One side anecdote. The attorney for the Spur Up Show was previously disciplined back in 2007 for abuse of cocaine while performing legal services. Yikes.
hmmm I normally see illegal services performed by those on cocaine.
you've been hanging out with Charlie Sheen?
Not that I remember
oh, just wondering which people you've seen on cocaine and performing services of the illegal type, lol. Thought it was "hookers and blow" reference.
I think my joke went over your head there
You talking about Shane?
no.
I don't like this. It violates my hot take that THIS IS BAD! BEAMERBALL IS A VIRGINIA TECH THING!
Hold on a minute. Is there such a thing as acceptable use of cocaine while performing legal services? What threshold did he cross to become abuse?
Never in the nose, that's how you get addicted.

It wouldn't be considered acceptable, but a state bar doesnt get involved until it affects a client. lt's not a disciplineable offense if the abuse of any addictive substance or act does not have a negative effect on a client. If a lawyer can party on weekends but win court cases all work-week long, then a state bar system likely won't discipline.
So, the line is when the lawyer starts fucking up to the point that their client gets a bad outcome due to the abuse. In this case, the attorney was missing deadlines for responding to the USPTO to get his client trademarks.
That's pretty interesting. I was very much joking, but I appreciate the real response.
Today I learned you can do lines, as long as you don't cross the line.
Words to live by!
Wait, is Spurs Up a reference to cock fighting? Classy.
I remember thinking I was a genius trying to get the trademark for Fuenteball. Not my brightest moment.
You could make circular images of it designed to fit on dart boards so people can throw darts at it.
Sort of like his running back recruiting strategy
Some friends of mine were thinking about taking a run at copyrighting "BudFu" back in 2016 since we had just joined our great defensive mind with the "quarterback whisperer"...and everything looked great until Evans left.
Hmmm, got me thinking if this was 20 years ago, uva would need to Groh ball
I mean, they still need to but it would have been fitting then with Al at the helm
cock blocked
Through the years of visiting my mom down in N. Myrtle Beach, I saw several pretty funny bumperstickers like "Our Cocks are Up and Coming" or "You Can't Beat Our Cocks!" Gotta admit, I got a good chuckle.
I remember a guy in high school had a South Carolina vs Southern California t-shirt that said "Your Trojans can't cover our Cocks".
