It's a question that we ask every year before the season begins. Now, I know that we're two weeks in and this post probably should have been pre-season, but better late than never right? We all know we have an empty trophy case. We all know what that case's purpose is. The only question is how bad do we as fans, our coaches, and our players want that success?
Came across this video on one of my friend's Facebook pages. It isn't necessarily a football video or anything, but it does talk about how success is earned and how bad you want success is a factor in whether or not you achieve it.
It's a good watch. So here it is.

Great Questions
Everyone defines success differently, and I think the team can achieve different levels of success each season. Without argument, the ultimate goal of the program is to win the national championship, and even though we haven't won it, yet, I still think we've been successful.
Each season is different, and needs to be evaluated individually, but on the whole since we moved to the ACC, if Tech doesn't beat UVa and at least play for the ACC Championship, it's not a successful season. The ten-wins-a-season streak is nice, but winning the conference championship is more important. There's no politicking involved, be the best team in the division, and play for a league title (unless you're UNC).
To answer your original question, I want a MNC badly, but honestly, not as bad as I used to. Clean hands rarely hoist the crystal, and I truly believe Tech does it the right way. I'm proud of that, and don't want it to change.
I agree that success is measured by how you define it and I think 10+ wins every season is being extremely successful, but I would love to be able to see us take the next step and reach that pinnacle of success and grab that crystal football.
Until then, I die a little inside every time they show that empty case on TV.
I would take a MNC over $1M (straight cash homie)
No question. I really want that damn thing!
I wants it bad
that being said, i think the fans who believe every year is mnc or bust are just setting themselves up for disapointment. the cards are stacked against us, the resources available to the "traditional" powers are staggering compared to what weaver and frank are working with, and that's to vt's credit when you consider the sustained success we've had. we've come a long, long way but we still have a ways to go.
btw, they need to take that damn trophy case the hell out of the merriman center!
They definitely do. It's not really motivating anymore. It's just depressing.
Disagree
If we get rid of the trophy case, it will be viewed as an admission that we are not capable of winning the MNC. As a fan, I like that our ultimate goal is on display like that, and I feel like it has to have some impact on recruits.
is that...
giovanni ruffin from ECU?
Not sure.
Giavanni Ruffin
That's definitely him. This video didn't work though because I think he's a Free Agent
