With all this defensive coordinator hand-wringing... why NO Culture Coach checks❓

'cause Pry's pet cheerleader1 Culture was jus' MOST unserendipitously downvoted by the only votes that count. HIS... ballers'.

As in... his very own -had, past tense- stuck to his L'ing ways gangSTARS, just g-checked his beyotch azz right into the icy plexiglass. booooom... outta here they nearly all Portaling went... (again, whereas they had stuck to him like glue for two negative seasons)... Which was impressive-- until it was, not.

Now... with his coaching contractual season life on the line... he must by needs restart his .432 Culture.
Therefore, his year no.4 Culture is set to go back to the future to year #1.

What up KeyPlay?
Talk to me geese...

This has to win NOW, critical Culturalizing vacancy is code for... what(s)?

(That... and who is culturalizing and/or training us for 1-score '25, what(s)???)

My brain hurts

Dude, you're not supposed to mix cocaine, LSD, alcohol, AND tide pods.

He's saying with all the focus being on DC, why aren't we also focusing on the head of Strength and Conditioning?

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

bravo...

And this at... and during... a Termination at Will contract season... with a slew of Talents fully downvoting said little engine that could (not)... Culture. They did this. Not me. Not you. Not we.
They...

Does that seem of any importance to anyone other than, me?

No. I think he's saying the Bloods and the Crips are now playing hockey instead of having street wars...

After re-reading it a bit, ... yeah, I could see how you came to that conclusion.

I am certainly in a nadir of interest in football outside of VT, yet even when I was totally invested in the sport as a whole 10 years ago, I couldn't have told you who the big names were among S&C coaches. DCs at least get some screentime/shout-outs during game broadcasts.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Well... most prolly knew... Doc', right?

Did an epic job of parroting all things Cornhusker for our very own Ag.School.
He may not have been the S&C 1st-mover; tho' he was an A+++ second-mover.

(And his training manual was a gem... "We will weed you out if we can." was writ on the bottom of every handful of pages... over and over and threat or coercive power over...) LOL. Macho. Predictable. Tho' he damn well got results. And where Eye come from... that counts.

Then pear-shaped hilgirth and all his dippy Hulk Hogan trapezius flexing insanity... his before/after pics. Joke.

Then Galt IV. Who, at least truly did SUFFER this Terminal Contact sport and brought himself workebee uphill both ways (@Maryland) on about 1.5 good De1 knees. So, he had made his bones.

And yet-- look what just 1-play (1 up vs. 12 down) has Culturally happened.

Now=???

I do know know... tho' I do know that now is not the time to have to reboot-- much less to have zero boot.

There are very few S&C coaches that I know, I don't know the guys name at Ok St, but he makes over a million a year, and that's my knowledge of current S&C coaches.

Honestly I think this is the hardest position to hire. they have to be top notch people people because they are with the players so much that they Set the culture and S&C has exploded in new developments in the last 20 years that is hard to keep up with. So finding some one knowledgeable is tough because it's hard to fair because it's hard to follow if it's not your field.

Ive said this before, but this is where VT can still compete if they want to. But it cost money. Just like our helmet testing, we need academic side help to improve our ability to syay in the bleeding edge. I don't think the athletic department as a whole is prepared to have the staff to support S&C like we should be doing

But is it a "we" as in The Key Play people discussing it, or suggesting that Pry isn't focused on it?

As mentioned, I assume it's because none of us know any names. Plus, there may be more room for bringing someone in from outside football teams that we never would have heard of.

Man I've been TKP-ing way too hard lately because that all actually made sense to me

I haven't and I need a translator. I feel like these need to be accompanied by this obligatory gif

Translation (I think):

Pry has set himself up as being a "culture" coach but it might not be landing with the rest of the team since some of our key guys entered the portal anyways, and in the meantime the Strength & Conditioning coach spot (one of a team's most important culture guys because he gets to spend so much more time with the players than the other coaches do) has been sitting empty for over a month.

I think it's one of those "all things being equal, a great culture can help with recruitment/retention," but that doesn't account for monied programs being able to drop bags of cash on guys. In other words, the culture could be fine, but the money talks.

Yeah I agree. I know if a company reached out to me and said "hey we'll pay you 2x or 3x to do the same job here" I'd definitely interview with them lol

Snooze. Putting way too much stock in portal outgoings as a referendum on team culture and tying it directly to Galt getting let go

Maybe a tin-foil-hat opinion, but I'm not sure I buy that S&C was the issue. I think it's an easy story that takes the blame away from Pry's clock management and moves it elsewhere.

Would love to be proven wrong about this.

It was an issue, was it the only issue, no

Thing is you don't fire a HC for clock management issues but you do a S&C coach when your team is gassed in the 3rd quarter, linebackers and receivers are weak and can't shed blocks and OL get pushed around like shopping carts...

Definitely is/was an issue, but I agree was not THE issue. You're not 1-13 or whatever it is now in one score games due to conditioning. That's game management.

Hard disagree. If you were ever near the sidelines in the mid 2000s and then back the last couple years- the team is small and skinny by comparison. Much smaller, much skinnier.

The pads are much smaller than what they used to be which makes an enormous difference. But still comparatively to other teams, we look very undersized.

Pads have nothing to do with it. Legs, thickness of upper bodies, etc - noticeably different. I saw Boise up close in the fiesta bowl- they are bigger than we are.

I agree it definitely is an issue and has been for years now with our S&C. But it's a global issue, I think Pry's poor game management is more to blame for all the losses in one-score games. But if we ever want to compete for a playoff berth, we definitely need to get a whole lot bigger and stronger.

There is plenty of blame to go around. Pry deserves a ton of it for bungling timeouts, allowing 18 duplicate numbers and not being sharp enough to monitor it, etc. Talent is a huge issue as well- we aren't nearly as talented as back then either.

Those one score games are so close that a number of things could have turned the tides, better game management, but also it could have been 1 first down that we didnt get because we were gassed and caught from behind. Better talent hides flaws, getting guys and improving their talent will hide some of the game managment issues. Glennon couldn't get an game icing first dow to save his life, but Bud bailed us out a number of times. Tyrod could get that first down. Talent makes up for a lot.

It's ok. Quite a few tkpers have become fluent in bourbonstreet for us.

...I wonder if they offer it on Duolingo 🤔

He has a point. Where is the S&C Hire?
