Looks like we'll have 2 ginger freaks on the team next year.

GIN-EDGES

I wonder if he can drive 55

This may be one of my favorite posts:
succinct, dry, unexpected and injects levity.

Well done and thank you for the mirth.

Just because he's a ginger doesn't make him a freak

I personally preferred Mary Ann, but Ginger is welcome too.

100% agree with this take.

HOKIEEEES!

Wow, this is the best Pry and Whit could pull to be our new DC after a MONTH of searching...? We're doomed.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I think I got it we're offering these transfers a portion of defensive play calling like it company equity.

(add if applicable) /s

everyone on the bench gets to pick a play per game and just take turns

Danny is always open

It's weighted by PFF grade. Higher the grade the more influence on the defensive calls.

Could it be that much worse than last year? Maybe we'd get at least some variety instead of the same blitz over and over.

Every second counts

At least it won't be as predictable.

The one time where "too many cooks" might actually add some productive chaos

Literally going after PFF grades in a moneyball-like strategy this portal season. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. I'm interested in seeing how many of these lower-level high-PFF players pan out.

Trying to find out if the FCS All-Star team can compete in the ACC.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Honestly, they probably could.

Well coached that strategy could really end up as like the 2nd or 3rd best team with the amount of inconsistency and chaos that is standard in the ACC. Not sure it's a great long term strategy because I've yet to see that were well coached but not a terrible bridge for an "oh shit" year

It can even get you into a 12 team playoff (IU)

Every second counts

I was going to make this point as well. Indiana ran this strategy but had the additional benefit of Cignetti having run his own minor league developmental program at JMU. Barring that scenario, if you have good lower level scouting, this is really the ONLY strategy that can work for "mid major" teams going forward. Attract and develop lower level talent every year.

Not that this at all diminishes your very good point, but Texas State is actually FBS. They've done fairly well lately, winning a bowl game the last two seasons.

Fun fact: Texas State has about 5,000 more undergraduates than Virginia Tech.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

Q: Coach, why go after a player like this?

Pry: He gets on base.

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

This kid from Texas State has a similar "PFF" grade as Abdul Carter- according to a graphic I saw on twitter. So either we are getting a top 15 NFL draft pick here, or that ranking methodology is shit.

or you are misapplying it

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

No- they are misapplying talent and actual results with their bogus ranking- thats super secret because its simply a subscription/money grift.

what do you think PFF is grading or claiming to measure?

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

It's a secret metric... because they grift for money- nothing more. If it wasn't pay per view perhaps we could discuss how inaccurate it is at "ranking" transfer classes.

if i understand correctly, you are saying PFF is ranking transfer classes with some voodoo PPV metric?

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

It's not secretive. The metric is described on Wikipedia:

PFF grades every NFL player on every play on a scale of -2 to +2 using half-point increments.[1] The grades are based on context and performance. A four-yard run that gains a first down after two broken tackles will receive a better grade than a four-yard run on third down and 5 yards left to go, where the ball carrier does nothing more than expected. A quarterback who makes a good pass that a receiver tips into the arms of a defender will not negatively affect the quarterback's grade on that play, despite the overall negative result for the team.[1]

The evaluations are then extrapolated onto a 0–100 ratings scale that is sorted by position and free for anyone to view. These grades appear in many areas of NFL media, including NBC Sunday Night Football player introductions.

Furthermore, grades are separated by play type. Beyond just an overall grade, an offensive lineman receives one grade for pass-blocking and one for run-blocking.[8] The average grade for every position and play type is meant to be a 60, with raw grades being normalized.[1]

It's on their own website too. They don't say anything about transfer class rankings. It's literally just a film grade.

Regardless of ranking, I am happy we are getting another defensive player who wants to be a HOKIE.

That defensive end room suddenly has a lot of ginger. I guess I need some bourbon to celebrate? (But without mixing it with ginger ale. What a waste of good bourbon)

But a decent way to salvage bad bourbon, though.

Gosling's is my favorite ginger beer because it is the strongest and spiciest I can find. Does anybody know of a spicier one than Gosling's?

Yeah man, get yourself some Goya ginger beer. Usually found in the international aisle. If you're in the southeast, you may be able to find Blenheims which is also spicy.

I can get it down the road in Huntersville. I'll have to go search for some soon.

On3 has him ranked as a 4* star, 247 has him as...an 86. The 247 SEC / B1G bias is absurd lol.

So does this mean we are out of the running for the other end? The one who grew up in VA? Cant remember his name.

I hate rude behavior in a man. Won't tolerate it.

one click shows Wagoneer's been around TKP for 7 years. Sheesh. Everyone take a nap, have a snickers or something.

Have seen a slew of X comments saying they have not been able to get him academically qualified at Tech but they have at WVU. May just come down to that unfortunately.

Can we get Manumana the Slender on the OL now?

Underrated movie, underrated comment.

Would rather have him at DT than Sinbad.

He has a better sack celebration anyway.

If you play it, they will win.

I still have much to learn. I had no idea that there was a position called Sinbad.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

It is a position where you PAAAAAHHHHHR-TAAAAAAY in between being a graduate student TA with one year of remaining eligibility.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:

After watching Letterkenny, I can't watch Rudolph the same way. Whatcha doing with that ostrich there, cowboy? Get lonely out on the range much?

Here is some film footage of Bell. He is number 33. He played a "jack linebacker" type of role at Texas State. Standing up, on the line of scrimmage, and got moved inside and outside on the line of scrimmage. He is a pretty one dimensional guy, great get off and he is coming up the field. Like APR, I don't expect him to be terrific against the run so having those defensive tackles causing a lot of trouble inside will help his effectiveness. As a pass rusher, he is tremendous, especially when they moved him around to get good matchups. He has really violent hands and great get off. For whatever good or bad we say about Pry, he does max damage with undersized violant twitch edge players (taking an undersized Arnold Ebiketie from Temple and making him a second round NFL pick who is getting a half dozen sacks a year as a part timer in the NFL, APR, etc). I expect good things. Now they have four "twitch guys" in Bell, Nash, Copeland, and Laws. Where is the big anchor (Gilliam, Burgos) to be responsible so those guys can hunt?

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

He is sort of like the Popeye pad OLB that East Carolina always used at the end of the Beamer era. Stands up, but in reality he is a DE more than a LB
