I think I got it we're offering these transfers a portion of defensive play calling like it company equity.

It's weighted by PFF grade. Higher the grade the more influence on the defensive calls.

Literally going after PFF grades in a moneyball-like strategy this portal season. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. I'm interested in seeing how many of these lower-level high-PFF players pan out.
Trying to find out if the FCS All-Star team can compete in the ACC.

Well coached that strategy could really end up as like the 2nd or 3rd best team with the amount of inconsistency and chaos that is standard in the ACC. Not sure it's a great long term strategy because I've yet to see that were well coached but not a terrible bridge for an "oh shit" year

I was going to make this point as well. Indiana ran this strategy but had the additional benefit of Cignetti having run his own minor league developmental program at JMU. Barring that scenario, if you have good lower level scouting, this is really the ONLY strategy that can work for "mid major" teams going forward. Attract and develop lower level talent every year.
Not that this at all diminishes your very good point, but Texas State is actually FBS. They've done fairly well lately, winning a bowl game the last two seasons.
Fun fact: Texas State has about 5,000 more undergraduates than Virginia Tech.

This kid from Texas State has a similar "PFF" grade as Abdul Carter- according to a graphic I saw on twitter. So either we are getting a top 15 NFL draft pick here, or that ranking methodology is shit.

It's a secret metric... because they grift for money- nothing more. If it wasn't pay per view perhaps we could discuss how inaccurate it is at "ranking" transfer classes.

Yeah man, get yourself some Goya ginger beer. Usually found in the international aisle. If you're in the southeast, you may be able to find Blenheims which is also spicy.

Here is some film footage of Bell. He is number 33. He played a "jack linebacker" type of role at Texas State. Standing up, on the line of scrimmage, and got moved inside and outside on the line of scrimmage. He is a pretty one dimensional guy, great get off and he is coming up the field. Like APR, I don't expect him to be terrific against the run so having those defensive tackles causing a lot of trouble inside will help his effectiveness. As a pass rusher, he is tremendous, especially when they moved him around to get good matchups. He has really violent hands and great get off. For whatever good or bad we say about Pry, he does max damage with undersized violant twitch edge players (taking an undersized Arnold Ebiketie from Temple and making him a second round NFL pick who is getting a half dozen sacks a year as a part timer in the NFL, APR, etc). I expect good things. Now they have four "twitch guys" in Bell, Nash, Copeland, and Laws. Where is the big anchor (Gilliam, Burgos) to be responsible so those guys can hunt?
He is sort of like the Popeye pad OLB that East Carolina always used at the end of the Beamer era. Stands up, but in reality he is a DE more than a LB
