OT: Rest in Peace, John Feinstein

Like him or not (and a lot of people liked him, and a lot of people disliked him, too), he was an outstanding, and prolific, sportswriter. I've read a few of his books, including Play Ball (an in-depth look at the 1992 MLB season), but I think I'm going to download A Season on the Brink, his first book, behind the scenes at Indiana and Bob Knight in the 1985-6 season.

He dedicated a significant amount of time writing about the ACC throughout his career. Here ishis last column in the WaPo about the ACC (gift link): The ACC forgot it was a basketball conference.

RIP, John.

This one made me sad. I always enjoyed his interviews on sports radio.

Where Nobody Knows Your Name about life in baseball's minor leagues sounds like it could be an interesting read.

I was thinking about picking that one up next.

Let me know if you think it is worth it. I still have several books my wife got me for my birthday and Christmas to go though.

One I'm almost done with now is The Way of the Hermit about this guy who lives out in the wilds of Northern Scotland (after having spent time in the Yukon and Alaska before that).

The prior one has been my favorite of the ones she got me, Throne of Grace about the life of the old mountain man Jedediah Smith.

It might be a while. I'm only about 30% through "The British are Coming".

Thank you. Finished The Way of the Hermit last night. Next on the list is The Demon of Unrest about the time between Lincoln's election and the bombardment of Fort Sumter.

Oh yeah, so am I. Atkinson is so good at building the story to make history about the people.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Just read this piece - this dude might be DCWilson's spirit animal.

I'm not familiar with his work, but seeing the outpour of support has been good.

Been reading Feinstein's books since I was a kid. A Civil War, about the Army-Navy game, is one of my favorite football books period. An outstanding writer who did a great job humanizing the athletes he covered and fleshing them out into three-dimensional people through his words.

He will be missed. Very sad to hear of this yesterday.

MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

One hell of a writer and very opinionated, which I liked. He was great on the radio. The Junkies did a great job discussing his career.

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Feinstein was always an enjoyable read, and he wrote about stuff I could relate to.

I'll miss his articles. He was one of the good ones.

I enjoyed his books. It's sad that he lost his mind around 2016 (hmmm) and called Augusta National a Klan rally among other things. He used to love the cathedrals of golf and scolded Tiger every chance he got for not making appearances, etc. Then around 2016- weird- he began spewing really stupid shit about the game. May he RIP. He was a great author until that time period.

Augusta National a Klan rally

LOL this is funny as hell.

I didn't like him, but he was an extremely talented writer and wrote good books. Definitely gone too soon.
