Now we just need some portal LBs while these young LBs mature. Maybe a couple of seasoned LBs from VA that currently play for PSU? ;^)
Amare Campbell already announced he's going to the portal. Tony Rojas has apparently taken all mentions of PSU off his social media profiles.
Rojas stripped his Twitter a week or so ago and he looks like he's getting kind of frustrated at how long this is dragging out
...when the portal opens, that is.
Pulling Rojas would be INCREDIBLE. Major upgrade and instantly.
After the last couple seasons, I'm desperate to see some good linebacker play again.
Rojas is an NFL level talent. If he has healed properly from his injury he would be a difference maker day 1.

It is insane the way recruits are flocking to us. I underestimated how successful Franklin would be getting high-level talent to come to VT. Let's hope he and his staff can develop them. Got them in the boat, but have to get them across the ocean next. Looking forward to the future.
Interesting that Wiggins said he would have had VT higher all along if he had taken an earlier visit. So while he followed Franklin, VT itself made an impression. Bodes well for future recruiting.
Considering that State College is a tiny college town in the middle of a very rural area of the Appalachian mountains (sound familiar) that has way worse weather than anyplace in Virginia, I don't find it surprising that Franklin is having remarkable success recruiting athletes to VT. I am really looking forward to seeing Franklin and his staff working the DMV, PA, NJ, and the Carolinas for recruits with the success rate that they historically had at PSU.
Right. Anybody that has committed to Penn State would already be not put off by the remoteness of VT.
I underestimated Franklin too. I think a lot of our doubts come from the repeated accusation that Blacksburg and the VT brand had an inherent recruiting ceiling that no coach could break through. It is now clear that the right brand of coach will get the recruits to come.
I also think that Pry laid down the groundwork in re-establishing the VT brand as the premier Mid-Atlantic brand. But he could not outcompete (and to a certain degree would not challenge) the best Mid-Atlantic recruiter in James Franklin.
I don't know what the recruiting ceiling is for a JF-led Hokies, but I think it is just as high as Clemson/FSU/Miami now.
Ambitious goals I think we can see soon: For 2027, I want to see VT sign a top 100 recruit, a top 3 VA recruit, and 8+ OL/DL again. By 2028, I hope to see a 5-star recruit sign.
It would also be nice to see it translate onto the field into top 4 ACC finish as soon as the 2027 season, bona fide at-large playoff contender by 2028.
Hopefully after Buzz Williams, and now JMFF, we can all internalize that this line of thinking isn't right.
I think VT has a recruiting ceiling below a lot of schools, but i don't think we've seen that ceiling.
We only have what five 5* recruits all time? We have zero in this class. Miami has an average recruit ranking inline with our top recruit. I think we have a way to go to reach the next echelon of recruiting. Clemson is has been down in recruiting the last two years, but we've seen them have top 5 classes. We have a long way to go to see if we can raise our level by winning big and making VT a football destination for 5* recruits. Until we do that i don't think we can recruit like Clemson/FSU/Miami when they are doing well.
But how many of those great recruiting classes for Clemson and Miami is from when they were illegally paying players. Now everybody can pay them legally.
Miami is doing it this year. Clemson i think that they dont have the coaching talent they had to get the players, I think if they still had the coaches they'd find the money based on how much donations they get a year.
I don't know if we could realistically challenge Miami as Mario Cristobal is maybe the best recruiter in the country and he works his staff to death on the recruiting trail, and Florida has an insane amount of talent but we could absolutely be in that next range of Clemson and FSU.
