TKP Community Interview Series: DuWayne Johnson

DuWayne has agreed to participate in the community interview series. You should know how this works by now, but if not, you leave questions you'd like DuWayne to answer and the ones with the most upvotes will get passed along to him. I know the LOLUVA questions and jabs are funny to us, but they aren't as relatable to a 16- or 17-year-old high school kid. Cake or pie will be included automatically going forward. I hope we can come up with at least 10 solid questions for DuWayne.

If you need more info on DuWayne, I spoke with him back in March: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2014/march/14/catching-2015-commitment....

Love it.

For DuWayne: Your Hudl film shows you can line up at either boundary or field corner positions, though the tape seems to show you close to the line on the boundary side a bit more often. Do you feel more comfortable in one alignment or another, and have Tech's coaches discussed how your skills fit in the secondary scheme?

"Exit light..."

Do you mind if we call you The Rock?

How about The Rock 2.0 since he played football at Miami?

Our motto bringing spirit true, that we may ever serve you

Oh come on, is anything more enjoyable than pissing off Miami fans? (And before you say pissing off UVa fans, the school actually has to have fans before its enjoyable to piss them off)

And secondly... He's coming here to be a DB. He'll probably actually make a name for himself in this sport instead of having to bolt to entertainment rasslin for people to know his name.

although I don't disagree with you..LOLUVA's spring game does in fact rival the attendance of a typical Miami home game...just sayin'

Onward and upward

If Miami had an on-campus stadium, they'd pack in 40k easy every week.

Not saying thats an impressive stat, but it would be similar to us having to play our football games in Roanoke or Salem.

yup

From DeAngelo Hall to Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech has been home to many outstanding defensive backs in recent memory. Is there a current or former DBU player who's tape stands out to you or that you'd like to pattern your own style of play after? And which aspects of their game stand out to you in particular?

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Didn't want to make a separate thread for this, and since you mentioned DeAngelo Hall, I'll post it here. Pretty cool to see Hokies in the pros reaching out to guys that aren't even on campus yet. I remember DuWayne got a twitter shout out from Kam a while back too.

VT '15

I'll add this one too. DBU's future is bright folks....Not that we didn't know that already ;)

With Kendall Fuller and Brandon Fayscon, Virginia Tech coaches have shown that true freshman may very well come in and win starting time in the secondary immediately. Is this something you can see yourself doing?

What ultimately made you want to be a Hokie (relationship with recruiter, chance to play, etc)?

What do you feel is the most important method in your training that helps prevent injuries (knocking on wood)

Is there a certain number you want to wear with the Hokies? If so, is there any reason/special significance with it?

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

#15 - the number of wins we get each year.

(I think I did my math correctly)

*14 (12 + conf champ & natl champ)

we're in the playoff era now.

Wouldn't it be 12 + Conference Championship + Semi-Final + National Championship?

What is the most outrageous thing a coach has said or done while recruiting you?

I think you meant "YOU!"

Thoughts on playing for coach Grey? What have you heard about playing for him, and what does he bring as a db coach that made you want to play under his instruction?

UVA: Jefferson's biggest mistake

@pbowman6

Similar to a previous question, is there an NFL DB you model your game after?

Which facet of your game (ex. athleticism, tackling, coverage, etc.) do you feel you are best at? And conversely, what skill are you most looking forward to improving upon during your time at VT?

1. You're offer list is impressive, including the likes of Auburn, UGA, Clemons, USC, and Michigan. Are you surprised you're still considered a 3-star recruit? (I am)

2. Have any of the other schools on your offer list negatively recruited or badmouthed VT? Without getting into specific schools, what are these schools saying about VT? How does that affect your feeling toward VT?

What are you doing over the summer in terms of weight training?

Also you're blessed with the opportunity to have to put on a significant amount of weight at the #1 school in the country for food...have you had a chance to check out the dining halls at Tech? What's your favorite meal on-campus?

I like how you added "in terms of weight training" ;)

Haha I'm not sure what you're trying to insinuate but this is probably appropriate:

ytup

Gonna go on the coach grey thing here...what made him stand out? Was it the potential for playing time/NFL caliber coach? Also did any of the players get in touch and help with the recruiting process?

Ohohohohoh one more, how many picks against lolUVA do you expect to end your career with? I'm going over/under 15

Is there any advice you would give to other recruits to help them in their decision?
Conversely, did you receive any advice that made the process easier for you?

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.
