10 things to look forward to in 2014 college football season

Ivan Maisel wrote the following about the Hokies.

1. Virginia Tech wins 10 games

First, Frank Beamer, who leads all active FBS coaches with 266 career victories, turns 68 in October. With three very good seasons, Beamer could reach 300 wins at age 70 and get out and go to his vacation home at Lake Oconee in eastern Georgia and play golf with all the other coaches who have homes there while he can still turn on the ball. Second, given the money that head coaches make and the pressure they are under to succeed, I am skeptical that any coach from this generation will stay on the sideline long enough to win 300 games. Beamer may be the last candidate to join the club.

That would have to be 3 VERY good seasons - 34 wins in 3 years.
Looking forward to it.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

This would represent the best 3 year window in VT history; so yeah, let's shoot for it, but be a bit more reasonable. Beamer might reach 300, but he will be coaching into his 70s to do it. I for one would be fine if he did.

And something tells me Frank will be just fine golfing at 70+.

I think he would also be just fine bowling ;)

I'd love for it to happen but I don't see it happening for Beamer to get to 300 before his current contract ends after the 2016 season. There is one milestone that would be tough but more realistic; if VT gets 26 wins over the next 3 seasons Beamer would have 250 Virginia Tech wins in his coaching career.

I was about to say WHOA you are severely overestimating the number of fans at their spring game! Luckily RocketHokie got in there for the save

Frank Beamer should have and could have had these numbers or been a lot closer to 300 If he had gotten his staff cleared out five or six years ago. I don't see him staying past 2016 , no matter where the numbers fall. I'm Beamer fan but Frank let his own self down.

I hope London stays as LOLUVA coach for the next decade so the losing streaks continue.

Allen Ox

I don't think we can rule out that his successor could be a worse coach, and that'd be entertaining.

Worse coach? It would be tough to do. Worse recruiter most likely but a worse on the field coach will be a rarity.
