Eric Whitehead and Adonis Williamson are there together.

In addition, the almighty Sweat will be there. We better pull out all the stops for him.

Josh Sweat is visiting today per 247

I've checked in a few times just on the wild hope to see
"Sweat picks Bud Foster and the Hokies!"
and be like:

Bristol 2016 in front of the largest football crowd ever and an international TV audience....
Just sayin.'

And,
Eric's head is in perfect position to make the 'I' in Hokies.
Already contributing....

Sweat looks like he puts the "I" in "I'm gonna mess you up."

Reading things like this gets me all sorts of fired up.

By all accounts, Sweat is having a great time. Glad to see Whitehead selling his new school too. CZYHokie from 247's VTScoop page recently said that Beamer and a bunch of the assistants who were on vacation (their last of the year) cancelled/left early to get back in town to see the guys who came up for last-minute visits. Awesome stuff. Any 247 VIP subscribers who want to follow Sweat and the other visitors can do so on the 247 site

Have heard Mook came up to help recruit sweat.

Must of been a change of plans because he was definitely in Blacksburg yesterday.

Very good news

For those questioning Mook's commitment this should speak rather loudly. El Gato has found his home.

Sure would be nice to hear a commitment or two shortly, sure has my hopes up!

Whit met with Josh Sweat and family.

Umm....wow!
Go Whit.
And don't cha think that Mr Kevin Jones was getting some time with Mr Sweat: "As a former #1 recruit in the nation myself..."

I thought since he wasnt a coach KJ couldnt interact with recruits? Or maybe that doesnt apply when they are on campus since they met with Whit?

Not sure if that's a rule. I'm sure recruits are expected to meet administrators and professors of the school so they can ask more questions and make an informed decision on where they want to go.

I'm thinking it's alright because he's in the athletic department. Though when it comes to the NCAA who really knows.

I think you're probably right on this. If Whit can meet with recruits without issue, I don't see why his assistants wouldn't be able to do so as well.

In fact, knowing he can meet with recruits on campus and essentially act like yet another recruiter is pretty freakin awesome. Its showing that we're now willing to blur the lines that need to be blurred to make ourselves competitive in a national sense.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

There's no blurring of the lines here. KJ was hired partially to help recruit football players (I'd say that's all of 5% of his job, but still). He can't go visit prospects, but he can talk to whoever the heck he wants to talk to while on campus.

It completely is blurring lines. You're only allowed to have x number of coaches on staff who can recruit a kid, even when they're on campus, but there aren't the same restrictions to the Athletic Director or his staff, as long as the kid is on campus.

We're essentially getting ourselves more recruiters than we're allowed, by hiring guys who recruit in other areas within our Athletic Dept. Its a pretty brilliant move from our Athletic Dept and just further shows that Whit completely gets it.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I also don't see how this is blurring any lines. Coaches can go off campus. If a student (and this applies to ANY student, athlete or not) visits a college, he or she is entitled to set up mutually agreed-upon meetings with any faculty or staff that can inform them about the school. That's nothing that Whit is doing particularly, though I will give him a ton of credit for hiring the right people for the right positions. Coach Cav did this for several years prior; it's nothing new.

"Exit light..."

Whether or not we are "blurring the lines" here is really "splitting hairs". In the end, both sides are just "arguing to a brick wall".

We should all be "on the same team." Let's face it: When the "fat cats" at other universities "throw everything but the kitchen sink" at big-time recruits, we have to keep "cool as a cucumber", "toot our own horns" as best we legally can, and hope someone at the other institutions up and "spill the beans".

Bag-men like petebuddywilson "burn the candle at both ends" in order to "put our best foot forward" while "walking the tightrope" between what is legal, and what is strictly "beyond the pale"; a task that requires one to occasionally "read between the lines".

"In a nutshell": "Keep your eyes on the prize", "don't open a can of worms", "don't bite off more than you can chew", don't engage in "monkey business" that could "burn our fingers", remember that "honesty is the best policy" and in the end, our reputation and our "winning personality" will "carry the day".

"If I had a dollar for every time" an internet debate was held over the semantics of an idiom, "I'd..."

By using the rules to your advantage and not breaking them, I don't see how that is blurring any lines. The lines are pretty set and we are following them. KJ isn't a coach of any sorts and he isn't contacting any kids. He may talk to some when they are on visits to the school about the athletic department. That is a valid job. Whit was smart and hired a key figure to do that job but it could have been someone no one has ever heard of doing the same thing and there would be no lines crossed or close to being crossed IMO.

Protip: DO NOT Google "Blurred Lines Gif" on your work computer...looks like I will be hearing from HR later today...

I believe that it's just that he can't go to their houses or call them. But when they are on campus whose to say who a potential student can't see on staff??

We'll know to get excited if we hear Buzz met with him.

I was too nervous to meet with him in person, but I left a grocery sack with coupons, orange and maroon Mardi-Gras beads, a $5 Sharkey's gift card, and some fruit roll ups on the hood of his parents' car. At least, I think it was their car; it had VA plates.

A face-to-face meeting with the AD is also a nice touch.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

I'd think this would be a real difference maker and was hoping something along these lines would happen.

Very encouraging. Not sure but did all this go on with Hand last year, or did we take it easy because "we were already front-runners?" I followed Hand's recruitment pretty closely up until he cut us and I never remember hearing stuff about us "going all out" and having coaches fly back from vacations and all this hooplah.

yeah, I remember the same. Though you'll probably hear it every year. just something that must be done in recruiting.

I'm guessing when you reach a certain status, that coaches 'go-all-out', it may work, it may not, but you want to reel in the big fish you better be doing everything short of how Rick Fox recruited Jesus Shuttlesworth in He Got Game.

Sweat is number 1 in the country in the new ESPN 300.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Here is a spam Josh Sweat twitter account. Feel free to report it- https://twitter.com/J_SmoothSweat

Edit- I know there was a thread on this about a year ago... but it's still floating around and getting RTs

This is also a fun little tidbit. Alleyne is a 3* safety prospect from Ocean Lakes HS in the 757.

I'm getting Sweaty from all this talk.

I actually laughed out loud at work watching Josh sweat punt in his highlights

38-0

Like when Ben Taylor came in to punt against Miami I believe in 2000 or 2001. The entire stadium erupted when it was announced he was coming in to punt....mainly because the last few punts gave miami great field position.

There was a player from Benedictine in the early 2000s named Patrick Estes. He was a TE at 6'6" 250lbs and was their punter. He could boot the hell out of it. He then went to UVA and player behind Heath Miller and became an OT in the NFL for a while.

So Evan Watkins just released his Josh Sweat visit report on 247. It's a VIP page, so I won't give a whole lot away, but let's just say that it did not suck.

no it did not techhokie13

Hey, give it up! What did they say? :-)

I'm with you on this one. I just imagined it said something along the lines of:
And then after breaking the treadmill that was built for horses and out bench pressing Sam Rogers, Josh Sweat added"There is only one place you can go to school to beat Bruce Smith's Sack Record."

I bet when Sweat visited VT mentioned the food 600,000,000 times

El Gato lurks.....

Come on now!!!! Let's have a tidbit!

And, BTW, Mook showing up this weekend...well...
anyone paying attention (and there will be plenty when all is said and done) knows how huge that is. His efforts are not going unnoticed.

Sweat and Mook would be quite the headline for another stellar defensive class. Plus, all of our other D commits and Bud, Wiles, Torrian and CB must be salivating.
