Two Recruiting Notes

Winterhaven 2015 OT Mike Arnold has seemingly named Virginia Tech his leader.

Tech needs tackles, so this is good news.

Also, I exchanged messages with Houshun Gaines and he's traveling to VT this weekend for a one-day visit. He's planning on \ hoping to visit Virginia too.

Alex or I hope to publish interviews with these guys as soon as we can.

Coach Searels really needs his first OL . Arnold would be a solid get . Join Hokienation and play in the battle of Bristol.

More than anything, its the potential to develop o line talent and perhaps turn around our long time struggles that has me excited with the newer coaching staff. It started with Grimes last year and let's hope it continues. The offense will have trouble improving significantly without first improving the line, I think

The fact that we are recruiting O line to be O line is a big improvement over the past 6 years.

I think recruits are starting to take notice on the Sweat recruitment we're in the middle of. If we land him, it very well could mean we get more than a few other top players to join.

I think we'll be among his finalists, and I don't think he's set on any school. That's about as good as you can ask for.

Also, on the crystal ball, you need to consider the source. Reddit CFB is a poll of Redditors (http://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/1zg64m/we_now_have_a_peoples_vote_o...). That's cool and all, but it should be taken with a grain of salt. The crystal ball is nothing more than a marketing tool, and a very ingenious one at that.

I have said frequently that the Hokies have to get at least two of the following kids to go with Trevon Hill and Damien Dozier to get defensive end depth.

Darrell Taylor
Houshoun Gaines
Marques Ford

Well, as good as things look for Sweat and Gaines, Marques Ford is out of the mix. He committed to Tennessee on July 17th.
