How in the hell did he not win the Heisman either year (especially his freshman year)? He was better than anyone in the game...by far!

We put the K in Kwality

You have to remember, no freshman had ever won the Heisman at that time....I think most people in the country thought he should win it, but a bunch of sportswriters and the past winners are the guys who vote.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

At that time it was often a career achievement award. Thus, Ron Dayne got the nod, which was laughable. Joe Hamilton was deserving second-place but Mike should have won. It was remarkable that he finished 3rd, starting from nowhere before the season. In today's era, he would be the winner.

All that everyone said here, but realistically, he didn't have the stats to back it up vs the rest of the competition.

Vick absolutely deserved the Heisman, but nobody was going to give it to a freshman at that time. Too many people were stuck in the old ways of rewarding it based on career accomplishments instead of being the absolute best that season.

Vick STILL has the NCAA record for passer rating of a freshman. He also engineered the largest drubbing of a ranked opponent, a record that stood for something like 12 seasons until it was recently broken.

That move, in the NCG against FSU where he somehow sensed the blindside pressure and spun out of the way was uncanny.

Is there a decent video of that NCG anywhere?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Out of all the great plays he made in that game the throw at 23:10 is one of my favorites. The way Michael throws the football is just awesome.

Edit: Alum07 beat me to it.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

just be sure to obliviate those special teams/in-game decision blunders from your memory after watching the game. we probably win the game without those. ugh.

That scene was so depressing and heartbreaking.

I usually just watch through the third quarter. I pretend the 4th quarter doesn't exist.

pretty sure ashore was talking about the scene in the movie where she cast the spell to remove any memory of her from her parents minds.

oh...well, that too then.

Works pretty well for the 'bama game in '09 too!

Beamer definitely outcoached himself that day.

Leonard. Duh.

There is little doubt in my mind that today's Heisman voters would've awarded him the Trophy.

well for one, Bitter is around now #bitterforpulitzer

He revolutionized the game. He was amazing. Just made defenses look pathetic trying to catch him. His ability to cut and change direction was insane. Loved being there at the same time to see him play. Still pull for him in the NFL. Great post btw.

Michael Vick is the reason I first became a football fan.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

if the jets don't pick him over geno smith, can we please have vick back? please?

Sure, I've seen something like that before. But it was a long time ago.

coach mcguirk is the gif king

Haha...don't know about that. But I am certainly having a hell of a good time here. (#that'swhatit'sallabout)
Seriously, thanks to everyone at TKP. What an awesome place!

You post more GIFs than UVA had fans at their spring game.

That was some David Wilson-like balance at ~1:30.

I still think that if my dad hadn't come in to watch that NC game, we would have won it. The team didn't start playing horribly until my dad came into the room to start watching the game with me and then he kept telling me how much they sucked the entire second half.

chills, that is all.

There was NO other QB like MV7. There NEVER will be.

I saw it in real time. I was a senior in high school at the time...it was marvelous!

"War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.โ€~~Judge Holden

Greatest athlete to ever put on football pads. It's a damn shame he didn't have the work ethic he developed in Philadelphia when he first made it to the league. It's not outlandish or a homer bias to say that he could have been an elite quarterback and likely would have a ring or two. When he is playing at his best, he is one of the only NFL players in history who could look like a man among boys.

Greatest college QB of all time IMO. Yeah Tebow has the better resume but MV7 only had two years. Johnny Football doesn't have crap on Michael Vick. Even the Seminoles couldn't touch him in the NCG.

The Dude Abides

The 1999 season was when I was truly indoctrinated with Tech football, when I started really paying attention and becoming obsessive and player focused. I remember being 7, watching MV7, and thinking "oh yea, this is just normal, right? The best teams just have a guy like this." It's funny looking back at how naive I was at 7.

That year was the very time I became interested in VT football.
MV7 completely hooked me. Can you guys imagine if he had stayed
all 4 yrs?!?!? WOW

@AMB4VT

Michael Vick videos never get old.

In addition to watching MV7 make people look silly, there's some pretty sweet uniform eye-candy in there too. #allmaroonuberalles
