Any word on our uniforms Saturday?

Looks like anOSU will be wearing alternates, http://collegespun.com/big-ten/ohio-state/ohio-state-will-wear-its-alter...
...so does this put us in white? I know there was mention of "uniforms were ordered last year so don't blame me," which makes me worry about the possibility of our own alternate unis since this is such a big game.

As long as they show up and no one in the equipment room tries to steal them (we have our eye on you GT); I think the uniforms will be worn on Saturday.

I'm fine with them stealing our uniforms. The game went pretty well last time that happened. (27-3 beatdown)

Ugh don't do that to me. I just washed my saddle.

Riding bareback just took on a whole new meaning.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

It will probably be White Jersey, Maroon pants, and I'd say Maroon Helmet.

OSU's- Red/scarlet helmet, Red top, scarlet pants... so we would have to put in a dark combo with a white jersey.

Unless we go #ALLMAROON which would be interesting look on tv but doubt it happens.

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

We couldn't do #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING since Ohio State is wearing scarlet. To do color vs. color, the two colors need to have a certain level of distinction.

I bet we end up with what we wore in the Sun Bowl.
http://uniformcritics.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/vt-13-whitesunbowl-1-675x380.jpg

The only changes are maybe a helmet without the stripes and I'd like to see maroon pants.

I'd be OK with that.

If this were the last couple of years, I'd go all in on all white with maroon helmets (no stripes). But, this year, I believe there is a slight chance we'd go with maroon pants. When was the last time we wore our traditional white on maroon away combo?

Man, it is a pain to try to find an accurate full uniform picture of Ohio State's alternates.

VT Equipment Room tweeted a picture earlier today while they were getting travel gear ready and there was a white helmet in the background....so possibly we're going with the all whites.

they then later tweeted back saying no to All White so maybe maroon pants

That seems like a lot of gray. What ever happened to the Bama unis last year?

Hopefully, they got thrown in the trash.

Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.

Don't know but they were by far our best looking unis last year.

Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference, Marines don't have that problem

If you don't care anything about actually wearing our school colors, that is.

The grey uniforms from last year go back to the origins of VPI. It is historically one of our colors and pays homage to the corps. This is the purpose of alternative uniforms, and something the basketball team has done for years.

This is something that VT should utilize more often. I have always liked the spirit of Military Appreciation Day, especially given the rich history of the Corps, but I have never liked the uniforms that they have concocted. The uniforms for the Marshall game last year had to be my least favorite Hokie uniforms of all time. Tie in our history, the original colors, tie in the Corps, and make something uniquely VT, rather than just some camo with school colors like every single other school does.

"Exit light..."

Orange & maroon is uniquely Virginia Tech, and identifies us nationally as Virginia Tech. Copying the trend of wearing gray, or black, or camo, or digitized patterns does nothing except label us as wannabes. Wearing orange & maroon identifies us as proud to be Hokies. Unique in our colors and in our respect for the traditional uniforms.

The gray on the basketball jerseys looks good. The gray the football team wore last year was gross. There's really no other way to describe that shade of gray they used.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

My wife tells me there are 50 shades of grey.
Pick a different shade.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

They were our colors a century ago, but not since. Black & gray used to be our colors, but are not now. A patch paying homage to the Corps is fine, or a helmet sticker. A uniform that doesn't even use our school colors hardly identifies the university. As for the basketball uniforms being gray, basketball uniforms have trailed football uniforms in using alternative design. Saying they have 'done that for years' is misleading. Basketball began using alternative uniforms after football began. Not before. Our colors are orange & maroon. For about a century now.

For the record, we already know anOSU isn't wearing this helmet

@historyhokie.bsky.social

Feel like this has been addressed before, but the helmet they stick there is not indicative of the helmet they wear.

Hokiesports info graphic for the game shows our usual white jersey at the bottom, so you can probably count on that. I'm hoping for the maroon helmet and white pants

I know this is not a possibility, but what if we had the old gobbler in maroon on an all white helmet with white facemask, white jersey, no stripes, and white pants, no stripes, with a small VT on the hip.... thoughts?

Well the good guys do wear white

Without a double stroke or some other design element to the jerseys themselves, it would look too plain. Even when we had relatively simple jerseys the double stoked #'s and contrasting color on the shoulder #'s gave it a 'lil something. Plain white jerseys with a plain Chicago Maroon Varsity Block typeface would be very bland.

For better or worse, these recruits get all excited about the "special" unis and uni combos. That is why there has been such a big push all over the NCAA for them the last 3-4 years.

I do, however like your idea about the white gobbler helmets and did a quick mock-up in Illustrator for a visual. I know they have been "retired" but I believe in Whit and his ability to unretire them. #Whitness.

a matte white helmet with a reflective/glossy gobler would be so sick!

I read an interview of Whit Babcock where he answered a question about any new football uniforms this year. I think he said nothing new and would most likely have VT on the helmets all year.

The gray unis were a step above what we've got now, design-wise. I wouldn't mind seeing a maroon version.

They looked really cheap to me. I'm fine with a gray uni, but I didn't like the look of the shiny gray pants, the design of the jersey (it looked HS quality to me), etc.

I'd like to see gray in the 99 design with maroon and orange numbers/letters.

No, no, no, no, fuck no, no

Sorry for the language, but thats how strongly I hated that design. Mainly because it was a complete shameless, blatant ripoff of the 2007 West Virginia uniform set. You should never look like one of your main rivals, especially one that we loathe as much as the couchburners. The fact we color-swapped their uniform set for the Alabama game last year will always be unsettling to me. Someone in our Athletic Dept REALLY dropped the ball in approving that one.

The striping used is called Varsity Striping. UCLA and Ohio (utilizing a center stripe the same color as the base uni, not 2 different contrasting colors) also utilizes it.

And that's just a small handfull of the teams that have worn that style, Off the top of my head, others include Duke, Indy/Balt Colts, SD Chargers (they used it, just with a bolt inside the center stripe), SDSt, NCSU & UNC (back in the day), etc. Its such a well-used design aesthetic that it, at times, has also been adopted on the baseball field.

Very good...and you can add Ole Miss, the Auburn jerseys on occasion, and the old Patriots uniforms as well. There is some great tradition/nostalgia associated with the style.

Actually, Auburn's is called University Striping. It has a thicker center stripe, with contrasting colored outer stripes and space in between.
(Green Bay used the Collegiate striping, similar to University but the center stripe was thinner than the outer ones. And All-American stripping is when all 3 stripes are the same thickness with space between. Example is the bottom of the old Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins)

@VTnerf on insta, @BuryHokie on twitter, #ThanksFrank

I don't think the specific color and spacing of the stripes are significant...the overall nostalgic/traditional impression that the shoulder-stripe style creates is more contentious.

And, the striping similar to our, with a center white stripe on a non-white uni with contrasting outer stripes is call NFL striping. Think the pants of the Cowboys and Saints.

Then there's Northwestern Striping, with similar spacing/sizing as the University but all 3 stripes are the same color.

Beamer wore the stripes and that's good enough for me.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0UpWq3auJJA/UIBOrAtyZII/AAAAAAAA64o/ZSNlpTInIUY/s1600/beamercoverhelmetx-large.jpg

I give it a pass because we're wearing what is essentially a throwback to the Frank Beamer era uniforms, which is a style set that has been prominent over the years in both college and the NFL, so its not like we really ripped off LSU with the look, unless that was the intent back in the '60s.

The grey uniform template, as far as I have been able to find, has only been worn by one other team in the entirety of collegiate and pro teams before us last year, and that team was West Virgnia, from about 2007 to 2012. Even worse, WVU debuted a grey set a couple years prior that is an exact color-swap of the one we wore last year (just with a different number font). I mean, there really is no explaining that one away.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Many teams have gone with a grey uniform set. Off the top of my head, WVU, SCar, Tenn, Miss St, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Arky, Okie St, Wazzu, Texas Tech... They've all gone with a grey uniform, be it paired with grey or regular pants. I'm not saying we shouldn't go grey, I had no problem with the color.

My issue is that we wore a design that had only been worn by one program before us... West Virginia.

Those were sick, you can't have gradient numbers any longer though. They have to be solid colors for the statisticians.

All maroon everything

Let's pick something and stay with it! The biggest problem I have with VTs unis is that we always change. I think this is also the way whit is thinking.

Sounds like OS is treating this as a big gane and doing an unusual uni combo. What if we do the dance and pop out something special. Won't be unusual.

Could also go color on color, as that mindset was used during the colorless non Hd era.

if anything I would expect 1 piece of the uniform to be special.. Nike isn't dumb and it would be a way for them to say look 2 nike sponsored teams look super swag!

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

Just no bad helmet decals VT logo looks awesome, no matter the color combo. Please no VA outline...

Hell yeah Corey. Last year all we heard about was the problems he was having and game 2 @ anOSU, he's carrying the state flag. Hell of a turnaround, I'm happy for him. Rip it up.

Yes.
Maroon with black face masks.
Dress for success.

I think they're actually matte maroon. Which looks pretty damn good.

We should have no other helmets than those, excepting possibly a white version with maroon VT for away games. Just that - creates the VT brand, establishes continuity, and is immediately recognizable as Virginia Tech. Not gray, not stone, not discontinued gobbler from four decades ago, not SuperHokieBird, just that. Winning draws recruits, not bizarre & unrecognizable uniforms. Winning.

I actually really like the Hokie Stone helmets. We just should never ever not put a stripe on them.

IMO, one problem with the Hokie Stone Helmets was that they had a green/blue tint to them in good light that didn't really look like the more grey/brown Hokie Stone.

I agree. I'm so tired of us changing all the time. Let's pick something classy and be traditional

All I see here are what appear to be our standard maroon jerseys. Which leads me to believe 1 of 2 things.

1) We actually have maroon pants with the matching stripe combo (which I've wanted for a while with this uniform set)
2) We will be wearing maroon lids, with maroon tops....which may mean the debut of #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING as we know maroon pants are in the mix this year!

I'm hoping for #2 and it's a color on color game.

Uniform design is something I happen to have an interest in. I think they can say a lot about a team. In our case I have some observations:

1. The grey Uni's, while they were different, looked like they were ripped off of a high school design. The shoulders were baggy and not well fitting, they just all around looked cheap. Those black uni's against Boise were slick and you could tell nike put a lot of effort in those.

2. The helmet is the most iconic part of the uniform. It is what opponents and people remember most (unless the uniform is really that ugly or flashy). To constantly change helmets, logos, etc. is just beyond frustrating from a marketing standpoint. When Lane Stadium didn't have the lighting it has now, I remember night games with *lower* lighting and the maroon looked downright dark and mean. I love the solid maroon, we have had it for a long time. The only addition I would be willing to entertain is putting a white-orange-white stripe down the center. But mainly just keep them the same.

3. For military appreciation...no more maroon and orange diarrhea on a uniform with a helmet to match. Get the maroon VT and put on some NICE grey uniforms with either black stripes (VPI throwback) or something military..but camo uni's never look good.

4. Apparently the recruits like orange uni's so those probably aren't going anywhere but let's just restrict them to orange effect.

5. One specialty uniform and helmet combination is acceptable.

These are all my opinions, obviously, but I guess I am old school.

See I know people don't like our orange jerseys because we have bad luck in them, but I like this iteration:
a
and this one with a white helmet (I agree just having a VT on it):
a
with white pants.

I like wearing orange pants with white jerseys and maroon helmets to. I love our colors, I don't want to relegate orange to an accent color. I hated those orange jerseys with maroon side panels that we had before this style jersey though. Those were the worst.

I completely agree. Orange shouldn't be relegated to an accent only. But there are several schools in the ACC that feature orange (Clemson, Syracuse, Miami, and UVA). The thing that makes us unique is the maroon so my preference would be for that to be the dominant color. I am not a fan of white helmets, never have been.

The bad luck in orange, as I have seen it, is when we roll out the all orange uniform. The thing that scares me the most, being a hokie, is that we have orange pants, orange tops, and we have worn an orange helmet before. IT would be the worst game ever to see all three together. Maybe the key is one of the three being orange...
