Looking forward to the rematch but here's a question:
If we both win out what do you think the chances are of a rematch in the playoffs?
Will the narrative be:
A young OSU lost to the eventual ACC champ in a game that was pretty close for most of the time; as the season went on they kept getting better and are a much improved team
or
OSU lost their big game but won a weak B1G and so don't deserve a shot?
I think the PAC12\SEC\ACC winners are in which leaves the us and the Big12 on the bubble. Our best shot is a 2 loss conference champ and of course we need to win out , which is not a sure thing, because even winning the conference with 2 losses would keep any B1G team out.
Just curious since the new 4 team playoff offers some interesting rematch potential especially if teams start scheduling stronger OOC games.

I guess it's possible..but I doubt it. If you guys win out you would still need to be favored over a potentially undefeated BIG12 team. Oklahoma looks like a force to be reckoned with and I'm not convinced they'll be beaten before the playoffs. That being said, winning the B1G may not be enough anyway considering this past weekend really hurt the reputation of the conference as a whole. Sure there are opportunities to bounce back but at this point you look to have a pretty soft schedule. The toughest team I see is Mich St which isn't a gimme and they probably won't be ranked in the top 10 considering they lost to Oregon.
Anything can happen though! If there was a rematch it would have to be in the final. I doubt very much they would pair us up in the first round.
VT doesn't have much of a tougher schedule either..with ECU and all of the bottom feeders in the ACC (BC, Wake, LOLUVA, GT, da U) our resume wouldn't be all that impressive. We are not invincible by any means and history dictates that we will drop at least one game between now and December. Even if we make it to the ACC CG we would have to beat a pretty talented FSU team. I know they haven't looked spectacular in their first couple of weeks but I'm sure they'll be a well oiled machine by November.
It's a long shot for either team to get there...at this point all I can think is "take care of business this week and everything will shake out"
Best of luck to you guys for the rest of the year. We would LOVE for you to be in the top 10 coming to Bburg next year:D
I agree there is a lot of football to be played. The big advantage I see you having in a ACC championship game is even if you have a loss if you play and beat FSU the loss won't matter. We, on the other hand, will face a team that got no respect.
Definitely looking forward to Blacksburg. The only thing better than OSU meeting the defending national champions in that game would be for you to be playing against the defending champions. We can dream, can't we?
I take it you are #teampie
^^^ That Pie is too Damn High.
next year in Lane Stadium should be just as entertaining.
I think whether or not the B1G gets a slot or not depends on whether or not the B12 winner can go undefeated - that is surely the death knell for any 1 loss B1G Champion no matter how much you improve.
As long as the Hokies make it to the playoffs, it doesn't matter who we beat down on the way there.
We still gotta beat ECU, and everyone else on our schedule for that to even be a thought. It's a long season, so who knows what crazy stuff can happen
The folks in charge of the playoffs still care about money and OSU brings butts and eyeballs. Depending on how much the committee favors conference champions who've played in and won that extra champ game, they may very well get the nod over an OU. I'd bet that OSU still has a chance if they win out and look good doing it.
Depends how good Tennessee ends up being. Oklahoma hosts them this weekend to wrap up their OOC schedule.
I hope Oklahoma destroys them.
It'd look better if UT plays well the next few seasons, so we can spoil their good vibes in Bristol
Is it bad that I'm already worried about "The Battle of Bristol"? UT is on the rise and I'm 3 hours from Knoxville. Sitting in the stands in Atlanta a few years ago watching us crush their dreams was oh so sweet. Their fans, at least around here, are in a nutshell difficult to coexist with.
I'll never forget the pure bliss that was standing in the Georgia Dome that New Year's Eve night. 37-14 is a score I'm likely never to forget. Tennessee is so overrated and they aren't even ranked. I couldn't tell you when the last time they have been either, which isn't good (In all honesty, I'm 21, and I think it was back when I was in 7th grade if that says anything). Their fans have been saying "THEY ARE ON THE RISE" for years and they seriously think they're national contenders right now. And while they've just had decent performances against Utah State and Arkansas State, they still say Virginia Tech is overrated and has no schedule. "The only reason we beat Ohio State was because Braxton Miller was absent, and Tennessee would've beat them 60-0" (yes, that was an actual comment on facebook, crazy, right?) Tennessee fans are difficult to coexist with anywhere. I see that puke-out-of-a-pumpkin orange everywhere I go. Sigh, I need to stop. I seriously could go on all night. I'm going to be a spectacle on September 10th 2016, that's for certain.
screw tennessee and this dude. that is all.
HA ha ha. That dude destroys every program he touches. Up next.... Alabama. Troll Tide.
I admire, respect and agree with your very insightful, professional and expert analysis of that tiny school in Knoxville that colored themselves after an unripened fruit.
LEGS FOR ALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tennessee hasn't been relevant since 2001 when they lost to LSU in the SECCG. Since then.....they might as well be Kentucky with boats. Mississippi State with a different breed of dog. Vandy without the pretentiousness.
Plus you know ESPN is going to try to get 2 or more SEC teams in the playoffs.
Alabama, Auburn, USCe, and UGA are all automatic bids according to ESPN. All remaining bids can be divied up amongst other conferences.
After their defense of the first 2 weeks, I am not sure USCe will be bowl qualified by the end of the year.
I was surprised the Buckeye left the "get boned by the committee putting a 2 loss SEC team in over the B1G or Big12 Champ" scenario off the table. I knew it wouldn't slip past TKP though.
I wish we could do a regular series with you guys.
Your team and your fans have proved to be the class of the league.
Now I need to watch OSU and VT games on Saturdays.
Go Buckeyes.
Same here. Watched the game with some OSU friends at their house -- and a great time was had by all (well, some more than others). Now they're trying to convert me to Browns Backer. But I'm holding out until they have a Fuller.
unless you have sadistic tendencies, I would avoid the Browns. It been nothing but anguish since my childhood, damn my loyalties.
Loyalties are always good, regardless. See Alma Mater definition and also see Hokie football 2012 -2013...
I'll be an Orioles and Redskins fan til I die, and many seasons are frustrating.
well Washington is the same old, but how 'bout them O's?
Yes sir! How 'BOUT them O's!!
Let's join in the hatred of UVa and Michigan together.
#ScrewBlue.
I was at the game last weekend and I have to say that tOSU fans were the best opposing fans to interact with. A great fanbase and a great program too. I can't wait to show tOSU some Hokie hospitality over Labor Day weekend next year.
To be fair, do you ever worry about interacting with LOLUVA fans, at the game?
During the actual game, not a chance. Before and after the game is what I am referencing.
It's fun to dream, but that's made things tough of late. Let's take things a week at a time and play the hands we're dealt. I continue to be impressed with the class OSU has shown the Hokies. Looking forward to Labor Day. Until then, keep it between the mayonnaise and mustard.
This is one of my favorite commercials:
Until we meet again, kemosabe and noble 11ws

I think you're looking at the first...as much of a storyline the B1G gave media after this weekend, everyone has short memories. In the unlikely event both of us win out, Saturday night won't look quite the way it does right now. At that point you're looking at a lone loss to a Top-10, and depending on other perhaps Top-5, team. We would have then beaten FSU most likely so this loss really won't look that bad.
It's easy to pencil in those other three conference champs, but remember:
1. The Big-12 isn't enjoying a stellar reputation currently either.
2. It's entirely possible that none of those conference champs would be undefeated, so then we're comparing that one loss. Yours would be a decent one so all of the others have to avoid a bad loss.
So long story short, should both teams go undefeated I think there's a good 50% chance both of us are in. But you should probably know East Carolina is our kryptonite so this conversation may be pointless in about 3 days.
Thanks for visiting TKP and enjoy your visit to Blacksburg next year!
FTFY.
In the Big 12, I figure there's going to be Oklahoma, Baylor, and one other "surprise" team that will go into late November with a good record, and then they will probably all beat each other in a round robin. Or one of those teams will have 1 or 2 losses, and beat the other two, just weakening all of their rankings.
In the Pac-12, I figured UCLA would take it, but they've been unimpressive. I'm not sure how good USC really is, but I know they're good enough to take advantage of any mistake UCLA makes. Oregon always seems to get a little too full of themselves between Halloween and Thanksgiving, and drops a game that they shouldn't.
