shai McKenzie

I have a friend behind the scenes on the team and early outlook is not good on shai, possibly a torn acl....good news is dadi is OK! But still hopes and prayers its just a sprain or something for shai!

Those non contact injuries are just killers. Really hope its just a sprain.

That's a very tough prognosis for such a great RB. McKenzie has huge potential, and you just hate to see an injury at a time that one would expect is early in his overall career. The reminder of Ryan Williams' multiple injuries basically derailing his own career still linger, and make news like that even more depressing.

Prayers & best wishes to Shai & his family in what will hopefully be a hurdle that he overcomes. Regardless of his production on the field - I'm proud to include him in Hokie Nation!

Horrible news if true. I will say we are pretty deep at RB and Trey looked very good in the touches he got yesterday. I think we will be fine with Trey and Juice.

I hope your inside contact is wrong . I would hate for shai to go through another major injury in his young college career.

Jeeze, terrible news for someone so young and talented. Hoping he can fully recover, and come back to us ready to roll.

Hopefully just a sprain, but either way he will need to sit for awhile to make sure there aren't any ghosts of previous injuries in that knee.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

I have a feeling this will be true. It just makes me so sad for him. Sure we are super deep at Running back and really has no major impact on the season, but thats not really the point is it. Shai put it all on the line for us and worked so hard every week. I hate that this happened to him after fighting back so hard to get to where he was. Sometimes football sucks.

Somewhat related, so posting here. Beamer seemed to think Dadi would be fine, but here it is from the manimal himself:

For those that weren't in the stadium, there was a "Dadi, Dadi!" chant as he was been escorted off the field. It was awesome.

Tough. Hopefully it isn't a complete tear. I've been really impressed with him this season.

The one positive is that Trey looks like he is back.

If a complete tear, do you redshirt him next year to ensure he fully recovers? I figure that he would have redshirted if Trey was ready at the start of the season.

I'm guessing it's too far into the season for a medical redshirt right? With 5 games in, you'd think that's probably out of the question.

Well crap.

So obviously Juice has just become the unquestioned starter. But is anyone else concerned about trying to force Trey into a number two back role just based on three carries against Western Michigan? I think we need a three back rotation. 50% Juice, 25% Trey, 25% Caleb. Let's see how Trey holds up with 8-10 carries a game before we try to say he has returned to form.

Agreed. I was happy to see how far Trey has progressed, but I'd like to see a little more of Caleb, too (granted all I've seen was garbage time against WMich)

I thought Trey looked like the Trey of old on Saturday. I think resting him for the first 4 games really allowed him to heal up and he'll be ready to play a lot now.

I hate that for Shai. I've really enjoyed watching him drop the shoulder on would-be tacklers this year.

Is it the same knee?

Unfortunately yes.

sucks.

Heartbreaking for Shai, seems to be a good kid. Hope his recovery goes well!

as troubling as it is, I wish Shai the proper recovery and perhaps even a red-shirt next year to fully recover. On the other hand, nice to see Trey get in on the 1-2 punch. I'm also hoping that Joel Caleb gets more confident and gets in the game for some opportunities. I'm still not sure what/how they are going to use JC Coleman, the guy does have talent but making him run to the edge with no blocking doesn't seem to work anymore. We need to get him the ball somehow, maybe some slants
