LT Might Start Against Redskins

Former Hokie and Cardinals HC Bruce Arians is hopeful that Stanton or Palmer will be able to play but there is a good chance that neither will be ready. Arians said they have to get at least one full practice this week to play.

The Cardinals just signed former Oregon star Dennis Dixon to the practice squad. I'm assuming that is to provide some QB depth behind Thomas if neither Stanton nor Palmer can play.

Some of the fan forums I keep up with are not very confident that the passing game will do well this week due to how poorly the receivers played last Sunday (8 or 9 drops) and how poorly LT played (1 for 8 passing).

What are your thoughts/predictions on how Thomas will play against the Redskins? I'm a huge fan of the guy, but I do think that TD pass was pretty lucky. Not to mention that, outside of one preseason game, he has played fairly erratic to say the least. That said, I think that getting all the number 1 reps and a game plan centered around him will do well for him.

Arians is a very smart offensive coach. It's gonna be a lot of Ellington and some quick easy throws early to get LT6's confidence up. Keep it vanilla early and hopefully execute and then take advantage with that big arm of Logan's to Larry Fitzgerald for some bombs.

Now, if bad Logan shows up, or they just flat out can't protect him, it could be a long day whatever the game plan.

I think he'd be better served as an NFL QB using his arm to throw to a very good receiver corps (assuming everything around the throw is clicking), but I'd love, just once, to see him truck a defender again. Maybe Meriweather or Orakpo, just to make me feel better (Washington fan)

If there's one team you want to make your first start in the NFL against, it's Washington.

And I'm a Washington fan, I would know.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I was actually kind of impressed with the way the Redskins D played against Seattle. I expect them to bring a lot of pressure considering Arizona's offense will center around Ellington and LT probably isn't used to NFL speed quite yet.

Oh they'll play great until you really need them to make a play in the clutch and then it's all womp from there.

This is hilarious. Imagine that being played in FedEx post game when the players are walking back. Great anthem

Inconsistency will kill you at QB (ask Redskins fans about Cousins for instance I guess). And adjusting to an NFL defensive scheme with some savvy playmakers and two beasts on the edge in Kerrigan and Orakpo might lead to a difficult game. But Arians will certainly have a plan to get him as comfortable as possible based on his development so far. I hope he has a great game, but I'm not expecting a Nick Foles-esque debut or anything. Good luck LT6.

Is that what they call UVA linemen now? Inconsistency?

I kid.

Wow. I don't know who 76 is, but he wasn't even LOOKING in that direction. Of course he got beat.

That would be former UVA "great" Morgan Moses.

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

It was Morgan Moses. Ask James Gayle how good Morgan Moses is...

That must have been the Student Step Spin Move? Moses struggles with that move.

lol at Moses, but does Jackson make that catch?

Heh, Orakpo the .5 sacks through 5 games beast of the edge. Media guides crack me up

Orakpo has had a terrible year thus far. I'd be shocked if they gave him a new contract next year

I scratched my screen to make sure that wasn't a 5. Damn.

I hate to be the buzzkill Hokie guy here and I wouldn't be surprised if I got some downvotes, but I really hope Logan Thomas plays this week, being a Redskins fan. If Palmer or Stanton plays, we're gonna get smoked. But if LT plays, this could actually be the week the Skins finally get a decent win. Again, I'm a Logan Thomas fanatic and wish him nothing but the best, but I am so freaking tired of watching the Redskins lose every week that I think if he starts, he gives us a very good shot at winning, even in Arizona.

Hey, more losses = higher draft pick ;)

There are too many needs on the Redskins right now that one draft pick won't solve haha

Snyder'd make them trade it away for three magic beans and a piece of bubble gum on the sidewalk anyway.

If that happens, I never wanna hear another "third and Logan" joke on this web site again hahahaha. Our secondary is bad enough that Logan could have a field day against us tho. Sucks not having D Hall back there

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

I love D-Hall, but he's past his prime and was a liability in our secondary.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

You're joking right? He was the best player on our secondary and that unit is in absolute shambles without him.

He was still the best corner back there - the entire secondary is a liability... We are starting the 4th round pick out of Clemson. It's a disaster.

It was a catch

Could not disagree more. Not only had D Hall played like a Pro Bowler since last year, he also had to cover some of the League's top wideouts. And not only that, he wanted to be the guy to do so, probably since no one else in our secondary could do a half decent job against the likes of Brandon Marshall, Dez Bryant and any other elite WRs the Redskins faced last year. If anything, last year was Hall's best year of his career. He was and still is the only CB we have that I have any trust in at all right now.

I love how old both of these clips are. We last played Baltimore in 2012 (unless this is from the preseason game, in which case... yawn) and that New England game looked like it was at least 5 years old. I said for the past year and a half, he's played like a Pro Bowler. We could find clips of any good CBs in the league get smoked and make them look like idiots. I was arguing that his injury really hurts our secondary and that he was easily our best corner. Not sure how any reasonable Redskins fan could argue that

Two years ago is old? Oh.

that New England game looked like it was at least 5 years old.

Also two years ago, MAYBE three

Not sure how any reasonable Redskins fan could argue that

Here's your biggest mistake; I'm a Redskins fan so therefore I'm not reasonable, generally :/

Dude, what's your point? Tell me who the best guy in our secondary is if it isn't D Hall. I know your response is two days old and I'm just seeing it but why are trying to bring down the guy so much? Seriously, name a better CB on that team. I'll wait...

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

To be fair, on that first one he was trying to poke the ball out, came close once or twice. That second one, though... wow. I get that he figured his guys could take care of it, but why not still run in there and lay on the hit?

Logan won't have to do much too for the Cardinals to win. I don't expect for the Redskins to score much at all against a very tough Cardinals defense.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Disagree with that. If they can put up 17 on Seattle, they will find a way put up some points on any defense that has to play with LT as their QB and a "solid" WR corps that had 8 drops last week. That defense would never get off the field

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

Solid point but Arizona is a different beast at home and the same can go for Seattle (before winning the Super Bowl one of their very few criticisms was the dropoff they had from playing on the road vs playing at home) If the game were in Washington with LT starting, I think the Skins could definitely win but I just don't see them winning in Zona no matter who starts.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Arians once said the best way to learn is to play in real game, not on the bench. the coaching staff will get the starting qb ready . Watching the game on sunday , a lot of the drops were not hard balls at all. The drops started in the first quarter with Drew as the Qb. The WRS will have to also get better to help the Qb out.

If you have the AZ starting RB on your fantasy team, play him this week.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I do, and he got healthy at just the right time.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Here's the thing, the Redskins D, especially the secondary, is so so so...bad. They aren't even a dumpster fire, they're a landfill inferno.

On one play in the MNF game against Seattle John Gruden literally said "I don't even know what you would call that coverage. IIRC, it had 4 guys deep and no one at all in the entire middle of the field for 30 yards.

I'm not one to usually blame coaches for everything and I think our secondary has some serious issues (captain obvious here), but I don't get why Haslett was Jay Gruden's go-to guy. I don't care if the guy used to be a head coach, the defense on the field last year was atrocious. The defensive line for Redskins has some real talent

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

I think retaining Haz was Allen's call, not Gruden's.

The TD was lucky but was actually a good throw into a tight spot. Incompletions were due to pressure throws and some drops. Drops were on easy throws and not due to LT.

Any rookie has to adjust to the game speed and get experience. It will interesting to watch to see how far LT has progressed.

#Let's Go - Hokies

Only one of the drops was on a pass from LT and I'd argue that there was a pocket for him to step into, he was just flustered. I agree that he will do much better this week than against Denver, but there is no getting around that he has played poorly every time we've seen him with the Cardinals(outside of the first preseason game).

I will also be watching to see how his game has improved, going through reads, better footwork, etc. Still expecting his mind to trip up his feet a little bit, I don't think we will see the game any slower for him yet.

"I thought the kid right there you're talking to right there played his nuts off."

Start against Washington? No fear -- he'll be 20-25, 300 yds, 3 TDs, and 45 on the ground. We suck this year.

The best news is I can probably watch the game. The deadskins are always on the TV in Virginia.

The good: Logan vs. Redskins would be win-win for me.

The bad: Because of the novelty, the Logan Thomas Drinking Game: NFL Edition would have an explosive first round, and I have to work.

Tony Jefferson, Safety for AZ Cards on Logan Thomas.

Logan Thomas "has looked a lot better" in practice this week. Jefferson said "this kid can throw." Jefferson thinks Thomas has improved his accuracy, calling it "way better than when he got here."

Various stuff not at important and a couple statements on LG.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I don't know if he's been renamed the starter, but I heard on the radio yesterday that Drew Stanton passed the concussion tests and is cleared to play this weekend

Looks like even if Palmer cant go, it will be Stanton.
