OT - Chip Kelly taking uniform trend to Eagles?

Apparently the Eagles will be wearing All Black Everything this weekend for the first time in franchise history. Is this a sign that alternate uniforms are now becoming more common and may even become the norm? Or does the NFL have rules limiting the frequency and style of non-standard uniforms?

The NFL has rules limiting the use of alternate uniforms.

The Eagles are actually in a bit of a bind right now. Apparently, Nike came back to them this summer and said they did not have enough of their midnight green fabric to make their uniform set this year on time. They had so little of it, that Nike informed the team they will not have green uniforms ready until the 8th week of the season. Its why you've only seen the team wear white and black uniforms this season. Quite the screw-up for the official supplier of NFL uniforms to not be able to color-match one of the 32 teams of the league its supposed to be the experts at outfitting.

I have not been impressed by Nike lately....

Onward and upward

Yea Nike is too busy worrying about UA and trying to outbid them on contracts. Their quality and product is suffering because of it.

I don't know anything about Nike's corporate structure, but I would think they'd be large enough to battle UA with one branch while still designing and producing products at the same level... Unless I missed something

You'd think that would be the case, but little things like this keep popping up that keep showing that they aren't. Personally I don't like UA but they seem to be trolling Nike. They offered that huge deal to Durant knowing that Nike couldn't let him walk. From looking afar it just seems like Nike is distracted by UA and keeps having hiccups with UA just keeps rolling.

It's not like the Eagles have been around for awhile. I can totally understand how Nike could forget about them.

Leonard. Duh.

Or the fact you can still readily purchase Nike made replica jerseys online and through the Eagles store, Nike didn't have any problem having enough fabric to manufacture those. But for the ones to be worn by the team itself? Yeah... about that....

Wow. I actually hadn't noticed that they'd only been wearing black jerseys. I guess this whole "All Black Everything" look is supposed to be making the best of a bad situation.

Thanks for filling me in there, that is awful.

They've been wearing white or black. I've mostly seen them in the white.

I was kind of wondering that when they played the Redskins, but I chalked it up to how they sometimes like to wear the white early in the season. (It's also noticeable because the Skins have worn their burgundy and gold uniforms in every game so far this year.)

I did actually look it up, and saw that I was completely wrong. With the exception of one preseason game where they wore black jerseys with white pants, they've worn all-white in all 5 games so far, so this'll be the first time they've worn black jerseys in a regular season game this year. But apparently black jerseys with white pants is a recurring alternate uniform that they wear occasionally.

As a diehard Birds fan, I am excited to see the look, even though the circumstances that pushed the team that way are less than ideal. Nice work Nike. I wish they would just go back to good ole Kelly green unis like the team wore when I was a wee lad going to games when my parents and their friends had season tickets.

If anything, i want to see All Black Everything result in a burial of the G-Men

They are going back to the Kelly Green color with the modernized (current) wings. This had been in the works for a little bit now and I think takes place next year. There is a Kelly Green jersey mockup of a logo slick floating around on Twitter which I believe is a fake considering it has Oregon elements in it and doesn't look very professionally done.

This. I've been saying for 4 or 5 weeks in a row now things like "Maybe the offense will hit stride this week..." I would love to actually be right about that this week.

Not quite all black everything. NFL requires the same helmet to be worn for the entire season now.

I suppose it would be too much trouble to repaint the helmets for such a pivotal point in Eagles history.

They upgraded to the Elite 51 style this year for all jerseys. The white and black could be produced quickly since its a standard color. Their green is s custom color for the Elite 51 style, and thus the delay.

Yeah, the normal green helmets will be worn. I'm a big Eagles fan living in DC and I just heard about the green jersey screw up. Not sure how that's possible; seems completely ridiculous. I was getting curious why we were only wearing our whites week after week (we wore the black jerseys once in the preseason). We've never worn black pants so I'm interested to see the combo.

Likely, it will just look like 53 dudes in yoga pants.

Sounds like the Eagles knew about the delay, but green-lighted the change in the jerseys anyway...

If you put the right accents on black pants, it doesn't look like yoga pants. I had the same fears when the Panthers unveiled their intentions to wear all black (they're called the Panthers, what took them so long to get this into the works anyways?)... but they put blue stripes down the sides and avoided the yoga pants look. I like 'em.

Big Eagles fan. And super pumped about the all-black. Hopefully it makes another appearance after this one

I don't really have an opinion on this topic but I'm pretty sure I know how Riley Cooper feels about it.

"How you doin', Randy?"

Black out is at least a little better than that horrible green, teal garbage they wear every other week. Of course, I'm a Redskins fan so anything the Eagles wear is still appalling

Yeah, that's kind of your job to hate everything they do ever, regardless of how not-terrible it actually may be.

Kind of like how we like to say UVA sucks except actually who are we kidding they actually do.
