http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/southeast.php
A lot of you probably dunno yet, the mid atlantic is about to get hit pretttttty hard with some storms. I attached a page to the NWS radar (particularly of the southeast). These storms are going to trend northward, this coupled with all of the available heating over the course of the day is building up a lot of potential for our area. My colleagues (who are admitidly a little better at this than me) are putting the bullseye on the hampton area. Weekly weather report will be out later tonight and I'm going to go over tornadic potential in squall lines. But basically you'll see a long line of storms most likely (these are called a squall line) and they're usually just rain/hail/straight line winds. However if you see a blip come off of the squall line, that still appears red in color you've got another problem. Those are called discrete cells, discrete cells do have some tornadic potential and should winds keep adjusting like they are and the ground continues to warm up (LIKE IT IS) there will be plenty of potential there for tornadoes (not saying there WILL be one, but there is a possibility) regardless, do heed the national weather services warnings and watches, they are legitamate. I've already been scoffed at a few times today because "it seems nice out" but trust me, particularly in the virginia beach area. Theres a reason they're spitting these things out.
I was looking for better images but I'm currently up at the CRC working on a linux....I need ma snippin tool

but seriously folks, heed the warnings. we had a tornado tear up our neighborhood and jump right over our house when i was kid in north carolina. it was bad news.
Chris Farley...damn. Always gets a leg.
Loved that guy.
Thanks for the heads up, eshiben5. Always better to be prepared.
Are we sure this isn't eshiben5?
You have no idea how many times these memes have cycled around the meteorology circles in the last two days haha
Scary Looking Cloud Club:

Think we'll see any shelf clouds?
Yeah if you can time it right the squall line should have a pretty good shelf cloud
So, am I to understand I probably shouldn't be riding my motorcycle until I hear the All Clear signal?
That's harsh, bro.
Sorry bubs
Do we have the all clear yet?
Depends where you live? The really bad stuff seems done in the mid Atlantic but were probably be going to get wind and rain all day
We are getting PUMMELED in PA right now
HOAT, you're in State College, correct?
Hershey looks dry on the radar, but we've got a nasty looking cell heading over Lancaster (where I work)
Yeah, state college. This morning it was really heavy for quite a while. It was very light the rest of the day.
Same in Hershey - fiance said it was heavy this afternoon, but it was over by the time I got home.
We're still talking about the weather, right?
Looks like I picked a good time to overseed the lawn...thanks for the heads up!
still nothing in DC...from watching the radar over the last 4 hours it looks like it's just going north right by us...I'm not really expecting to get much..maybe the tail end of the storm will catch us this evening?
You haven't gotten anything yet? Like not even last night? I don't think its done yet, I believe the squall has passed to no significant damage but the brunt of the storm is still trending northward.
Much like the winter storm we had last year its just riding up the Appalachians and dropping a ton of precipitation in the region
Update:
We did get some serious rain from about 12:45P - 1P and then it slowed down to a steady rainfall and by 5:00 was pretty much just a sprinkle...the storm seemed to bypass us just to the west mostly. Places around us got hammered though. I work in SE DC and my fiancee works in the Pentagon. She told me that they had much more rain than I described for DC.
TORNADO WARNING IN DC
WARNING - one has been spotted and conditions favor the probability of one god speed to those of you in DC
So basically...
We are getting little spin off fly-by showers right now on the Eastern Shore, just off the Chesapeake. But tonight looks like when it will bring its full power to us. Actually kind of sunny outside right now. Glad they decided to wait on the pouring of concrete!
http://hint.fm/wind/ you can see the track of the storm in the wind map
That's a cool map.
