Considering the work FSU is doing to embarrass the ACC off the field, I'm completely OK with them getting a karmic beat down in that first half. Hope it keeps up.
I've been watching the UL OL on every play, very impressive work by those guys. Considering the fact that this is their OL coaches first year they are operating at an exceptionally high level, it's nice to see.

But I guess since this is the ACC, FSU is over-rated and Louisville is a bad football team. Now Ole Miss-LSU... that was a football game... 10-7... hoo boy! Couple o' world cham-peens there.
Oh yeah if FSU lost they would drop to 11 and Louisville would have moved up 5, BUT if they were SEC teams FSU would drop to like 9 and Louisville would be 8 or higher...
Yeah, with FSU's slow start last night they'll probably get passed by Bama and whoever wins Ole Miss-Auburn.

Escape? Seems a lot more like they shook off the cobwebs, got their crap together and dominated the 2nd half.
Mostly because Jimbo once again took the load off his QB, leaned on his running game, and then let Winston throw off of playaction. Winston is not a great QB when he just has to drop back and throw, despite what Jesse & co. would have you belive, from hearing them talk all night. Jimbo did this exact thing all last year and for most of this year: he puts the entire gameplan on Winston's shoulders and then at the half realizes he should keep it on the ground to open up the pass, and that's when the "switch" goes on and FSU rolls. Happens every week just about.
Huh, sure looked like Winston was throwing the ball all over the place in the 2nd half to me. There was a slightly better 1st down run-pass ratio in the 2nd half, but the big difference was he was actually connecting on his deeper throws and avoiding INTs. Oh and the FSU defense started locking up Dyer and pressuring Gardner in the 2nd half.
Unfortunately there's no easily accessible stat on play-action, and I missed most of the 1st half. So I can't comment on whether they ran play action much in the 1st. But it's not like there was any more dominant of a running game in the 2nd half aside from Cook's 2 big runs. Williams and Cook were picking solid yardage in the first half, Winston was just throwing incompletions and INTs when passes were called.
First half: (sacks count as failed pass attempts)

I think FSU just played better on both sides of the ball in the 2nd half. Especially Winston & the defense.
It seems to me like Jameis has terrible feet and body control mechanics. Any qb gurus out there that can elaborate any? Throwing off his back foot may work at this level, but I would think the NFL scouts would raise red flags.

for sure, but I wasn't talking about his limping last night. More the way he contorts his body and throws off his back foot even when not rushed. of course the limp may have been causing those things as well.

I'm not putting much stock into the "freshman mistakes" argument from VT either, but this comparison is a bit stretched. Cook was a Rivals/247 5* recruit, and he's playing for an offense that is well balanced with playmakers everywhere, behind an O-line that can actually open holes. We've got good talent at RB (if only we were healthy, it'd be awesome), WR, and TE, but an O-line that does nothing to help us. So the comparison here is not great as far as "being a freshman" is concerned.
Cook: 5 star running back. So yeah, I could see David Wilson doing that for the Hokies his freshman year. Stars can be blown out of proportion, but they aren't always wrong. And that kid is mega talented. I agree though, that seeing other teams' freshmen make plays like that is frustrating. Ford has made some pretty sweet plays himself, though
that was my main point.. I know we have OL problems but it sucks seeing other schools freshman make big plays week in week out. Its like salt in a wound.
Yes Dalvin was a 5* player came in early to FSU but hey that's what winning a big game does for a school and until we win a big Bowl game/air it out kids won't come. Ever wonder what a recruit see's/thinks of our offense because I sure as hell would love to hear their thoughts about the ball control/slow the game down scheme.
Great point. You can win with a properly executed ball control offense, but will you get people to buy in and want to play in it? We hear lots of recruits talk about how they want to play for one of the greats in Bud Foster, not so much on the offense...
I would say that pretty much ONLY freshmen have been making plays for the Hokies this year. The problem is more related to the O-line and QB position.
From the quotes I see from recruits, they all think they can fix what's broken. Yes it helps to have solid reputations (DBU), but nobody has that at every position.

I suppose it's a "let's just see what happens" kind of thing, but from that description, you've got a guy that knows a guy who may or may not have had any idea what was going on. Jameis is an easy target because of his past, and FSU's current state in general with all their legal troubles and Tally PD doing what they do best. Point shaving is tough to prove unless you've got some type of conversation between these guys; Louisville just looked great in that first half.
Sounds like a bunch of rumor mongering. FSU has started a lot of games slow, and Louisville was playing out of their minds for the first half, just couldn't keep it up.
Agreed. While I won't deny is ability to do something so stupid, he's an easy target for such rumors. Although, it's interestingly coincidental that his friend wagered that bet and he had one of the worst halfs of his college career (maybe THE worst).
A commenter from an article made a good point that he'd be stupid to bet on $5k when he'll be making $5,000,000 in a few months. Jamis lives in the present and I don't think he puts much stock in his future or his decision making process. Again, I wouldn't put it past him given his previous issues, but right now there's just nothing conclusive.
