The ACC's media released its 2014 All-ACC team this afternoon. The following is a release from the Virginia Tech athletic department.
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Led by first-team selection Kendall Fuller, several members Virginia Tech football squad have been rewarded on the individual level as eight Hokies were named All-ACC Monday in balloting conducted by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). Dadi Nicolas was a second-team selection while three made the third team and three others were named honorable mention.
Fuller was named to the first team as a cornerback, earning the most points among those at his position. He followed up a strong freshman year with 50 tackles, including 4.5 for loss and two sacks, with 14 pass break ups and an interception which he returned for a touchdown at North Carolina. It's the second all-league honor for the sophomore from Baltimore as he made the second team last season.
Nicolas had a break-out year in his first season as a starter, tallying 63 tackles, including 17.5 for loss and 9.0 sacks, to go along with 34 quarterback hurries, a pass break up, two blocked kicks and a fumble recovery. It's the first all-conference honor for the junior from Delray Beach, Florida.
Earning spots on the third team were sophomore defensive end Ken Ekanem, freshman tight end Bucky Hodges and junior defensive tackle Corey Marshall. Ekanem, from Centreville, Virginia, started all 12 games and has 46 tackles, 13.5 of which are for loss along with 8.5 sacks. Hodges, from Virginia Beach, Virginia, has had one of the best seasons for a Tech tight end in program history, catching 42 passes for 517 yards and seven touchdowns and also scored on a blocked punt recovery. Marshall, from North Dinwiddie, Virginia, has 39 tackles, including 9.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks, to go along with one interception and 23 quarterback hurries.
Three Hokies: wide receiver Isaiah Ford, defensive tackle Luther Maddy and defensive tackle Nigel Williams were named to the honorable mention squad.

Dadi not being first team is criminal. If Mario Edwards wasn't so highly regarded preseason and played on FSU he wouldn't be on first team. I think Ken had a better season than him as well.
FSU also had all 5 OL get all ACC and I watched Jameis get hammered all season.

pass break ups are such an underrated stat when evaluating defensive ends.
It's hard for Dadi and Ken to get PBUs when the QB still has the ball in his hands as they hit/tackle him! Edwards has the luxury of still being behind the offensive line when the pass is thrown!

They can't even spell Nigel's last name correctly under honorable mentions. It's Williams, not "William!"
DT is a tough position to assess since those guys don't rack up stats to the same extent as some other positions. I am honestly glad to see Maddy get honorable mention even though he missed over half of the season. Still, if he was around all season I have no doubt he would be a 1st teamer.
Am I the only one who thinks we may have one of our best d-lines ever next year? Assuming Maddy comes back 100%, we will be giving quarterbacks nightmares all year.

I'd take Bucky any day of the week over that slow TE from FSU. Not trying to sound like a jerk to Brewer after his tough performance last week, but if Bucky had Jameis throwing to him it wouldn't even be a conversation.

Foster has a slew of LB's to pick from, and a stable of secondary players. Holland Fisher must be ready to burst.

Second, where are Jarrett and Bonner? All they did was play Safety, CB and LB all season. I guess the voters only watched the games where Moto took the wrong gap and made them look bad.

There are a lot of comments in here about Mario Edwards.
I love our defensive line. Love them. But Mario Edwards is pretty sick at what he does. I don't see anything wrong with him being up top of the choices.
