Settle doesn't hasn't announced a decision date, but according to Michael Clark of Scout.com (http://recruiting.scout.com/story/1487805-settle-down-to-four) he is still considering Oklahoma State, USC, Virginia Tech and Washington State.
Settle also said he had a great official visit to USC last weekend. Prior to his USC trip, he took officials to Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech.
Next, he will take an official to Washington State this weekend, which will be his final trip before he makes his decision.
Bud Foster and Torrian Gray made an in-home visit earlier this week.

Wonder how he came up with these finalists. The schools and locations are all so different, just kinda odd looking at it.
I think he wants to visit Washington State because his good friend Adam McClean is, and I'm guessing their academic standards are lower than most.
Also, apparently he has an uncle in Oklahoma, hence OSU.
As for USC, I think/hope he just wanted to go to LA in the wintertime.
Does the Washington State visit go away with Adam committing to UMD?
ummmmmm..........
I mean onestly...
Well, if this isn't love...
You are right about Washington State. They admitted a guy from California who signed with UVA last year but couldn't get admitted to UVA. I think it's the guy Mike London sent the infamous "You" letter to.
are his grades going to be an issue or has he got them sorted out? I've heard for a while that he may not be able to get in here.
Sounds like that is still up in the air. Last I heard there were test scores being waited on. People are not optimistic, though.
That would explain Wazzou in the list, then...OK State I'm guessing as well
Good god him and his dad are big men
If we miss on Tim, does anyone know if his dad has any eligibility left?
he can be the new Durkin Sr.
I will never forget hanging out in the parking lot with Bryant McKinney's father after the 2001 Miami game. His arms were enormous. Looked like he could play a good d-tackle even then.
IMO we should be concerned with the following:
USC: Rich history of putting guys in the pros + LA
Wazzu: Mike Leach is a pirate
OkieSt: T. Boone
USC has me legitimately concerned the other two? Not so much. *Fingers crossed*
Mike Leach might get fired soon, he's had a rough go of it in Pullman
With Connor Halliday, he was going to set offensive records, and did in some cases. Regardless of wins, the reason he was hired, his offensive system, was working. It's the defense that needs tooled there.
I know when Arizona interviewed Leach he was asking for about $200k more than Rich Rod and I'm pretty sure Rich Rod makes more than $2m per...at a school like WSU with that kind of salary I'd expect they want results. that program has been the dumpster fire of the Pac-12 (er, other than Colorado) since he joined it. Three years and not a lot of wins, the Pac-12 TV contract is pretty hefty but the program is not moving in the right direction from what I've seen of them (and I live in Pac-12 country).
He's getting far worse results than he was at Texas Tech, granted it's tough to recruit in Pullman. And if you thought Blacksburg is a tough place to recruit at (I personally don't subscribe to this, and not because of the small-town appeal blacksburg provides), take a visit to Pullman sometime. Granted, Lubbock is not an easy place to draw recruits but at least he's got the direct Texas pipeline there. The state of Washington doesn't produce that many great recruits, WSU usually has to rely on JUCO transfers and hope to get some leftovers from California
Why? Does Craig James have another son playing there?
I can't see him getting fired this year because he had took them to their first bowl game since 2003 in 2013. Plus let's face it, who else Washington State going to hire? I think he's a good fit honestly.
I believe the term your looking for is that he "might be forced to walk the plank."
Can someone explain the issue with his grades?
We need to get him committed, signed, and on campus to spend QT with our senior DT's next season. Maddy and Marshall will show him the ropes.
I think the rumors are that he's had issues with grades in HS and may not qualify to play at Tech.
We need Tim. We gotta get more depth on our D-line next year. We might be looking at the best starting D-line in the programs history this coming year but if we have some injuries it could go downhill very quickly.
Whitehead looks like he will be visiting Minnesota as well. Our DT depth is a concern.
Josh Nijman said he would prefer we recruit him as a DT instead of an OT. Hopefully we follow up on that.
I don't think Nijman is a DT in any system, but particularly in our system. We may recruit him as such, but to me he's exactly like Wyatt Teller... Which I'm guessing is what Miami is telling him, even though we haven't. If Miami wants him to play out of position so he can rush the passer a few times a game be my guest, but I don't see it.
Agree. His film has OL written all over it.
Love the t-shirt.
"Popular Demand".
Haha. You go, dude.
And no shoes. Looks comfotable around the staff.
USCw or USCe?
The condom not the Cocks
How have I never seen it put that way before?
Dude I was sitting here reading Jander's comment and it just came to me.
After mulling it over, I think, both.
Great comment, spit my drink on that one. I would give you legs but if I could
I'll do it for you. One for you also.
Wish it was just spitting my drink. Try hot tea up your nose sometime. That sucks vigorously! And same with the legs - would if I could.
This may have to go in the Comment Hall of Fame.
My dad was in the Stanford band back in the day, and still enjoys referring to USC's musicians as the "rubber band," for obvious reasons.
that's hillarious. i bet he's got some stories.
Oh my goodness, yes. If you think the Stanford band is crazy now, just imagine them in the 70's.
Also looks like Tim is the only one adhering to Mom's "No shoes on in the house, dammit." rule.
I didnt know Bud & Torrian could look so fly on their home visits. A+ for style.
I saw Torrian at a high school game and he was looking stylish there!
We're calling pleated pants "fly" now?
From what I've heard, it will be impossible for him to make it in grades-wise and will have to prep a year. Just have to hope he commits and then stays committed.
I don't see him prepping. If we can't get him in academically he will commit elsewhere.
10,000 legs... Very impressive. Congrats!
whoops, looks like he's back down to 9,999...
If I were you I would make some obnoxious comments to balance out your good posts....try and keep your legs at 10k even for eternity....it just looks really cool.
It's not a VT thing, it's an NCAA thing.
No, it's definitely a school thing. Each school has its own standards for being accepted; the NCAA can't tell a school it is or is not allowed to offer admission to anyone.
Depends on if the issues with admission are through VT or the NCAA clearinghouse
yup to be eligible by the NCAA you have to have a 2.0 or higher and score a 900 or above on SAT..... the biggest issue as stated above is the schools requirements... some schools budge for athletes (SEC big10 and MAC)
Where are you hearing it's a VT Thing? What I've read indicates he is/was in danger of having to prep. As in an NCAA problem.
Name me one player who met the NCAA Clearinghouse's Grade/Score/Curriculum requirements, and VT's curriculum requirements but was not admitted because their GPA and/or test scores were too low.
I wasn't thinking in terms of the clearinghouse; that could well be it, but with so much talk of other schools taking him, I long ago assumed (perhaps wrongly) that it wasn't at that level. I don't pay attention to rumors of kids' grades, but when the talk is that VT might not accept him, but other schools will, that's all I have to go on. If I'm wrong, my mistake.
Bobby Massie. Was told he wouldn't make it into VT- kid had really, really terrible grades as I recall- and subsequently flipped to Ole Miss and bad mouthed VT to everyone who would listen.
We've been eliminated by others or had kids that were prepping end up at other NCAA schools because of academics. Not saying that it limits VT more than other schools or that our academic rigor is superior, but most ACC schools have requirements that some other schools do not regarding GPA, test scores, or classes taken. There's a reason that some schools, namely Ole Miss, WVU, and Marshall, have reputations for allowing anyone in.
Settle looking at Washington State may indicate that he is close to qualifying but on the borderline... or we're all just reading way too much into things.
A meaningful # of ECU's players wanted to play for acc teams but couldn't qualify academically. They feeling of being "dissed" is a large part of the reason that they get so fired up when playing VA, NC & SC schools in the acc or sec.
Cequan Jefferson. He was originally a 2013 commit for us and then had to prep and was planning on enrolling this past January. He ended up enrolling at Temple in January instead.
It is in the comment section of this:
http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2014/january/17/cequan-jefferson-headi...
Kevin Dubouse, 2001 WVU signee and one-time VT commit. Loved VT. Injured his leg during 2000 season and I twice saw him hobbling around on crutches at VT during games. Wanted to be a Hokie, couldn't get in.
D.J. Thomas from Patrick Henry a few years ago is another guy. Had a cup of coffee at WVU.
The one that pains me is Knowshon Moreno. He loved his recruiter (I think it was Kevin ______, the QB coach) and was ready to commit until on the eve of his commitment, he found out he had to take an extra math class in summer school. He, of course, committed to UGA. (We also lost Shady McCoy that recruiting cycle for a similar problem)
If I recall correctly, at VT, you need to take the equivalent of Algebra 2 to get in. Not just basic Algebra. That's a math course that many don't have to take. At least that was the explanation for the Moreno snafu.
Kevin Rogers.
Sad, but great points about Knowshon and Shady. That story always seems to pop-up in conversation during these moments of potential academic issues.
yep, the math class has caught us up a couple times. I'm looking for specific situations where GPA/Test scores were the problem. As in they met the NCAA Clearinghouse guidelines and they had the math class (and other core classes) but VT admissions rejected them.
Some of those listed above could have been situations like that but I guess it's difficult to get specifics on academic/qualificaiton issues since it's generally considered rude to discuss a prospect's academic situation in detail.
This sounds like a bad luck Brian meme: Major interest from 4 star, third best lineman in the state...isn't even academically eligible. This blows...chunks
P.S. I've said it before, but killer signature. That's sick

He's improved a lot this year in the classroom, but a prep year is still very much a possibility.
lets not get too far ahead of ourselves guys, lets stay positive, he obviously has some sort of interest in us, so that would lead me to have some hope, he's in state, lets just see how it plays out first
Of those choices, you would have to say we have the best shot. I would think Washington St would be out, Ok St still hanging in there because of a relative Ive heard? USC is a nice place I'm sure, but thats a long way to go. He seems to have enjoyed his trips to VT, and he has made several. He has a good relationship with the staff, the grades or scores are the only issue. If we go 2/2 with him and Sweat that would be awesome. No one had us in the running for Settle when this thing got started.
Seems as if Stroman is working on him too (highschool teammates)
If we get Settle and Sweat...

I may have to buy one of these shirts
both stroman and settle are smart kids listening to them, they can get their grades up if they really want to enroll at tech.
Stroman is already at Tech.
He is indeed at VT, and demonstrating tremendous speed.
He is so fast, he apparently cannot be seen by the naked eye.
I don't believe it has been mentioned, Settle changed his announcement date to Jan 2nd per his twitter.
Not that I don't believe you do you have a link to the tweet?
Well consider me #turntup
Woohoo!! More waiting!
Turnup!?! He is going to shock everyone and go to GT! MASS HYSTERIA AND MAYHAM!
Any of our commits attending the Under Armour game that can get in some last minute recruiting for us?
Not currently, but it's very possible that someone may commit to VT in the morning at 10 that will be at the game.
Mmmm. Turnips.
