Derrick Green Commits to Michigan

The top rated running back in the nation, no. 8 overall recruit for 2013 has committed to the University of Michigan. Green is a product of Hermitage High School in here in Richmnd and listed as the second best player in the state. He did have an offer from both Virginia and Virginia Teh, but verbally committed to Michigan today. Some here had a sliver of hope he'd stay in state. However, a crowded backfield of young talent here and the commitment of Tiquan Mizzell to Virginia probably helped his decision to go elsewhere. Best of luck to him!

Sorry

Typed this up on my phone. I apologize for the egregious errors.

Ouch..

Maturity issues or not it hurts when the number 1 running back in the country is in your own back yard and you can't pull him. Looks like a day 1 contributor.

Win one for the Beamer...

can't say I didn't see this coming..

ah well, would've been nice to have him in the backfield, but we'll be fine. best of luck to him.

Honestly, he's seemed like he was set on Michigan for a while now. And I think we'll find we're better off without him.

agreed

I feel like this guy would not have been a good fit for us. His play for his age is ridiculous and I would have loved him in the backfield. It's just a hunch but I feel like we dodged a bullet there. I wish him and Michigan well though.

I'd rather us get a commitment from Da’Shawn Hand next year, than worry about the HBs.

Well...

Do we have a better chance of getting him than the other? I saw where he was highly interested in Albama (of course), Michigan (of course), South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tech... But with the extreme recruits coming into Michigan and Alabama already this year I don't see why he'd want to go there. I see this kid staying close to home.

He says he wants to study engineering and academics are very important to him

I've heard Michigan is a pretty good school and North Carolina supposedly isn't too bad either.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Tech is a top 15 engineering school, dunno about Michigan and North Carolina

Michigan is a top 5 engineering school

UNC is more along the lines of what UVA specializes in.

Pretty sure I saw that he was interested in Civil. Tech is 9th and Michigan is 8th. Pretty even playing field. And as mentioned before tech's building construction major could offer him a happy middle ground.

Somewhere between something interesting and free time

I wonder how long it has been since we had a scholarship player graduate from the College of Engineering... doesn't seem feasible. I couldn't imagine adding a varsity sport to the schedule I had for 4 years.

He is not someone we needed

I can now say without any regrets I have a good source at Hermitage who had very negative things to say about Green as a person

Really now?

The kid seems like a complete thug, even worse than Ru.

Ru a thug?

I met Ru at a couple parties. Extremely nice guy.

This. He's very chill. I also remember RMFW34 looking giddy on the sidelines after we trounced uva in 09. It was priceless

The worst thing I ever heard about Ryan Williams was that he really struggled with the playbook and pass protection his true freshman year, and then grew up a ton.

Dumb Question

Who is Ru? Keep hearing it, but I don't get who it's referring to.

Ru

Ryan Williams

Thanks, and yeah, I can't see him being a "thug" either.

^clearly knows nothing about ryan williams...

You mean the same Ru that gave all of his linemen a big hug during the Chick-Fil-A bowl after he set the single season rushing yards record?

He's a good kid.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Maybe he should've said "even worse than Marcus Vick"......
