Hokies Buzzketball on the Rise? This Duke writer sure thinks so!

All of us can attest that the Hokies have been going through some growing pains this season. This oft-overmatched team has played their hearts out only to see many winnable games slip away due to their own correctable mistakes. I know it has been said a lot, that Buzz is laying a great foundation for the future, but it's nice to hear the same opinion being echoed by someone who can't be mistaken for having Orange and Maroon Glasses on. I definitely hope this guy is right and in a couple years we knock off his Blue Devils in the ACC Tournament Final...

There's also a nice tribute to Dean Smith about 2/3rds of the way through the article that's also worth the read.

love that sentiment but such a poorly researched article

This is a team which earlier, remember, lost to Appalachian State, to Penn State, and which nearly lost to Radford.

ugh, we lost to Radford

but we bet you've never heard much from Christian Beyer, Zach LeDay or Greg Donlon

that's partly cause LeDay has to sit out this year and Donlon has played zero minutes all year

VT CEE Class of 2016/2017

5 years, 2 degrees, 33 football games as a student, and 2 Cassell court stormings later, I bleed Maroon and Orange

Not to mention the mysterious 'Justin Bibb'.

I saw this article earlier today. I was pleasantly surprised at the positive light in which this writer chose to cast our program, but all I could think of is how terribly researched it was.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Greg Donlon chose to take a redshirt this year. I heard he is hoping to get into coaching so is trying to be around the team for as long as possible to learn as much as possible.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

If he is redshirting, I wonder why he dresses for the games. Emergencies?

I remember Buzz saying he wasn't planning on redshirting anyone, and I feel like he did play in at least the first couple games. If he is around next year, and is actually redshirting, then yes, he's dressed for emergencies.

I hope they are right, next year should see this team have much more talent and hopefully the same heart and energy. The team is turning is the tough performances now so they can get to the easy wins next year.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

The sweater thinks so too.

Despite the above mentioned inaccuracies, I like the tone. The wins still may not be so easy next year, but I have faith that they will come. And that sweater does deserve daily mention, I'll agree.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

but by this time next year - we'll eat our keyboard if this isn't true - Virginia Tech is going to be a major pain in the ass for everyone in the ACC.

God I hope so

We're already a nuisance in most games, add Clarke, Blackshear, Allen, and a few other players to that. All of the sudden we're dangerous.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

He refers to both schools as "Tech"

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Great article and awesome to hear that from another school. I really enjoyed reading it, despite all the picky little inaccuracies that you all pointed out in this thread.

Good topic, pretty poor writing job. Inaccurate standings table. Poorly researched schedule and player information. Beyer has been a staple of this team for the last month. Consistently spelled Mueller's english name wrong. Spelling Bibbs wrong once. Was there no proof read?

Yeah, the article has inconsistencies with the details, but the overall point is sound.

We have a team right now that is playing its nuts off for the guy in charge. Earlier in the year, we couldn't beat the likes of Penn St, App St, and Radford, got smoked by WVU... and now, we're a program that is managing to stay in games we have absolutely no business being in due to numerous errors. Our inside game is practically non-existent from an offensive standpoint, and yet we've been in seemingly every game we've played since that loss to WVU. A little more experience for these kids, with the game slowing down just a bit for them, and the recruiting class coming in that we have with the likes of Seth Allen ready to play, and this team has a bunch of potential.

I really have a strong feeling that next year will be an awakening of sorts for VT basketball. Once this team clicks, DBR is right... we are going to be a major pain in the ass for everyone in this conference, and once all the recruits start to take notice, things will only get better from there.
