Today the renewal and new season ticket requests start. Who is getting season tickets? Who can offer advice about getting tickets and going to the games? Does anyone travel over 5 hours like I would have to to go to games?

This is a new experience for me as well, but I just submitted my application for season tickets. I live in DC, so it'll be a trek for each game. I am not delusional enough to think I'll be able to make it to every game, though. I also keep wanting to buy more tailgating gear, but the GF keeps reminding me that we do not have room to store it.
I bet there is plenty of room in her closet!
Haha, she actually does not have a closet. I had to build her a "closet" out of a nook in our bedroom. There is a part of the room that extends over the staircase, so I put in a rod and shelf for her.
We live in the city, so we do have limited area for storage.
Well then clearly you need to rent a storage unit for all you tailgating stuff

This'll be my first year applying as well, although it seems I have to wait for others to renew before I have a crack at it. Can anyone that's done it before mention how difficult it is to get into the section of the stands you want? I've attended several games in West, and frankly the experience is ruined it if I have to sit the whole time and watch how loudly I cheer. Is getting East a done deal if you ask for it or is it all a toss-up?
Anyone know when the athletic department is sending OSU ticket info?
When they find out how many tickets are still available after season tickets are sold, so hopefully never.
Pretty sure they hoping for an increase in season ticket sales from last year. For most of the last 15 years, the season ticket holders have snapped up all available tickets other than those reserved for staff, students, and visiting teams.
For the last four years in a row, season ticket sales have been less than full allotment. For at least three of those four years, you haven't even had to be a Hokie Club member to buy season tickets for football.
Now that Whit has had a full season to implement some of his directives, it might be different this season, though I would imagine they would be thrilled to actually sell the full amount of season tickets.
Saw where they have gotten responses in 4 days what took 20 days last year.
I am tempted to buy season tickets just to make sure I have a ticket for the OSU game. I am thinking I could sell the rest for less than face value and still be cheaper than buying an ticket for OSU on stubhub.

Buying tickets on Stub Hub is rarely worth the cost.
I was tempted to buy season tickets and sell OSU to pay for most of the other games.
I already renewed my season tickets (4) for the coming year. Cost is $350 per seat this year and they have also increased the season parking pass to $90.
I always sit/stand and scream on the west side, section 18. I much prefer standing in the shade to baking in the sun on the east side. I have never been asked to sit or heard comments that I cheer to loudly in 10 years on the west side.
I was considering buying seasons to guarantee a seat to the OSU game, but the extra donation on top of the season price is a deterrent. I was basically hoping to sell off the other tickets at less than face value and make out better than stubhub. That and the seats would be in the top of the south Endzone. I would rather pay $300 a piece in the East or West than sit at the top of the south.
You only need to be a member 100 dollars, you can divide that up into months payments.
I am a HC member, two years running now. The email I received looked like tickets would be $350 plus a minimum of $200 donation so basically 550 for the season tickets. Am I wrong or are you saying that is true but they will let me spread out the extra $200 over the year.
Yea sorry I ws doing the math for one ticket. But yes if you join the Hokie Club, which I recommended to any Hokie fan, you can divide your payments up into monthly payments. Call the Hokie Club and ticket office tomorrow. They are really good about answering questions fast.
Based on the last couple of years of low ticket sales you might be able to get in with no donation. Now those tickets are probably in the corner of the east stands at the very top but you should be able to get them.
Finally got home to open email fully and log in. Don't know how they have done it in years past but I'm impressed. I have the name and number of "my ticket representative" I also have a photoshopped picture with my last name over a team locker. Now since I haven't been to Lane since 97, I'm not sure of the seating and best/worst places to sit in picking my seats. Also torn on the 6-7 hour each way drive to see the games.

Just renewed mine, and I have some thoughts.
I think we all (well most) agree the program is heading in a positive direction, but why the fuck did ticket prices go up after we barely had a winning season? I saw the $350/ticket and thought there were 7 home games at $50/ticket. Same as last year. No biggie. Looked at the schedule again and it's only 6. WTF? I was going to finally join the Hokie Club this year because I thought I could finally afford it. I have been only a season ticket holder for years. But, NOPE.
Better coaches salaries, better home schedule, better facilities all cost money.
I'll concede the other two, but better home schedule? Other than OSU, how's it better? I get all that costs money, but raising prices after the past 2 seasons? I dunno. I could be completely off base. Had myself a day and I was looking forward to coming home, renewing and joining the Hokie Club. The whole thing threw me off on my already stellar day. Needed to vent.
I'd say having anOSU at home as the defending NC boosts the schedule by itself. Willing to bet those tickets go for 200-500 on the secondary market.
That would be correct, they are going to sell big on secondary market! In other news I just renewed our 4 season tickets!!!!!!! Proud supporter here!
It is also due to the fact that Whit is expecting to sell a sizable amount of season tickets to non-HC members after the HC members get theirs. And, it is reasonable to think that OSU alone is worth the extra $50.
I know anOSU fans will be buying some season tickets, just to get that one game.
It's what the wife and I have been discussing.
Face Value for tickets is almost $55 with processing fees and such, so really, it's only $20 more than face value for guaranteed seats in the same spot. They may have even gone up to more than $55 which makes them at that face value.
Instead of hiking the price for one game they distributed the cost over every game for season tickets. OSU does the opposite where the cost of tickets for the big games are just 50% higher than the regular price
Just to give my experiences, my wife and I have season tickets to both VT and South Carolina (she's a grad) so we have an agreement to go to 3 games for each team, each year. We've been doing it for about 4 years now and just sell the tickets that we don't use. We always just sell at face value and have had no problems unloading the extra tickets. It works for us, expensive up front but selling the extra tickets does help pay for some nights in hotels for other games.
There are a couple of things that I think USCe does right that VT could learn from. First, USCe tickets cost more for SEC games and far less for lesser opponents. The SEC games are ridiculous at around $70 for the big ones but the South Alabamas and Furmans of the World are around $25-30 a seat. Makes it easier to sell those tickets AND for people with young kids, etc. that want to experience a game, its the way to go. Also, USCe does donations a bit differently. You join the club (like Hokie club) and of course there are various levels of giving. The points you've accrued determine on what day you can choose your seats. Once that day comes, you pick your seats and depending on what section you choose, there is a 'seat donation' tacked on to your season ticket price. I like the flexibility it gives you so in the years when Clemson comes to town, maybe you spring for better seats. At Tech, you donate what you can and every few years the seats shuffle based on where your accrued points stack up against others, its just not as transparent.
It works perfectly that we get UVA at home on years when USCe plays at Clemson, and vice versa. Side note: I never worry much about divorce but if USCe and VT ever play it becomes a real possibility.

Supposedly VT will use a computer program to do the "seat choice" this year. There will be a log in and the ticket holder can go in and choose what seat they want based on what's available.

There has been a annual log in and select your seats every year for the last couple. Now because you pick in priority a lot of people won't get a chance to get better seats, but for example last year I moved from XX to SS in the same section.
Also, there are parts of the stadium where if you select a seat there is an upcharge per seat. Mostly these seats are in the South End Zone and middle of the West Side.
One of the best perks of being a student is missing the drive to the game and then back to Chesapeake on game day. Been doing it all my life but man I enjoy sleeping in past 4:30 am on game day
I live in North Myrtle Beach the drive is about 5 1/2hrs just depends on traffic around W/S with improvements to future I74 and 52 very good roads and pleasant drive. For early games we go up on Friday afternoon and stay around Wythville and for late games we stay over again around Wythville. I suggest Hokie Fireman get a parking pass if you qualify makes parking a lesser problem plus you make new friends for tailgating,
Welcome fellow grand strand Hokie to TKP. Have a leg thanks for advice, unfortunately with 2 young children at home and another due in June staying overnight except for maybe the anOSU game is not a good option. What route do you drive up?
From NMB we go rt9 get on 701 for about 8miles to 410 to Chadbourn take future I 74W to Rockingham get on rt220 north of Ashboro you will take I 74W to Winston Salem at High Point I 74 turns to 311 which runs into I 40W follow for about 3mles then take rt 52 Mt Airy this will take you to I 77 that connects to I 81 at Wythville then you are only 1/2 hour from Heaven on Earth. All 4 lane plus except 16 miles on rt 410 to Chadbourn. Most speed limits 65 and 70 mph. Going up tailgating and coming back home is to much for an old couple our age to do in one day. I hope this helps and maybe if we both are going solo to a game we can travel together. For those Hokies in the cold don't feel bad we have most of the state of Ohio hibernating in Myrtle Beach this winter almost as bad as WVU fans
I have a question, and since the VT ticket office is closed for the next few days I figured I would ask here.
I have been a HC member for a few years, but for the first time I am buying season tickets. I got my points breakdown from the HC and it had a customer number on it. However, when I got my email on Monday (and my paper application today) it had a different number with a pin. Is this common?

I'm trying to get $1000.00 for my 2 tickets, that pays for my season tickets, mine and my wives cushions put in our seats at the game, and our tickets for the Miami game and then the rest will help for the hotel and flight, I want to see the game but money talks, if OSU wins then hey I made money so it helps the sting, if we win then an OSU fan paid a lot of money to see his team lose again to us so it will be a win win for me, but in all honestly I will probably be at the game haha but I got to see what I can get for these first because they could pay for themselves and the rest of the season for me which would be worth it I believe. Plus me and my wife sit at the end of the row so no inconvenience of having to walk and step over people =D
