The cousins ban outdoor couches

The cousins have apparently been undeterred by mandatory $1000 fines and the potential of 1-3 years in jail for lighting couches and dumpsters on fire, forcing Morganhole to ban all upholstered furniture outdoors.

Morgantown City Manager Jeff Mikorski said the ban is an attempt to stem the number of fires that often spring up after West Virginia University games.

"Over the last 10 years, we've had over 3,000 street fires because of the quick ability to bring furniture from porches and put it into the streets and put them on fire," he said.

That's a lot of street fires.

It's not just a problem in Morgantown...it's the entire state of WV.
I went to college in Beckley and witnessed it there...so good luck to them.
They should just sell these candles.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Blacksburg already has the above discussed law in place to try to prevent this kinda thing, but college students gonna college student.

As a West Virginian (not from Morgantown), it's amazing how similar Blacksburg and the NRV are to home. It's partly why I decided to stay after I graduated.

Nah I got it.

The difference is... a burning couch in Blacksburg is a rare enough event it merits mention in the news. In Morgantown? Not so much

"Fire in Blacksburg? Something epic must have happened?"

"Fire in Morgantown? Yep, it's Thursday."

YES!! I was there from 2003-04. Don't think that place exists anymore.
The Men's basketball team won the NAIA Men's Division I tournament that year.
The school was so small I knew most of all the players. I only went
there for the Forensic Investigation major. At the time it was only one of two
schools in the country that offered it as a major.

@AMB4VT

You're right, the school does not exist anymore! The court they played on still has their logo though at the Beckley Armory, and their championship team's picture is still on the wall!

That's awesome! Such good times. :)

@AMB4VT

Wait a minute! You're Blacksburg CSI?!

Lol no. I realized quickly it was not the field for me.
It was fun as hell studying it for a year. Fascinating field.

@AMB4VT

THEY'RE BURNING THE NICK @ NITE BIG ORANGE SNICK COUCH! THOSE BASTERDS!

I lived for Snick when I was a kid.

One of my favorite WVU quotes, from this article:

"I just can't see it putting a stop to people's desire to burn," Kookan said. "It might hide things to burn, but I feel that if I see someone burning something, I want to be a part of that."

I think that's WVU in a nutshell...

@AMB4VT

I read this quote in Charlie Day's voice

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Is the rest of USA shipping their used couches to WV? holy gap toothed arsonists batman that's a lot of couches getting burned.

This law just means there's going to be so many couch started house fires next year.

I doubt this will stop much of the burning. Many will continue to do it, some will get caught and arrested or fined, but it wont stop their "tradition"

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

They did this as a temporary measure the week before the last VT-WVU Big East game in Morgantown. That's the same game people posted videos of walking through the parking lot wearing VT gear and being screamed and cursed at and had shit thrown at them.

And hell no I'm not going to FedEx to spend time with those fuckos. Worst fan base, and I've got some cousins from Keyser who are all super proud fans.

walking through the parking lot wearing VT gear and being screamed and cursed at and had shit thrown at them.

That describes my 2 visits to Morgantown for the 1997 and 1999 games.

Over the last 10 years, we've had over 3,000 street fires

There are 3,650 days in 10 years.

That's almost one street fire per day in that time span.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

Definitely more street fires than UVA had fans at their spring game.

#math

I think you may have just picked up a WVU degree.

Sorry but if we beat the Buckeyes again, I'm dragging a couch out of my living room onto Patrick Henry Drive, spritzing it with gasoline, and blazing up.

Every second counts

Use kerosine. Gas is too dangerous. I'll be looking for that fire Labor Day night! LET'S GO!!!!
