Sounds like Brewer's arm strength is improving quite a bit. Great news, can't wait for the spring game.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

It's funny how a healthy back, a shoulder in its proper socket, and better timing with his WRs can make a QB's arm look so much stronger.

True:

?!
Like....how much does this kid have to do to impress us?

The beatings Brewer took were tremendous, but as he promised he kept getting back up.
The difference this year is that we have a secret weapon back-up in Motley that is a likely winner as well.

Absolutely true.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

This can only mean VT is Bak!

but I heard that Miami is bak this time for real. Said so on the ACC blog, so it must be true.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

Steven Peoples is going to lock up the backup fullback role and take over when Rogers decides it's time

left that dangling a bit there, HOAT.

When Rogers decides it's time...?

... time to retire to the pros?
... time to pass on the Mighty Rod of Mighty Dorkish Magic?
... time to take a vacation with Chuck Norris and film a documentary of their travels through the Middle East that makes "The Expendables" look like a picnic with the Teletubbies?

Time to save planet earth from alien space invaders?

With will smith, on July 4th?

Sam Rogers doesn't need help

Someone needs to Photoshop Sam Rodgers into an Avengers poster, if they haven't already...

VHokie

Dammit, man!

Nice knowing you. RIP. May Rogers have mercy on your soul.

The Good Book says even He Himself took a day off... but I'd probably go for the vacation with Chuck...

So who is the 2nd string o-line? Osterloh-Redman-T. Smith-Pfaff-Clark?

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

Whoever is healthy , can block at all and doesn't have a redshirt is how I see it at least to start.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Whatever it is today, it'll be completely different by the next scrimmage.

$5 says Nijman gains ~ 35lbs and is in the two deep by September.

For what it's worth, he was taking all the snaps at left tackle with the two's on saturday already.

I'm afraid to ask but how'd he look?

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Exactly how you'd expect, considering it was his first ever scrimmage and he spent most of the time going against the first string defense.

He was clearly still learning the playbook, but Searels (and a Grad Assistant I think?) were spending a lot of one-on-one time with him on the field and on the sideline. I think Searels has high expectations.

$$pancakes$$

Looks like what you'd call a recruiting breakfast at Miami.

I'm a little surprised Searels is kind of throwing him to the wolves like that, just for fear of destroying his confidence. That highlight from practice that showed how frustrated he was getting beaten by Dooley, he's gotta be feeling that in spades right now. Having said that, all the one on one time with Searels hopefully shows Yosh how well regarded he is.

I think also in that video, Searels sensed his frustration and gave him a second crack at Dooley, where he did much better.

Yup. Searels is the right OL coach for us. I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Brewer had 18 Td's and 15 picks last year. This is his 2nd year so we should expect improvement. Plus if he is healthy we should expect even more. Throw in the fact that his young WR's are older and better, and the development of Bucky Hodges...

I would think he could do 25 TD's and 10 picks this year, just as part of the natural progression. (and his health)
What does everyone predict for Brewer this year and what numbers would you find acceptable for him?

VHokie

Personally, I am hoping for 30 TD's and under 6 picks. I think the running game is going to be good enough that our receivers are going to face a lot of man coverage because our opponents are stuffing the box. As a result Cam, Isiah, and Bucky all average 20+ yards per catch.

30:6 TD:INT = #Brewer4Heisman

Seriously that's almost exactly what Mariota did last year (32:6).

Is everyone forgetting that Brewer needs one pick a game to win!

That was the old formula. 2015 is a new formula. Maybe the formula for success this year isn't about Brewer.

That is about +1 more TD per game than our opponents. If we add that to our last years scores, we go 12-1 last year against the same competition.....

And that's how close we were, ladies and gents.

There's a question of priority. Is Brewer more concerned with throwing TDs or not throwing picks? I'm sure more than 25 TDs is attainable for him, and I'm sure fewer than 10 INTs is as well. But he'll miss out on some TDs if he is consciously avoiding throwing picks, and he'll toss a few more INTs if he's pressing to pad his TD passes.

Pulling numbers out of my ass, I'll predict 24 TDs to 12 INTs.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Priority depends largely on situation (trailing or leading) and ability to run the ball. I hope his attempts go down as result of a good running game, which means more play action and fewer risky routes where he has to fit one in to move the sticks on key downs.

Right you are. But those situations (above vs behind) will happen, and yes Brewer will throw more picks if he plays from behind too much. But on top of the situation he's placed in, his numbers will also wiggle a little based on his own risk/reward mindset.

Ultimately what I want is Brewer's mindset from games 5 thru 13 last season with more familiarity with the system and his teammates. Oh, and healthy, too. If we get that, I think Brewer maintains a 2:1 TD to pick ratio.

Hoping for a 24:8 TD:INT ratio, but 20:10 is probably more likely, which would be fine. That's about what Bryan Randall did his senior year. Should be at least a 2:1 ratio overall. Honestly, if he has above 30 (or maybe even 25) touchdowns throwing it probably means we're consistently behind and having to throw to catch up.
