Nicolas has helped bring along Vinny Mihota a little bit lately as the redshirt freshman defensive tackle gets some looks at defensive end.
"Vinny definitely can play defensive end," Nicolas said. "That's where his heart's at, No. 1, so I have a lot of faith in him and what's he's capable of doing."
-- One of McLaughlin's elder statesman roles is to bring along young guys like the recently-moved Yosuah Nijman, who is a week and a half into life as a left tackle.
"He's going to be a phenomenal athlete when he finally gets it down pat," McLaughlin said.
both items are very interesting... I would love for Mihota to blow up at DE and prove that our system can use prototypical size. That being said Nijman may be the next Teller for OL.

Love hearing this, it's great that our elder statesmen are taking the young bucks under their wings. However, when you're talking about Mihota and Nijman, you better have some damn big wings

"We do incentive type things where I may get him a pizza for different things that happened in practice and things like that, and his pizza's been substituted for grilled chicken or salads," Shane said. "It's the thought that counts, I guess. He's a self-starter, so you tell him to lose weight and he kind of takes that up on himself."
Wouldn't a coach buying pizzas for players fall under the impermissible benefit banner or is there an exemption carved out in the rule somewhere? I think Moorehead had the receivers over at his house for dinner a few times and that Exum stayed with Shane for a while. Where is the line on a benefit being permissible/impermissible?

I thought Exum stayed with Shane after his senior year while prepping for the draft. This would have been after his playing days were up. I think players can be given incentive based rewards and there is a cap to such rewards. These are usually reserved for players who get All-something honors but there may not be that much of a restriction.

I really hope we hear Sam Rogers returning to VT to be a coach some day. Kid really puts in a lot of work and effort. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders for a coaching position in the future.

I got fed up with most websites a few months back and all the bloated crap on many pages. If you're using Chrome, go into Content Settings and choose "click to play" on plugins. You can whitelist certain sites to have things always run (I do that for a few pages). Doing this prevents pesky ads that shout at you from random windows and keeps videos from playing until you want them to. It also speeds up page loads since all the bloat is restricted until you tell it to play. Most browsers also have extensions that manage this kind of stuff.

Whatever VT compliance office says it is.

The sad reality that this kid only has two years left really makes me sad. This kid deserves to be on a good team.
There goes my day
If Sam Rogers isn't a football coach it's because he wanted to do something else.
Andy, thanks for all the blog posts, I read them religiously.
But this autoplay of videos on the roanoke site has really gotten to me. Please make it stop.
Can't. Like everything with our website, I have no say in the matter.
