I took my 11 year old to the Spring Game and he made out nicely. Lots of autographs from players. Bud Foster was signing too. I am not gonna name any names as they said they were told not to give away gear, but my son got a starting receivers gloves. A signed glove from a starting tight end and a skull cap from a running back. The look on my son's face was priceless. We also brought a box of pancakes and my son held them up and yelled "Wyatt"!!!! Wyatt Teller turned around and yelled to the rest of the O-line "Hey some kid brought me a box of pancakes!"! Sadly he was not out during the autograph session to sign them. It is so awesome that they let kids and adults out on the field at Lane to get autographs and pictures with the players. I talked to Marshawn Williams and he told me his knee is coming along. Also, saw Stiney at PK's that night. lol. Had a burger from Mikes, pizza at Benny's, and Carol Lee do-nuts. Awesome weekend!

Oh man, Mrs BCH and I were fangirling so hard during the meet and greet. We had a spot right in between a group of girls who apparently knew a lot of players and a dad and son (hokiescoot?) getting autographs. It was a good spot, a lot of players stopped right in front of us. I talked to and shook hands with a bunch of the guys. Most of it was, 'good luck, how's the knee?' but I had actual conversations with Facyson, Big Lu and Sam Rogers. That Rogers is a charmer, asked our names, where we were from, where we sit for the games. That guy could run for office one day.
Big Lu and Bucky received hugs from the wife. CJ Reavis told me his Mom didn't like that Vine he made a couple years back with the recruiting letters when I told him how hilarious it was. Mook told me he asked his Dad to not get drunk and post on TKP (lol). Hansen said he was gonna "plant Joey in the ground" come Labor Day, also that he cut Teller's hair. After I complimented Motuapuaka's sleeve I asked him if he was gonna shut Zeke down. He looked at me with a coy smile and said, "Imma try."
When Nijman and Osterloh walked by I was taken back by how massive and solid those guys are. I shook both Caleb and Niman's hands and told them we appreciated them being team players. At the end Bud walked by to get Mihota back in the locker room. I told him, "we're behind you coach, its your job." He looked back at me but didn't respond. We did however make eye contact. I made eye contact with Bud Foster. Be still my beating heart.
On the way out we saw a group of about 40 people standing in a circle in the southwest corner of the stadium. In the middle of the circle was Brewer signing autographs like crazy. There is no way that dude is taller than 5'10. Finally, I didn't hear it because I was talking to Santamaria but my wife said one of the players (she wasn't sure who) said, "Damn, it smells like a bar in this part of the line." That's how we roll bro, that's how we roll.
And lived to tell the tale. Reality is that you're lucky your heart is still beating.

This is more or less how I greeted Exum after the 2012 Spring Game. Smalltalk about his knee and how he was doing, etc. He's a super nice guy, as were all the Hokies I met that day. Sounds like that's still true, which is great to see.
For the most part that's true. However, there are unfortunately exceptions. My girlfriend works for the catering company that does a lot of events and meals for the football team, and there are a few who have a reputation among the servers. Remember kids, the guy who isn't nice to the waiter is not a nice guy.
...better keep her away from Sam Rogers or you're likely to be single.
While Sam will make even Chuck Norris feel inadequate, I think I'll be alright. Sam's a really solid guy (had a couple conversations with him and said girlfriend's family knows his family) and has a girlfriend of his own.
A couple other tidbits about just how awesome Sam is, in addition to his well-documented physical prowess:
1. He's on the Student Hokie Club Leadership Council. Dude cares about getting students involved and seeing the program succeed.
2. Catering servers have noted that he's one of the most polite and friendly guys to come through their lines (remember what I said about the guy who's not nice to the server? Inverse holds true as well).
3. The brother of a friend of mine was having some issues (typical high school stuff, y'know), and Sam was more than happy to take some time over winter break and hang out with the kid and set him straight. Had a big impact on how the kid has interacted with his family since then.
So no, I'm not worried about Sam stealing her from me. He's above such shenanigans.
I'm glad to hear Sam is such a stellar citizen, He's going to be successful in whatever he decides he wants to do with his life,
Sam has a girlfriend?! Stop the presses! Haha I love how much of a legend this guy has become. I swear every time I see him or hear about him I like him more he's like that race for the heisman in the NCAA games...his reputation meter is OFF THE CHARTS

Yeah Facyson told me he felt better than he had in years. He said the toughest part was the mental aspect of the grind of rehab. Having suffered a fairly serious injury myself years ago, I knew exactly how he felt and told him as much. Then I started talking about his first Spring Game and when he picked off Logan I had to look his number up in the program. Told him I was like, "31, Fuh-cy-son. Huh, who's this kid." He thought that was pretty funny.
Well, sounds like there will just be one application fee that you will have to pay for in 5-6 years!
Congrats on the awesome weekend. I remember my first spring game when I was 13. It was awesome- Met a ton of players from the 99 team and was star struck the entire time. One of the coolest memories from my childhood.
Your son will remember those moments forever, which is the best part.

Somedays, living overseas just stinks, especially now at lunchtime. Good to hear that I have some favorites to look forward to next time I get back to VA. Good job sir on raising the kiddos, Hokie parenting done right is truly beautiful.
That's so awesome! I was also in town for the spring game and finally experienced for the first time Carol Lee doughnuts. I've heard nothing but great things from fellow TKPers, and I now understand the hype. Tried like heck to convince my friends to eat lunch at Mike's Grill, but that just never fell through. Glad I'll be able to call Blacksburg home real soon after that visit and that most of the rain held off during the game.
So you're saying your plans for lunch at Mike's fell through?
My kids got too cold at the game and we left shortly after the half. We did see Motley at Macado's afterwards but my little boy was too scared to give him a high-five. They had a really good time during the first half and before the game in the Hokie Village. I guess the pre-trip pic of my youngest and I was up and the HokieVision a couple times at the half but I was down in the concourse trying to warm him up. Good trip overall, we had some fun.
I have a 10 month old son and I can't wait to make trips to games with him.
