ESPN's 2015 Bowl Projections: Virginia Tech to face Missouri or Utah

Considering there hasn't been a regular season college football snap, these' are way too early. However, with that said, would you rather Tech stay local and play an SEC team or travel across the country and play Utah?

I'll take the Belk vs. Missouri. Practically a home game, against an opponent from a conference with more "cred" (because perception fuels offseason chatter, so we might as well be on the right end of that). Also, the Sun Bowl is cursed ground. I still have flashbacks from that one...

Agreed. I'd like a repeat of our 2009 beat down of Tennessee. Plus mizzou is very respectable as a program with the same coaching up underrated players that we do (they have a torrian gray equivalent for their dline)

These articles are fun to look at and talk about, but man they are pointless as hell.

But isn't the point just to have fun?

I think the point is getting ESPN more clicks, and thus more $.

Well, it's not like they pack up their college football section and go home during the off season. They still have to generate content, and post-spring and post-draft that means a number of fluff "way too early" pieces just the be putting something out there.

Yeah, however it's important to remember that a click is a vote, and we the people are the only ones that can stop the great Disney in the sky from turning ESPN into the buzzfeed of sports. This article is fine, but things can devolve very quickly on the internet.

I understand all the reasons why it's better to play closer to home, but I love watching two teams that have never faced each other play for the first time.

Lock it up. I just bought my flight to El Paso.

Man, they must have no faith in FSU. The sun bowl or the Athletic bowl? I didn't really understand how they picked winners of conferences as Clemson was at the Chick-fil-a bowl which usually goes to the loser of the ACCCG I didn't see where or who they had as winning the ACC. OSU back in the playoffs?? There's a hard pick. Fun to read but retarded at the same point. Next week we'll be looking at the way way way to early projections for the 2017 bowls season. Good luck teams!!

I dunno, anOSU might have some trouble with the committee after they drop another one to the hokies to open the season.

The Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl is now a New Year's Six bowl game, and if Clemson is there as ACC champ, I think it's because the Orange Bowl hosts a playoff game this year.

Wow where the heck have I been? Is this new for this coming season?

yeah, that's pretty much how I felt reading that......

How the hell El Paso is a tier one ACC bowl but the Bahamas is a MAC/AAC game. The ACC really needs better bowl cities. I mean El Paso, Shreveport and Detroit?

Strong American Cities & ACC... ahh I see the similiarity they both start with A. Perfect bowl places for that conference. /S

I think we should just skip the season and play the bowl game.

I predict a second win over Michigan in the Russell, but out of the choices given would take Mizoo in Charlotte because - Charlotte is easy for me to get to, and Mizoo is a quality program from the SEC. I still perceive Utah to be a mid major. Though honestly I think Mizoo will finish to high to go to the Belk, and Utah to low to get to the Sunburn.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I don't know about your prediction skills, but I would LOVE that scenario. Your classic two for one revenge game. Hokies would get another shot at Michigan AND Harbaugh.

Leonard. Duh.

This means that there is now a 0.0% chance of VT playing Missouri in the Belk Bowl or Utah in the Sun Bowl.

I see they misspelled "Virginia Tech vs _____ in the Orange Bowl"

Their QC editors really need to improve on that crap

I see you misspelled "college football playoff." Perhaps I might recommend a spell checker.

Orange Bowl is in the playoff this year

Welp. Moving right along, then.

I didn't even read the article because this way to early stuff is beyond ridiculous (just like any preseason rankings), but to answer your good question, I would prefer VT to stay local and play an SEC team rather than travel across country to play Utah. I definitely prefer bowl locations and dates/times that make it easier for VT fans to attend them (like last season's bowl which lots of Hokies attended). Man, I can't believe ESPN is already putting out stupid predictions like this in early May....feels like it's gonna be a long off-season...

The problem I have with stuff like this is that it gains traction and starts to assume status as "common knowledge." These preseason things start to become self fulfilling because they draw focus to certain teams, and artificially prop those teams up earlier in the season. Which also makes it harder for teams who put together a solid body of work over the season to rise. Because this article says OSU, TCU, Auburn, USC/Oregon, those teams will continue to be talked about in the offseason, and will then be focused on through the season. Assuming they do well enough to be in the playoff picture, the greater attention will likely give them a leg up over any other team challenging for a spot in the playoff, even if the other team is actually more deserving.

It's the off-season and they are looking for things to talk about in reference to college football. Last year was a very good example that a team's full body of work will be looked at when picking playoff teams. OSU was left for dead after week 2 and then took an even further hit when VT really started struggling. The fact they made the playoff helps push the "full body of work" argument this year and in future years.

Selfishly I would definitely say Belk bowl vs Missouri. Living in Charlotte that's a no brainer. However, a return trip to the Sun Bowl wouldn't be awful either. With all that said, I'd much prefer see them make it to the ACC Championship game and get an Orange Bowl or better. That type of run is certainly within the realm of possibility.

selfishly I would say National Championship game would sound about right.... Haters gonna hate,

If we aren't in the playoff or another New Years Six bowl, my top choice for a bowl game would be the Music City Bowl, bar none. Would just be a great trip to hang out in Nashville for a few days, go to honky-tonks, drink whiskey, and play against an SEC team. Only about a 6 hour drive from Blacksburg too.

Give us a Florida bowl if we aren't in the playoff game. Warm weather, great destinations, maybe play Michigan State?
