Bill bids farewell to Hokie Nation. It's a great read, as we have all come to love and expect from such an awesome individual.
Now who's cutting all these onions in here?

Laughed at the irony... then got the sads.
Weird. Still not sure what happened there, but it's fixed now. The sads have been quite prevalent all day.
That is funny. Here's the correct link:
Final One
It just had to be UCLA, sign good luck Bill...
It's an awesome opportunity, great fit for Bill, close to his family, etc.
Still, screw Zumwalt.
I know everybody knows the reasons he is leaving, doesn't hurt one damn bit less though.
I....don't know the reason. Why is he leaving?
I am also in the dark...why is he leaving other than getting to the large west coast market?
Most of his family lives there, it's one of the biggest markets in arguably the best communication broadcast cities in the U.S.
It's a tremendous career opportunity.
That's what I've thought but it seems like several people keep hinting there is another reason.
No need to speculate. Take it at face value. Confluence of career and personal opportunity, and all that that may imply, simple as that. Nothing else is germaine. Damn, I'm gonna miss him. What an eloquent goodbye.
Bingo. It's a great fit for him personally and professionally. Not sure there's a bigger media market than LA in the country when it comes to sports broadcasting and UCLA is replacing their second or third legendary/hall of fame-type broadcaster in a row. He's stepping into one of the top jobs in the entire country.
I'm not crying..my eyes have been really dry...and I just cut up some onions...and its really dusty out today...
Yep sure is I think I need to go in the attic and change the air filter for an hour or so
I'm not crying

Lots of good stuff, but I love that he added this at the end:
"Oh, and in case you're wondering, as of this writing (5/11), Virginia Tech has now held the Commonwealth Cup for 3,817 days."
That was an excellent read. We will soon have another great ambassador for Hokie Nation on the West Coast. That can only help.
It won't be the same without him, best wishes to you, Billy
So many great nuggets in this. First though, why is this man being limited to 1,200 words on his final report?! /s
If you haven't watched the video, you should. Direct link here: http://www.hokiesports.com/football/recaps/20150422aaa.html
Anybody know which game he is talking about at UNC? Would love to see that on video.
And what's this beef between Cornell and James Brown?
This would totally rock. "And as my first act as Governor I will be changing our state bird from the Cardinal to the Hokie Bird. Oh, and that school in Cville shall henceforth be officially named lolUVA."
James Brown was the QB for Texas in the 95 Sugar Bowl. He became very familiar with the artificial turf in the Superdome thanks to Cornell's repeated introductions.
awesome thanks
I think the key for him is family. His wife has passed away and he has family in CA. Although he has a huge Hokie family here, a change in scenery might help him deal with things. After 20 years, I still hurt from my father passing, so I can't imagine what it is like to soldier on after my wife passed.
And I'll vote for Bryan Randall for guv, President, or whatever other office he wants. I might even vote twice.
I don't think his wife passed away.
It was Roth's sister and Burnop's wife that both passed away within 6 months of each other.
This is the appropriate response whenever anyone brings up showing Frank the door before he's good and ready.
Seriously...I think a lot of people are quick to forget.
Yep. And these are the experiences that Bill relays that I will miss greatly.
