My wife and I made the 16 hour drive to SC and back to VA for vacation last week, and I have had nightmares ever since. We poured through nearly every college FB podcast available (we are in full blown withdrawal of college pig skin). We primarily listened to Solid Verbal for the first time, which was entertaining, but ridiculously brain dead compared to what can be learned on TKP (sorry can't read and drive). On the trip home we had already been through ~10 episodes, which led us to the most recent.
Around minute 35 caused me great concern. The discussion turned to Kiffin and whether he may want to leave in the next few years and make a move again. In addition, where he could land and who may be looking around the same time. Finally, how programs sometimes try to go the complete opposite direction after a long tenured coach departs (if you have heard the lead up to the VT suggestion it is kind of bone chilling). During the entire 25 second set up my wife laughed as I repeatedly said, "do not say it, do not say it." Long story short, I have tremendous respect and trust for / in Whit, but am hoping for reassurance that we wouldn't make this move.
Not meant as an indigtment of Kiffin; there are coaches that say he is exceptionally smart / talented. However, I don't see the fit whatsoever, and wanted to make sure my bearings are aligned with the smarter group around TKP. I am, and will always be, a firm proponent of giving Bud a shot at HC if he wants it.

Kiffin is an awful head coach, incredible coordinator, but terrible head coach. That said, I dont think you guys would have to worry. He likes high profile, and warm. Hes a California guy, obviously wont go to USC, but look for somewhere like Florida after McElwain flops.

And then he, Kiffin, flops again. In my mind, he's kinda on the same level as a WVU couch burner/bus rocker (not to be confused with WVU the school and the great people of West Virginia). No love or admiration for his smirky, smarmy face from this member of Hokie Nation.
Never going to happen. Instead let's focus on solving real world issues, like the conundrum of how to entertain oneself on the drive. you made the correct choice to not read TKP while driving, well done, yet you say your wife just listened to 16 hours of football podcasts! that means your wife loves football, very well done. so your answer is right in front of you, next time ask your wife to read TKP aloud to you. done and done.
Unfortunetly, my wife is born and raised OSU; did I leave that out? Damn, I always forget that part, oh well I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

I couldn't see Lane Kiffin coming to VT after stints at Tenn, USC, and now Alabama. As far as exposure goes, it would be taking a step backwards, and he doesn't seem the type.
Also, he's shown to be a bad head coach. The guy can get recruits and run a good offense though, I tell you hwat.
Kiffen, is a bust as a head coach , has a smarmy , superior better than you attitude, is overbearing and has illusions of self grandeur and can fool recruits . Sounds like a perfect fit and hire to replace time cop at the new "u".

I have said it before and I'll say it again..... I have watched over 20 years of VT football and the bowl game vs. Tennessee with Kiffin as head coach was the most poorly prepared team I have seen VT face. Yes, that includes VT-UVA games.
That's a good point. I remember reading interviews with their players before the game and they were talking about how much option we ran and how our D was good, but they played better than the SEC. I felt pretty good about the game after that.

I was listening to the solid verbal on the way to work two days ago. I'm also a big Spencer Hall fan. When he did that build up, I knew it was going to be either UVA or VT. I just kept saying to myself, "please say UVA, please say UVA!" Then he said VT. Alone, in a car, at a red light, I just yelled at the top of my lungs NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Then Ryan Nani suggested Miami, and everyone agreed that Kiffin would be a better fit there because:

Oh I disagree... Would love him to be the next head coach of UVa... Keeping him close to us helps keep those close to us down.
I don't want him at UVA because he'd get better talent at UVA which would hurt us from a recruiting standpoint. I hope they keep London - always better with the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Yeah but the shine is starting to wear off with London - he won't get all the big recruits like he used to (or, at least, not as much).
Is he really that great of a recruiter? I don't recall him killing it in his very short stint at Tennessee and anybody could look like a great recruiter at USC. Limited scholarships may have left him at an overall disadvantage talent-wise, but a limited number of schollies also means less competition for incoming recruits and being even more selective in who you take.
And Alabama? Anybody can recruit at Alabama, yet for the 2nd straight year the Bama QB situation appears well south of optimal.
He seems to be. The real problem with him being hired by a school we would face is that Ed Orgeron, perhaps the country's best recruiter, seems to join him.
He got some decent talent when he was in UT, and don't overlook the sell at USC. You have to be more selective, but that doesn't mean that those talented kids will select them based on limited schollys - just look at Penn State.
How goes that old saying? Keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer.

I'd have to disagree. Wit will hire whoever he feels is best for the program. I don't think he cares about who the fans PERCEIVE as the best hire, nearly as much as who he thinks will put us in the best position to help our W-L record. HOPEFULLY they are one in the same.
Fans are donors, donors give money, Whit needs money to further help the athletic department. He has to account for the fan perspective in some aspect. If he hires a coach who everyone hates and then that coach blows it, or leaves early (as Kiffin has already done before), he is not going to get much money going forward.

I am pretty sure that Beamer will have some say in who his successor is. After seeing how Kiffin operates in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, I highly doubt that Beamer would endorse such a selection. And Whit is smart enough to know that Beamer's endorsement of the next coach is crucial after Beamer steps down.
Especially since Beamer will hold the title of Associate VP for Football Operations, or some such thing.

I'm not a kiffin fan by any means, but if you don't think he'll take away some solid lessons from saban in his years there not sure what to say. My biggest concern with him other than his lack of success at a blue blood school (USC) would be around getting VT into probation over recruiting.
