CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — University of North Carolina senior cornerback Malik Simmons has been suspended from all team activities indefinitely following an arrest early Wednesday morning. It is the second arrest for Simmons this year.
Simmons was arrested a 1:46 a.m. Wednesday on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest. He was released on a $1,000 secured bond and is due in court Tuesday. The arrest report indicated that Simmons, 21, was under the influence at the time of the incident...

I wonder how Chizik will adjust after this? It's a good thing they have a lot of strength on their offense, because that defense needs all the help it can get.

this particular situation aside, I think it's funny that someone could be arrested for resisting arrest (and that's the only charge). Sounds like something from an Abbott and Costello bit.

Because you charge them with highest charge, I'm going to arrest you for "Drunk in public" you resist and I'm charging you with resisting. I'm going to write you a ticket and you tear that ticket up or refuse to to sign it then it's resisting.

In Virginia (can't speak to other states) you are signing the ticket to agree to come to court or pay the ticket, refusing to sign said ticket AND ripping it up or doing something else like rolling up your window is resisting arrest. Just refusing to sign it COULD result in your arrest because you are basically saying "I don't intent to appear in court or pay this ticket". A ticket is option in lieu of arrest, you can be arrested for anything you are given a ticket for technically.
Ugh this sounds like he was drunk and they tried to arrest him and he didn't want to get arrested.
If he hit a cop, sure, bad call, dude. If he got a little too drunk and laughed a little too loud, then to hell with this, let him go.

Sounds bogus, except for the fact that it's his second arrest. Knowing what we know about UNC and their shady tactics, it's like FSU and hard work to get arrested or charged over there so chances are it was serious on the initial call.
Well, when a player from UNC gets arrested, at least you know it won't be for something like stealing books.
