ESPN College GameDay, the Four Letter's long running, traveling college football pregame show, will open up for the second straight season in Fort Worth, Texas for the Alabama–Wisconsin game. Virginia Tech and ESPN Sr. Director of PR, Keri Potts tweeted that GameDay would travel to Blacksburg on Labor Day for Virginia Tech's nighttime showdown against Ohio State.
Announced here @cfbhall : @CollegeGameDay will open season at Ft. worth in @sundancesquare and continue on to #VaTech that Monday.— Keri Potts (@MsPotts_ESPN) August 3, 2015
Guess who's visiting #SACKSburg on Sept. 7?
Prepare your #GamedaySigns

Don't worry, @VT_Football -- we didn't forget about you because it's on Monday. We'll be in Blacksburg this Labor Day for Ohio State!— College GameDay (@CollegeGameDay) August 3, 2015
Both Virginia Tech and ESPN provided more specific details after the initial tweets.
According to the ESPN release, ESPN will broadcast an hour-long pregame show, and this will not be a traditional GameDay broadcast.
Davis, Howard and Pollack will make an additional stop in Blacksburg, Va., for College Football Countdown on Monday, Sept. 7, in advance of a special edition of ESPN College Football presented by Capital One telecast featuring Virginia Tech vs. defending National Champions and No. 1 Ohio State at 8 p.m. The trio will be onsite for pre-game, halftime and post-game reporting, beginning at 7 p.m.
Potts provided further clarification.
@thekeyplay @CollegeGameDay the latter— Keri Potts (@MsPotts_ESPN) August 3, 2015
A release from the Virginia Tech athletic department indicated ESPN will broadcast a special Monday edition of its College GameDay pregame show live from the Virginia Tech campus on September 7.
According to Tech, this will be the seventh time the GameDay crew will be in Blacksburg. The last visit happened September 1, 2007 for Tech's season-opening game against East Carolina. The other times include twice in 1999 and 2005, and a single visit in 2000.
At ACC Kickoff, Frank Beamer said the Hokies–Buckeyes matchup is the, "most anticipated game ever".

Comments
Well they're comin..... TO OUR CITAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
Awesome! I mean, I figured they'd open the season elsewhere, but, come on, it had to be a given that they weren't missing this game. No way that was gonna happen.
Prepare your signs, folks. Also - someone go find the ashes of Corso's toasted rental car and stir them up.
Ok, some Hokie, when they see Desmond, needs to yell "Hey, Desmond, Michigan sucks"
I'm glad this game is getting highlighted, it's great for both schools and programs.
Guess we can then find out if he wears his super bowl ring on his middle finger
THE HYPE TRAIN CONTINUES TO GAIN MOMENTUM.
YOU CANNOT STOP THE HYPE TRAIN.
EDIT: THE HYPE TRAIN DESERVES ALL CAPS.
It will stop and let off it's passengers in Blacksburg on Sept. 7th though right?! I knew I should have never jumped on this train.
CHOOO CHOOO BITCHES!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Whooo hoooooo!!! :)
At first I wondered why you'd post a gif of Spartan band, but I'm afraid I'll have to give that a leg, as it does capture a very specific emotion. I'd like to send her an Orange Effect T-shirt.
She has a lot of school spirit in her. Or satan's, it is hard to tell from the gif.
No it's not.
I am not even going to say what I am thinking about this chick.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better...
Of course, what I really want is a Virginia Tech win that day.
OSU can have the day, I want VT to win the night.
No goddammit, we must beat them at tailgating and halftime as well.
Considering they had cops writing people up for drinking at a tailgate, I don't think that'll be too hard.
And I had to teach multiple people how cornhole worked.
they didn't call it "Bags" did they?
That's what they called it at the University of Illinois when I was in grad school. Confused the hell out of me when people were discussing tailgate preparations.
Person A: "I'll be in charge of bags."
Person B: "Awesome!"
Me: "That's...helpful?"
I remember people calling it 'squash' a few years back.
No, they had never seen the game before. Like, ever.
At anOSU? That's shocking I tailgated there during 08,09 seasons and everyone had cod hole setups some really nice custom ones.
Yeah, we got out in the closest cash lot to the stadium early, around 10:30 or so. After setting up I looked around, and saw nothing but VT fans. I couldn't figure it out. Where were all the Buckeyes? I started paying attention as their fans arrived in the lot and about 95% of them parked their car, got right out, and walked towards the stadium (either to that big ass outdoor bar that I can't remember the name of but unplugged their jukebox at the end of the night after 10 enter sandmans were played in a row or a tailgate in the lot right next to the stadium). While in the cash lot we taught them how we tailgated then about 2 hrs before the game headed towards the stadium. Those tailgates were more like what I expected.
Was the lot right along the river path?
I think that should become a thing.
shut your cod hole!
When I said "day", I meant the entire day.
*wink*
Someone who goes has to have a sign with a car and a lightning bolt striking it for Corso, otherwise what's the point?
It's a pity Corso won't be there!
Corso's trying to avoid lightning striking twice.
Hokies are hoping that it does.
Joe, please transfer all of my turkey legs to this man.
(Pls don't I like posting and stuff but give them to him in spirit)
Joe, I agree.
Please send all of JSCVPI20's legs to GUNTAR.
Sadly I cannot take credit for being the originator of this Gif.
I can only photo shop dork magic for the most part.
Happy Dance!!

Wednesday Addams is an all time favorite of mine as far as TV pop culture.
So we're definitely going to be ranked 25th now lol
Lmao this is gold
It's actually green
More News looks like they'll only be here 1 hour before the game so a mini mini gameday. but still so excite
#Marinade
Man. This day keeps getting better and better. I think the same gif I used for the VT trailor seems appropriate here.

That Gif is always appropriate
I just peed and pooped a little.
So much conflicting info. The press release says "College Football Countdown" with just Pollack, Howard, and Davis. But then the official College Gameday twitter says:
"College Football Countdown" is not "College Gameday." Maybe gameday earlier in the day and countdown closer to kickoff?
That's what I'm thinking...
Plus, the VT Athletics twitter account is putting out info with the College GameDay logo plastered on it as if we're gettin full blown GameDay. It really does look like there will be a big event with them.
I hope this isn't a case of VT or ESPN (or both) just loosely throwing around "College Gameday" and their panel and logo just because some combination of ESPN personalities are coming. If Corso, Herbstreit, and the full crew aren't there for the full show with the headgear selection, it's not College Gameday. Hopefully we get some clarification. Really excited that they will be coming in some format.
Herbie can't do gameday if he is calling the game... sooo with that said he probably is calling our game
I lied :(
He can and does quite often... He's just not allowed to make a pick if he's going to be in the booth.
ahh duhh.. only good part is the pics and signs so missing herbie isn't a big deal for me. Plus he is a HUGE osu fan as he went there and is from ohio.
I'm not part of it, but there is a good chunk of BuckeyeNation that does not claim Kirk. It has been reported that Kirk had to move from a Cbus suburb to Nashville to get his family away from the loons. IMO, Kirk just told the truth about the Buckeye's shortcomings over the years, and there are certain fans who do not want to hear the truth, but would rather have the hometown boy be a blind homer. Kirk has a job as an announcer, pundit, and analyst. To have any credibility, he has to treat the Buckeyes like any other team - and I think he does.
I think his friendship with Urban is a stronger influence on him than being a Buckeye alumnus. But if he says positive things about the Bucks, I'd say it will be because he believes it. I also think that when VT (or whoever) exploits something, he will be critical of OSU. I think Kirk has always tried to play the role of serious, unbiased analyst. People can always construe things the way they choose to, but we can compare Kirk to someone like Mark May or Travis Clay who play the role of tweaking large fan bases and generating hate and controversy - and I think there is a clear difference in how Kirk approaches his work as opposed to those dickheads.
Not quite right, Bleacher Report notification
Sand's decision to close on Labor Day for "unannounced events" is much clearer now. How did we not wildly speculate about this happening after the announcement 2 weeks ago?
"This year several major events will be held on campus including a nationally televised football game at 8 p.m. Other as yet unannounced major events may also add significantly to campus traffic loads."
-Sauces
we all knew they would go to Jerry World.. so to get all that stuff packed up and all the way from Arlington to Blacksburg would be tough. 16 + hour drive on a crazy labor day weekend ick.
Glad they're doing some sort of rendition for our game though
No packing worries.
They will send one HD Truck to Jerry's and 1 HD truck to Frank's.
The "unannounced events" have yet to be officially announced. At the time of cancelling classes, GameDay was a possibility, but considered to be pretty remote as ESPN seemed pretty set on doing it in Dallas.
More sauces? Interesting.
Same sauce as the last time I posted a few weeks ago.
#orginalsauce
Virginia Tech's official announcement doesn't say anything about it being a College Football Countdown special... Just that ESPN College GameDay is headed to Blacksburg for a 7th time...
ESPN's College GameDay Returns to Blacksburg
If this is only a quick thing without fan involvement, they haven't informed us, yet.
The headline is this: ESPN live pregame returns to Blacksburg
The College Football Countdown show is set for Monday, Sept. 7
The announcement states: "ESPN's Rece Davis, Desmond Howard and David Pollack will make a stop in Blacksburg for College Football Countdown on Monday, Sept. 7, in advance of a special edition of ESPN College Football presented by Capital One telecast featuring Virginia Tech versus defending National Champions and No. 1 Ohio State at 8 p.m. The trio will be onsite for pre-game, halftime and post-game reporting, beginning at 7 p.m."
NOTE: Pre-game broadcast starts at 7:00, one hour before kick-off.
No mention of the announcers.
Yeah, they changed up the article. Originally, it explicitly said GameDay was coming.
Now all we need is all maroon everything and Metallica to play live....
Ugh.....that's the game designated Orange Effect! :/
The team could still wear maroon...
or..
loved these..
Agreed... as a one time a year thing, I love those unis...
Got my orange #18 ready to go for Labor Day.
My Orange Jersey is a Mike Imoh #20.
lies.. according to the roster its Deon Newsome's. haha jk jk
I always call it the Mike Imoh #20 so people don't think its this guy...

NO. NO. NO.
All Orange = Lose to Duke at home. They should be subject to the Karma police maximum penalty if they ever wear these again.
By that standard, all maroon = get your ass handed to you by a Miami squad that was a worse loss than Duke. They should be subject to the Karma police maximum penalty if they ever wear those again.
Overall, we have a better record in all maroon than we do in all orange, which i believe is 0-whatever.
See ohherro comment below about Orange Effect on labor day...
But we didn't wear all orange that night. We had white pants.
I definitely don't want to see AME for awhile. As far as Karma, I would just do away with the "insert color here" effect games. I would just make every game a GETYOURASSOUTHEREANDYELLALOT Effect game.
I would have a home uni, and an away uni... and that's about it. Hit somebody in the mouth to make a statement.
Lord I hate these orange uni's. Too close to doofuva. I do love a cremecicle though.
To bad some idiot decided to make it an orange effect. What a dumbass
That Orange Effect really does look good under the lights, though.
Maybe the effect is just for the fans and the team still wears AME? Would be fine with that.
The last orange effect game to occur on Labor Day resulted in an overtime win for Virginia Tech...
That was my first game in Lane. Remember it well.
My first game as well. Came in very cynical as a transfer from Clemson. By the time Enter Sandman was over I was hooked.
Proves that the VT Entrance is superior to the Clemson Entrance. These are often compared on TKP.
Dates are significant on the karma scale. Orange effect may be ok this go around.. But no All Orange Everything. I could settle for orange jerseys.
I have the Bottom Pick hanging in the man cave... aka the only room of the shack I call an apartment.
Yeah, orange looks WAY better under the lights than maroon. Uniforms shouldn't be an issue #Sources.
Idk I feel like the maroon is more intimidating under the lights, but is this a hint at special uni's?!
Maroon just kinda looks dead. Orange really pops and looks awesome. I don't think we'll see any special uni's for this game, but I've heard the creamsicle look will almost certainly be staying on the shelves.
shelves...meaning not on the players for the game hmmm
As far as I know, they still have the orange pants and jerseys. Not sure if/when they'll pull 'em out.
Maroon Helmet
Orange Top
Maroon pants
don't think we've done that combo with the current set.
One of the two teams at the spring game did that this year. It looked pretty good.
I could deal with that. Although I still prefer all maroon everything but it appears that is not an option
The did for the Spring Game. Wasn't my favorite look.
Edit: posting photos because the white balance is way off on the other photo above.
add maroon socks to this look and it is fresh.. not really feeling the white
I like that. You can't look at those and say they're not Virginia Tech, it practically screams it at you.
Wonder what it would look like with stripes down the side of the pants the same as the shoulders on the maroon jerseys with white-orange-white.
I still take issue to the orange being wrong. Give me this combo with a true VT orange, and I'm game.
Get used to it... After this year, word is our administration is adjusting the official colors of VT to be what we've been wearing on the athletic field of play for the last 30 years or so...
I'm OK with this look as well, if you have to have an "effect". Also, good idea from Choppin' Wood. Maroon socks would definitely tighten this up.
I could deal with this with two changes:
Shoulder stripes - make white in the middle and maroon on the outsides
Numbers - stick a maroon border on them
This isn't first-hand info, but a rumor of a metallic orange helmet has been floated....
#SAUCES
Great skit.
Schmitts Gay
This would make some sense. OSU wore different unis when we played last year. Its a big showcase for Nike, I'd assume they would take advantage.
With the metallic carbon fiber weave in orange in the corner, could this be something for the lids???

I don't think so. AFAIK it'll be a solid color.
That's good, because I'm not sure how the weave would come together. The stone pattern sort of distroted at the back, and the weave wouldn't be any different.
It's an interesting touch to the "poster" though.
Excuse me, #Marinades
Jesus Christ, Marie.
Maybe AC/DC (or Jim Breuer) playing the Hokie Pokey.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGCkmEFed5w
I wouldn't mind seeing the all-white jerseys that we wore against FSU in the ACCCG with the orange accents.
Seriously, I mean it this time:
are you my doppleganger
Or he's Ron Swanson.

EDIT: I did not realize Ron Swanson was already a member of TKP. My apologies. I'm shocked given your internet protocol:
Ahem...
I make exceptions to my intenet protocol for TKP, as any honorable man would.
It may get crowded in here with all of these Rons
Poor Jerry
You mean Larry?
4-1 when game day is in town...just sayin'
And 1-0 when playing against Ohio State...just sayin'
May the odds be ever in our favor...
701-0 when scoring more points than the other team...
#SOURCES!!!
Unless you're a PAC 12 ref.
posted the exact same thing in Andy's post. Great minds I guess...
Welcome back ESPN. Here, drink up.
Better make sure that's orange flavor...
I like the Black Cherry (maroon)
Me, too, but I also like Orange Effect.
Might I suggest some tang?
EDIT... The first pic was way too large for something so dumb.
Tang sucked in the 60's and still does! They used to advertise that the astronauts drank it. Surprised that anyone wanted to go into space.
Maroon Jersey / helmet and white pants with maroon strip!
But, how do you really feel? Haha it is awful.
It's good added to iced tea like adding lemonade.
I believe we have gotten ourselves the #25 slot in the AP poll to add hype.
Ok guys, we need our sign game to be strong. Preliminary ideas include (not just from me, obviously):
"Who's your Dadi?"
"All Fear the Brew Crew"
"Foster: Australian for Fear"
*Something insinuating Corso isn't there because he's afraid of lightning*
*Obligatory HOAT appearance*
What else?
"VT ain't come to play SCHOOL today either Cardale" Timothy Sands

DAMN!!! This is it. This is the sign.
yup.. the tears are coming out was very very proud of myself for this one!
- The 2014 Ohio State Championship Trophy
- brooms for the sweep
- (insert clever reference to our stadium being louder than theirs)
lanE
Stadium
Parties
loNger
just a typical ESPN reference sign
"THE" DBU.
"VT Football: Undefeated when playing anOSU"
Can we include the Urban Meyer Wiener reference please
"11 and counting" as a caption on this pic:
I approve this message, even if I think the signs should be more about THIS game.
There is never a wrong time to remind our Wahoo bretheren (and the recruits they are after) about the annual smackdown that is the VT-UVa affair.
That's true.
"hey anOSU, let us show you how to win a home opener" too wordy?
The only Bud I need

Dear Urban:
We should go ahead and just every Saturday around 11pm just start sending Urban Papa Johns. And if you could get those boxes for it that would be great.
"Welcome to SACKSBURG!"
"When this stadium's rocking, don't bother blocking"
"The only nuts worth a damn on this field are the one's Exum played off"
"VT would like to welcome the OTHER Ohio University"
"Rural VA > Urban Ohio"
Not to be that guy but Tweedy still has his nuts, Exum's the one who played his off.
thanks for the assist! Good news for Tweedy, still bad for Exum though....
Now watch me whip
VT would like to welcome ONE OF THOSE Ohio universities
or
VT would like to welcome AN Ohio state university
or similar verbage...
EDIT: I'd really just like to see about half a dozen different similar signs because gameday and signs especially are reserved for the ultimate dispespect of the opponent. (not that your actual attitude should be disrespectful, at all.)
We don't need your bud because we have our Bud!!
Someone needs to blow up the doctored poster someone on here did from the 11W poster for last years game for a sign.
what did that look like?
Hope it works
Thanks for the recognition guys! +1 (totally non-sarcastic)
Waiting for this years poster to be released on 11w so I can fix it again. Stoopid poisonous nuts.
That needs to be a sign for gameday. In Blacksburg, but need to find someone in Texas for Saturday too!!!!!
Ok, deal! I'll do the photoshop. You make the sign, fly to Texas, fight the crowd and hold the sign. done and done
I was hoping a volunteer from Texas would raise their hand, and we could email them a pdf that they could put on a sign to take to gameday....anyone out there want to do this? Either the one from last year or the masterpiece that Fernley is going to produce this year. Would be awesome to have more "support" on Saturday than anOSU.
http://www.dfwhokies.com
Someone better at me than writing emails should contact them.
part of me hopes that was on purpose, but most of me loves the irony
Who are we the Washington-State-Flag-wavers?
Where on campus do they set up? This is my first Gameday as a Hokie.
They came to Ohio State many times when I was an undergrad there but they haven't showed their face in Columbus since suing the university over email about Terrelle Pryor and tattoos. Bastards.
They have done a couple different places. They have been inside the stadium and on the Alumni Mall under Torg Bridge. I would expect them to be near the stadium this time but you never know.
It was near the stadium in 2007, when we had a noon game. I wanna say the soccer or softball field?
It was on the artificial turf practice field that lacrosse and soccer used. Not sure if that is still there since that was 8 years ago.
I will say that even though its so far from the stadium, Alumni Mall was a fun place to have gameday.
2005 College Gameday
Especially when it was literally down the hill from my dorm room. I watched them build the set and take it down.
It's still there but it's now used by VT Athletics for Hokie Village before games if I'm not mistaken.
They may use the other field next to that, which has been grass but is supposed to be turned into a turf field in the near future.
I think it will be in the stadium. If its just an hour pregame right up to kick off and then half time show
I was thinking the same thing too. I think it would be great for VT but a bad idea for them. The stadium is going to be LOUD. People at home probably won't be able to hear anything but screaming.
I wonder if they will set up in the Beamer Barn or on the practice field just to counteract this. I'd like them to be in the Barn showing it off to the country.
Use the Beamer Barn as the backdrop from the practice field. If they used the right angle maybe they can get part of Lane Stadium in there as well. Either of these would be sweet!
Do we know who is calling the game?
Please be Brad Nessler. Please be Brad Nessler. Please be Brad Nessler. Please be Brad Nessler.
In a perfect world, it would be Sean McDonough. Seems like he has called almost every huge moment in Virginia Tech football.
As long as it's not Herbie. Haven't had good luck with him in the booth. Although we also haven't had him in the booth in Blacksburg since they started Saturday Night Football.
Herbie is an OSU homeboy, and is never has a lot positive to say about VT, so I'm just as happy he's not there.
Herbie's tough but fair, and talks us up when we have a good team as he does for everyone. Also, didn't his family get run out of Columbus by Ohio State fans?
Yep they fled Cbus moved to Nashville and he donated his house to be burned down by the local fire dept.
He played quarterback for Ohio State, and is a huge fan. But he tried to be objective on the air and some of the rabid Ohio State fans don't really tolerate that.
In the first half of the 2000's Herbie loved us. He even picked us to win the National Championship a couple of years.
That was just because he really dislikes Florida State.
Herb just tells it like it is. He used to give us lots of love
I don't know. I've never found him to be all that complimentary.
Yep - definitely an OSU Homer
yea they did the same thing for the last 3 games they have aired. Playoff games and championship game all had on field pregame shows.
I'm betting Northwest corner of field. Student section and The tunnel view. Add in West side Club seats in view plus people walking in back ground
I am guessing North East corner but not on the field. In between the north and east stands with the west stands as the backdrop
I thought that, but is there room? PreGame Set plus People standing 5 deep plus room for everybody to get to their seats just seems to tight
This is where they set up 45 min before kick right before ECU game in 2007 (moved from the practice fields out front). I was imagining this same spot. Perfect spot for an hour pregame show, halftime, then post game stuff if necessary
yea... I was just thinking they would want the opposite view of that. they seem to enjoy more fans in the shot up close since then
http://virginiatech.247sports.com/Bolt/Virginia-Tech-Recruits-Chime-in-o...
As they should.
Y'all don't sleep on Troy Pride Jr. Kid's gonna be good.....
247 definitely isnt sleeping
Immediately switched to Jim Carey voice halfway through.
Yes it will be!
As will I. . .
I was able to secure my tickets today! See you in a month Blacksburg.
Also there was a post on r/CFB that there is talk of a free Brad Paisley concert on Sunday night on the drillfield? I mentioned it to a big VT guy at work and he said he heard of the same thing from other #sources. Has anyone here heard anything credible about this?
that's been mentioned here as well
Thank ya. I was on vacation that week and missed that whole thread. My mistake.
Enough credibility that he's contractually obligated not to mention WVU.
I hope not... keep that WVU scum away from Blacksburg...
WVU+Country=Double EWW
you country haters make it really hard to stay composed
It makes sense why he left Hokies and Panthers out of his Country Nation song...
I can't blame a guy for standing by his roots even when he made it big. He is a great entertainer and I would love to see him live on the drillfield.
I strongly doubt many people in Blacksburg will share your disdain. Wherever it ends up taking place, that place is gonna be packed.
It looks like Corso thought the game was in Ohio...
Lightning blamed for fuel tank explosion at Ohio gas station
If they set up shop in Lane Stadium for the pre-game show...
... will we be allowed to bring in signs?
One of the tweets from VT_Football said to bring signs!
So bring them! I don't know about into the stadium, though...
