Nice.

Awesome sauce. Chris Coleman of TSL was on ESPN Blacksburg talking about naming rights and they said it'd likely be a road named after him, since it's a nice way of recognizing him without taking naming rights away from a corporate/private sponsor who wants to pay big bucks for the stadium or practice facility.

I listened to the podcast not 3 hours ago, then saw this and thought I was going crazy for a second.

Same here. He had to have known; otherwise, better be picking lotto numbers this week vs. random.

@hokie_rd

Its a Marinade...

“I hope that they’re not going to have big eyes and pee down their legs so to speak,” -- Bud Foster

First of, hopefully, many things to be named after Frank.

Well deserved. Its an honor to have him as part of this program.

ALSO! I hope to hell they sell replicas of those signs, because I would sure as hell buy one. Matter of fact I'd buy a Southgate one too.

Someone should make that happen.

That's going to be a very hot spot for undergrad sign thieves. How many people wouldn't boast a Beamer Way sign on their apartment wall?

Ooh I didn't even think of that, Whit better make sure there's a few extra bolts.

I've always wanted to steal a 118B sign...

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

I met a guy senior year who had one of the I-81 exit signs for Christiansburg in three sections sitting in his living room. That thing was huge. Apparently they were driving down the road early one morning and the signs were disassembled on the ground near the road. Luckily they had a pickup truck.

"Virginia Tech: Our trees have more school spirit than your students."

I may or may not have stolen a few street signs back in my day (86-92) and i may or may not still have a few of those in various places around my house. Otey street was a particular target at that time... everyone thought it was representative of the little rascals Buckwheat 'O-tay'........

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

Stolen signs are great decoration. I have a Visitor parking sign above my couch but my favorite sign is the Winterplace ski slope sign a few buddies helped me snag one night

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

Years ago my friends and I conspired to nab an "Old School St." sign and a Denny's welcome mat for the entrance to our apartment.

I think the street sign has been in my parents basement for some time now.

Butt Hollow Road is hanging somewhere in my house.

We put the K in Kwality

We had a weigh station sign. You can imagine the hijinks. It found various homes throughout the apartment

My old babysitter used to live off Butt Hollow Rd

@AMB4VT

Dont worry I have no doubt the book store and team store ill sell them at something more than a reasonable price.

I'll bet Whit has a vending machines on order to sell them. Not as much fun as thivery but a better revenue stream

The hubs and I think it would be cool if all the on-campus street signs were maroon with the Pylons logo or something similar.

Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.

That's a nice tribute, and it's nice that they did it while he's still there.

Reading through his list of achievements:

His attention to academics has helped lead to 230 of 244 (94.3 percent) senior football players from 2001-2014 earning their degrees;

That to me is the accomplishment right there. While academics are looked at as a joke as close as our own backyard *cough* UNC *cough*, our graduation rate for seniors on the football team is probably higher than the graduation rate as a whole for the university.

Graduating football Seniors...It's the Beamer Way.

The Dude Abides

The right way.

@AMB4VT

Stadium Lane. STADIUM LANE!!!!

Ah well, Beamer Way is tight too

Congratulations to Beamer. It recognizes more than his success but the he has done it the right way, with integrity, honesty and the utmost class.

I am sure it has been posted before but this a great article that shows why Beamer Way is more than just a street:
Rare Insight into Hokie Head Coach Frank Beamer

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

I approve of this.

Do like them going all in too and making Merryman's new address 25 Beamer Way.

Very well-deserved by the Frankinator

Soon there will have to be a Foster Drive too.

Foster Circle....like ring!

We put the K in Kwality

Should be an Offensive Dr. which dead ends into Foster Court.

It could be worse.

I logged in just to upvote this and let you know you've won my internets for the day.

Now...let the sign stealing begin!

Sorry...just...can't...help...myself in the thief dept.
Carry on.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

Beamer Way? Fine.

But find the nearest dead-end road and name it in honor of Bud Foster.

When you go down his street, you're not going ANYWHERE.

How bout the roundabout in front of the health center. Foster circle, you can keep going around and around but it won't get you anywhere

Slightly erratic, mostly sane, always a Hokie.

"... Coach Beamer. I learned more about how to treat people, how to run an organization and how to care about others from this man. There is not a statue big enough or a road long enough that could justifiably honor what he has meant to the school, the football program or those lucky enough to call him a friend." -Bill Roth

I suppose this is a start

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

Now that we have Beamer Way, let's start working on renaming 460 after Frank.

I like this.

Slightly OT, but how do y'all feel about statues? I don't really like them, and having a Beamer statue just sounds weird to me. They are also prime targets for vandalism; even if it's harmless like the opponents tshirt being put on it. But if one ever does get made, we all know what the pose should be...

Who would ever hang a t-shirt on a statue? Seems like a childish thing to do...*

*(This individual may or may not have hung a Beat Bama T on Bear Bryant's statue.)

I approve this message.

In all seriousness, if there is a statue, it should be of this....

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

How about when we close in the North End Zone, with an actual foundation, we call it the Beamer Zone. Or name it something related to Beamer that someone who hasn't been drinking comes up with that is somewhat creative. Eliminate the student lottery, and allow freshmen to get season tickets.

Like it was said above though, about time he has gotten some recognition around campus.

"What are you going to do, stab me? - Quote from Man Stabbed

Thanks for the update, obviously missed that change. Damn I feel old now.

"What are you going to do, stab me? - Quote from Man Stabbed

Freshmen have been able to buy season tickets for a couple of seasons now.

Edit: Didn't see the other reply. My bad.

A street is a good start.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

That is Classic Corey Moore. Remember the interview he gave before the sugar bowl?

yeah I remember, pftt whatever

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

They also changed the Athletic Department address to 25 Beamer Way.
That is really awesome as well.

I think this is step 1 in the path to Beamer's retirement. I think the path winds through the 2016 season, but I think it officially began at that meeting last night. Classy way to start, Whit.

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

Here's the video of Whit announcing the news to Beamer and the team:

"Exit light..."

Also really cool that the athletics department address will be "25 Beamer Way."

I'm not crying...

This is a well deserved honor but the skeptic in me doesn't like the timing, being the week before opening camp.

People typically start erecting statues and naming streets after 1) a national championship, 2) a significant donation, or 3) someone announces they are leaving the program. I hope Whit is not trying to force the coach out by starting the "thank-you road show."

Again - totally deserved for Coach Beamer but timing is strange. At least its not Beamer Way, brought to you by Kroger (for all your tailgating needs).

I don't think it's Whit forcing Frank out. I agree with smitty above - I immediately suspected this is part of a protracted, pre-planned farewell lap for Frank. I bet Frank, Whit, and the assistant coaches know what's up and that's probably about it. I still think conventional wisdom is that 2016 is the year he hangs up the whistle. It all works out too well. The naming of Beamer Way reinforces the morale of the program to remind them of what he's done, and to stick with him because he's done things the right way. We'll see a few subtle events over the next 2 years, I am thinking.

"Exit light..."

Which brings me back to the whole "did ya notice how the lunchpail is becoming more front and center during media sessions this year?"

By the way, don't google 'things that make you go hmm'... Its basically a gateway to 9/11 truthers...

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I imagine it went something like this. Whit walks a round campus looking at stuff, telling his assistant - "
put that on the list of stuff we can sell the naming rights to. Put that on it. And that. And that." Someone hears him and says, I wanted to name that after Beamer. And that. And that. To relieve everyone Whit says - "what street is this? Lets just change it to Beamer Way."

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

This was set up by Whit to be a surprise for Beamer. So he had to do it well in advance of Coach Beamer's retirement.. otherwise it would be expected.
