2015 Fall Camp Practice Day 5 Snapchat Observations

1) Parker Osterloh is working some at #2 Left Tackle with Nijman as the Hokies continue to try to develop a left tackle. He had a competitive rep against Dadi. Alston Smith had some good reps yesterday. Scrimmage work ultimately is going to clear up what right now is a very muddled competition for the swing guard and swing tackle spots.

2) Given Shane Beamer's comments yesterday and the sharpness of some of the cuts I am seeing in team on team work, Trey Edmunds is probably the best back on the roster right now. I like how Edmunds is seeing the hole and making a sharp cut on some of the inside zones. Another back makes a nice cut (I can't tell if it is Edmunds or McMillian) in Front 7 vs Front 7 work, but on the same play, Wade Hansen had nice positioning and leg drive to move Nigel Williams out of the cut back lane. (It likely wasn't a full speed drill, but it looked good.)

3) Lots of jet sweep motion. I get a feeling that all three guys (Coleman, Edmunds, and McMillian) will work both as tailbacks and as jet sweep motion Z backs.

4) Woody Baron looks really quick and disruptive. In pass rush drills, he showed a really nice rip technique and some quick spin moves. It is difficult to make very clear assertions based on watching just the pass rush drills, but when you watch the snap chats the last few days, and combine that with the comments Frank Beamer made about Tim Settle, I drew the following conclusions. If Settle doesn't get redshirted, he may have bypassed both NIgel Williams and Ricky Walker on the depth chart. I noted last year, Walker needed to improve his pass rush, and in these drills both he and Nigel are not getting much done. At the very least, it sure sounds like he is pressing both guys hard.
