I know this isn't the focus of most folks today, however I wanted to share this Cardale Jones tweet. It may not mean anything (especially given how Jones has tweeted misleading stuff in the past) but I thought I would share.

Honestly though I respect the guy. He came back to school instead entering the draft. Sure, he wouldn't have been a first round pick, but someone would have taken him.

Well, according to some OSU fans it'll be 65 to nuttin' after the first ten minutes. I guess Cardale won't be playing that much since the third and fourth stringers will be in by half time.
Please point me in the direction of any OSU fans that said we would put up 65. These fans are either delusional or don't know who Bud Foster is. Rest assured, the knowledgeable Ohio State fans (plenty of those on 11W) expect an absolute slugest with neither team breaking 28 points.

We definitely have them. One of the downsides to being such a large school and having such a large fanbase is that just increases the number of people that exist in our 10%er lunatic fringe club.
Relax. We're all taking this thing far too seriously. You're the national champs and coming in as a big no. 1 so any fan who might have said that has a right. But we all know wake forest was the true champ.
I probably should relax, but this "we are the champs mentality" seems to wreck every team that attempts to repeat. Ohio State fans talking about beating VT and repeating need to remember that last year is irrelevant. Its a new season and a new team. Blank slate for VT and OSU.
The sad truth is that even if VT pulls of the underdog upset again this year, aOSU will be still be ranked higher in the polls a week later than Tech will be.
The one thing I just want to keep telling fellow Ohio State fans is, enjoy having won the nat'l title...but lets not come across as Alabama fans. Please.

I don't even think we should take a wipe the slate clean, it's a new season stance...only because I want to keep pointing our fans back to this game last year and telling them, we were supposed to win last year and we saw what they are capable of. Upsets happen for a reason and this is a prime team to worry about if you didn't last year! I fully expect a good game.
As a Hokie and a Buckeye I believe there is a little crazy talk on both sides. A few weeks back there were Hokies talking about the "trash talking" by Buckeye players in an article in a Virginia newspaper. I avoiding reading the article for days because I didn't want to get drawn into the discussion. I finally read the article and there was nothing that I would consider trash talking....pretty vanilla really.
There have been a few bold or crazy predictions but probably not from fans that actually attended OSU.
I think and hope it will be a good game that will capture the national TV audience attention and causes people to say, "who cares about the SEC". Being a graduate of both VT and OSU and living in Alabama makes this a very important game for me!
I'm guessing the team knows which quarterback will be starting at this point.
It may be that many of us have a guess, but we won't know for sure until game day.
I feel that Bud will have a good plan regardless.
I think that Meyer will go with Barrett as he is the safe pick. Jones has more upside but is less of a know quantity as well.

There was a stretch in that game where JT continuously ran it on us with great success. However, we sacked him a lot too, probably why that average YPC is so low.

That passing stat line is also very misleading. About 7 of those incompletions were absolutely beautiful throws downfield where Corey Smith (dropped about 4 balls that night) or others mad horrible plays on the ball. Some of these poor adjustments were due to awesome coverage while others were just instances of receivers being passive and not even trying to make a snag. Barrett will be up against it on Sept 7, but don't expect 3 interceptions again. He is actually a competent QB despite what some of this site might believe.

Same here. I think many VT fans expect the OSU passing game be dormant again, just as many Ohio State fans expect the VT rushing game to be nonexistent. Both parties might be very surprised on the 7th.
I'm expecting OSU to run the ball A LOT from a lot of different formations and get a lot of players involved early (QB runs, Zeke, sweeps, screens, etc). I think Urban will stick with this strategy as long as possible. I don't expect to see OSU passing 30 times unless VT gets up a 2-3 scores early again.

Kinda the way I feel about it. Can't say I'll be disappointed one way or another. I change my mind daily on who I think would give us the best chance to win in week 1.
I'll be the first to admit that my comment was a little trolly.
I actually think Barrett is an excellent QB, and agree that he played better against VT than the stats indicate. But I also believe that VT's defense was/is still a bad matchup for him, and prefer the facing the guy that VT has already handled rather than the one they haven't seen.
One wild card this game will be TE play. I think if we can get some passes over the middle to the TE we could break a big play or two that way, which will force Foster to rethink some of his defensive alignment. If our WR can block well we could get a TD or two from our TE's. If that happens, your ability to leave the CB in man coverage with the center of the field open when the safety pulls to stop runs will be negated.

Except for the impact his height makes seeing downfield against the blitz, I would have preferred that the Hokies play Jones. He looked like a guy that got rattled easy when pressured. The reason he shined so brightly was because Oregon, Alabama, and Wisconsin used a passive defensive approach that made things exponentially easier for an already outstanding running game. Jones was in situations where he was in good down and distance where play action made him much more effective. Jones has a bigger arm, but Barrett threw the ball just as well if not better than Jones against VT right up until the pounding got absurd in the 4th quarter.
If you watched Barrett from the next game up until his injury, and then watched Jones, I think you would agree that Barrett was probably the better option. Jones size (seeing over the blitz, punishing secondary guys if he breaks contain) is scary, but Barrett is probably better suited for the offense, ESPECIALLY if they use field side speed option against the Bear like they got going in the 2nd half last year.
Barrett to me is the better distributor, the better option to run Meyer's ideal offense...Jones brings a howitzer and a lovely deep ball to go along with 6'5" 250lbs that's hard to bring to the ground. Taking that at face value I'd be leaning toward Barrett as well, myself. The offense becomes much more straight forward with Jones...but honestly just as effective. He starts bombing the ball deep and all the sudden it opens the run game. Zeke breaks off a couple nice runs and the defense starts edging up to the line of scrimmage and playing downhill and Jones bombs it deep. He maximizes Zeke's effectiveness and vice versa. However, the big concern I have with Jones is he doesn't have one of the best deep ball receivers in the country to throw to anymore. The other deep threat guys they currently have are all totally unproven. Devin Smith made Jones look good a few times when they connected last year.
There was a dropped TD that let to a missed FG (huge swing), a high snap inside VT territory that led to a missed FD instead of a chip shot IIRC. Barrett looked lost that 2nd half, but early in the game he torched VT on the ground (yikes).
There were also a lot of 50/50 balls where it looked like the DB got his hand on the ball way later than I'd have liked and.
Overall, looking forward to whomever anOSU trots out.
Honestly, if this does mean that JT Barrett will be starting I can breathe a sigh of relief. I honestly feel Cardale Jones would be a harder QB to stop then JT. Cardale is a much bigger dude then JT.

I think our defensive plan works better against him though. In short yardage situations, who in our 2nd level can stop Cardale from gaining 3 yards? The extra yard or 2 that Cardale would get over JT could be the difference in a punt or 1st down or a touchdown. We also forced outside releases most of the night which means longer throws and JT does not have the arm strength of Cardale which can lead to our DBs having more time to make a play on the ball, even if it is just a swat. Both guys can do big things, I just think we match up against JT better.
And less mobile. I'd rather face a big guy that I'll have a better idea of where he'll be.
Actually, I think JT would be a better starter against you since he is the better passer in terms of technique and ability to recognize defenses of the two. Prior to the suspensions I think 12 Gauge would be a better option for the deep ball but I think JT will be better at attacking your man to man options and in TE passes across the middle. He is not the bruising runner that 12G is but still credible enough and with Zeke/Samuel in the backfield our running game should be fine. With better protection JT should be able to pass on you guys and test your backfield's coverage ability. Granted, your CB duo is one of the best in CFB so I think the key will be passes to the TE and WR blocking to break big passing plays. If the TE gets behind the safety and JT hits him he should rack up some yards.
If by chance it means JT is starting, I like that option better.
Maybe I'm not tweet literate, but exactly how does that tweet indicate anything remotely like Barrett could be the starter?
If anything, I read it as it's still an open competition and Jones can only control what he can control, i.e. he can only do his best and he can't control who the coaches decide to go with.

As a Buckeye, I think the vast majority of us feel more comfortable with JT Barrett. The JT you saw in that game is not the same JT by the end of the year.
After that VT loss, over the next 9 1/2 games up to his injury, he racked up 3300 yards and 41 touchdowns while setting Ohio State and Big Ten records and was #2 in the nation in efficiency. He was playing crazy good football.
I think a far better barometer (than some nebulous tweet) of who will be the OSU QB is that Barrett was named a co-captain yesterday (albeit by the players) and Jones wasn't....
