Well if it's orange uniforms count us in for a whooping. I hate when we wear orange as our primary jersey color. NOTHING GOOD COMES FROM IT.
It definitely looks like the edge of the shoulder on a jersey. Plus our maroon with orange trim is way more recognizable, the orange look lumps us in with Clemson, Syracuse, Illinois and ugh UVA.

TheFifthFuller put this great article together about a year ago. The maroon helmet-orange jersey-orange pants doesn't work (lowest winning percentage at 0%). But, if we wear an orange jersey with white pants we're pretty much good (100% wins with a maroon or white helmet).

I don't really care what the numbers say (I know we won the 11 UNC game wearing orange tops), but for whatever reason even when we win something about the orange unis inspires awful tragic football.
I'd say that it's more instinct than anything, like seeing a bear on a hike you just know you should run from it.

Well, in honor of Coach Coffey, I'd like to remind you that he had one fairly swell year with a whole heck of a lot of offense in Orange. The difference now is we know what defense is. So danm (sp) the color and full speed ahead.

There's a nice use of the logo every year, next to the VT logo and a score for the football game.
I do have to admit that those looked pretty good, however they definitely looked best when Dadi made a Lambert bobble head.

Since the only part of the helmet we can see is at the bottom by the face mask and it appears to be maroon, that means it could possibly be the helmet that was revealed during the spring game:

Whatever it is, please don't suck. I kinda liked that at last years game, OSU went all out with their pro combats and we rolled in with our standard whites and took care of business. Just feels like the script is being flipped here.
I'm cool with it, as long as the script that gets flipped is the one that had the home team losing.

Well I know statistically we don't really play better or worse for whatever helmet or jersey we wear, but seeing this i still remember our last orange bowl game with Stanford...

I don't know about the all orange. I think it's definitely too much. If there were a way for the top and bottom to incorporate maroon more, maybe it'll be alright, but with the way the throwbacks do it, not cool.
I remember being unpleasantly surprised at the 2013 Duke game when I saw them trot out with all orange. I jokingly said to my friends that we'll lose because of them; I guess somewhere deep inside I wasn't joking. Frank also did say many years before after wearing all orange and losing to UVa that they would never wear all orange again. I hope he keeps his word.
You could say the same about All Maroon Everything.
The uniform will not win or lose the game for us. We've sucked in both orange and maroon. This is going to be a special look the players and recruits will love, and that's all that really matters

Personally, I love this look. Having the maroon jersey is a must for me. I'm okay with the orange lid and pants as long as we have the maroon jersey. In fact, if we must have an orange lid (not my favorite), then I'd prefer orange pants to white or even maroon pants. It just looks more balanced having orange-maroon-orange.
Having said all that -- all I care is we get the W.
But we've sucked more in all orange, and looked bad while doing it.
I'm gonna throw out a wild guess here. I think that the helmet will be an orange chrome in front with a fade to maroon in the rear.

The equipment managers also released these pics, which you can see the new tri colors are in the house and could be a staple this year.

OT, but I bought a new VT flag to fly in front of my house (old one got torn up by the wind) and went with an Orange back with Maroon VT. It's clearly a sign that this is a winning combo.

There is no way that we wear those Furman helmets every game... It's a direct copy of Navy, which is why we're wearing them for Military Appreciation Day
And our current uniforms are a direct copy of LSU...

You really think so? From what it looks like LSU had the shoulder stripes in 1957 and UCLA appears to have had the shoulder stripes just before that. VT had them (from what I can tell) in the Frank Loria era. Shoulder stripes generally seem to have been popular back then so I don't necessarily think that VT's current uniforms are a direct copy of LSU's.
Navy wore them for one game. If we were to use it more than they do, it becomes our thing, not theirs.

I don't mind it as a novelty, but let's keep our usual uniform simple, shall we? I prefer not to go the Maryland clown suit route. I don't really want uniforms that make this game "more special" than it already is. It should be business as usual. The way to get more attention is to win your games.

Looks like the inside of the VT is just going to be the orange chrome of the helmet. If you look at the top right picture, the VT is outlined in maroon and white but you can see a sliver of orange.

EDIT for clarity: I think we all knew/suspected by this point that the VT will be orange. I meant the VT looks like a solid filled sticker like last year's orange effect, as opposed to a "VT in space" (as you nicely put it) similar to the orange camo helmet.
I think it's actually the sticker from the Furman helmets, but that's a subtle difference. Either way it should be solid instead of the outline that wouldn't stick.

And last year it had an extra white border on the outside, harder to tell on a white helmet but it would look out of place on the orange background.

Regardless the style VT they are using on the new helmets is similar to those except that the new ones look to have a full sticker and not just a VT outline. Negative Space effect overall.

My concern is too much orange WITH too much maroon. One of those colors must be an accent, you can't do both as primary colors. Orange jerseys + maroon pants is bad. Maroon jerseys + orange helmets is bad.
If that's your helmet, wear it with an orange jersey and white pants and it will look great.

It started yesterday with a bang, Montana beat ndsu in a great game, the big boys kick it off Thursday night.
I'm not a big fan of orange but that metallic orange is pretty sweet, it does look like it fades to maroon tho if you look closely. As far as our uniforms go, Cincinnati allways has pretty sweet uniforms and whit ordered those things, I think he knows uniforms are big with recruits these days, I totally trust whit to hook the hokies up with some sweet uniforms when he orders them.
Just released the next image, and there's no fade, and it's definitely the decal from the Furman game....
But damn those things look impressive. Give me a maroon version for Maroon Effect and I think I could easily live with these looms going forward.
Now I just hope there's a special jersey to go with the helmets. Love the candy coat orange. Oh, and white pants.

Agree with you on the balance. The throwbacks that are currently worn either don't have enough orange or don't have enough maroon.

I realize it's the product on the field, and not the 'wrapping paper' that matters, but IMHO (and feel free to bash me -i have thick skin) here's 2 examples of uniforms i think that helmet would look great with, and 2 examples I think would be a disaster (i do realize that some of these uniforms were one and done....but one can wish, can't they...?)

oh, i realize the jerseys themselves are not coming back.....just the idea of that type of color combination is really what i was talking about.......and while I'm at it...am i the ONLY one who digs the all whites with the maroon lid?...something about the all whites always connected with me.....maybe showing how dirty you were by the fourth quarter sending a subconscious message to the other team....i don't know....

Wow this is definitely a sick helmet. The metallic effect plus the maroon face masks are what really set this one apart. The white face masks didn't look very good on the last ones. Big difference.
I expect the twitterverse to explode when we come out of the entrance on Labor Day, with similar reactions to Lebron James' endorsement of the Uni's we wore against Boise St. (Even though they weren't mt favorite)
Also think there's going to be a little something different with the jerseys to make the combo work.
By all accounts, we are done with the mockery of uniforms that concluded Weaver's tenure. Much better finished product while still spicing things up a bit. I'm excited for the Nike makeover for all the programs next year!

When Whit was here in Charlotte a few weeks ago, he said the one thing that is important to him is seeing the VT on the helmet every week.
Probably in a very small minority, but I'm not big on these lids. Far from the worst we've had though.
I can understand your viewpoint. Right now, I'm not too amazed with them, but I have a feeling that under different lighting (Lane Stadium lights), they will probably look a lot better.

I think this lid would look best if we wore maroon jersey and maroon pants IMO. In all Orange or Orange tops I think if would look weird. Would have 2 different kinds of Orange going
That was an initial concern of mine as well, but after briefly looking around, I'm not finding many teams that did a chrome helmet that was the same color as their jersey, however this really doesn't look too bad.
With this tweet from VT Equipment I figured only the helmet would be "special."

I think that just means "ready for the season." I'd be very surprised if we wear the standard home maroon on Orange Effect. We always sync with the Effect game in terms of the primary jersey color.

Who is Clark Ruhland?
He's a graphic designer, who also works for the city of Salem. A huge Hokies fan and has organized several great projects. He's created a Unibuilder, which has every conceivable uniform under Frank Beamer. Additionally, he organized a helmet bracket with every helmet worn under Frank Beamer, and just finished up a "VT Helmet History" with info on the details of each helmet worn during the Beamer era.
He creates wallpapers and backgrounds for computers and iPhones. This is my computer background right now

The way they revealed the helmet, and by the looks of the All Maroon pic, they are doing a slow reveal with jerseys too. Why would they post a pic of a bunch of orange jerseys without the orange helmet and without a graphics arts package like they did with the helmet. They messed up
