VT vs Ohio State: Quick Takeaways

1) Offensive line played well tonight. They got push all game long. You didn't see DL running free all game long like last season. Good in pass protection. One breakdown (looked like a communication error where Gallo stepped right, saw the blitz left and went to help Coleman when he had to take Washington) cost them Brewer. You hate that for a kid in Gallo, making his first start, who played pretty well.

2) I loved the 2nd quarter response. On defense, Chuck Clark had an amazing game. He made every tackle inside.

3) I didn't like the personnel in Coach Foster's Bear front. Last season, the DE was standing up on the Boundary. This year, either a DT or DE stayed out and RVD played the edge on the boundary. It hurt the pass rush and the base run defense (QB Counter Trey). Slow playing the option was effective.

4) Michael Thomas is a terrific player, and Braxton Miller showed why the QB Counter Trey was so dangerous.

5) The health of Kendall Fuller and Brandon Facyson, who I can't remember seeing in the 4th quarter is worrisome.

6) Mike linebacker and rover are major worries, and Donovan Riley getting so little playing time after playing well in camp was really confusing. We saw Kendall Fuller ghost Miller some, but Miller made plays when he had the right match up.

7) I don't know what to make of the quarterback situation. The TV angle didn't show receivers down field, but it looked like Motley was indecisive. I do know that those intermediate routes to the tight end that were open all night didn't seem to be getting even looked at once Motley was in the game.
