I wasn't terribly worried or surprised about our slow start on offense. Now had things not started to really click after Halftime, that would have been different. Regardless of the opponent, I really think the coaches and players deserve a good deal of credit for how they rebounded from Monday night.
On to Purdue, GO HOKIES

I guess the backup QB at ECU is pretty good. Blake Kemp threw for 333 yards & 3 TDs against Florida.
Even if the Gators' coach was embarrassed by his team's performance, putting up those kind of numbers against an SEC defense is impressive to me. Hope our secondary is firing on all cylinders by the time we play ECU!

That was at the end of the game. If he goes down, They can kneel for the win. If he scores, then ECU has the ever so slight chance of winning by scoring a TD, getting the onside kick, and hitting a Hail Mary.

This is actually a very smart play.. I know it looks stupid, but it was very smart. Completely sealed the deal for the win and prevented ECU of having any crazy chance of getting the ball back.

What he said.
I applauded the slow introduction of Lawson as smart. A snap here, a snap there, nothing to stall a drive. I think the first time, when Motley lost his helmet may have sparked the idea but I think it worked.
I suspect, the opportunity was taken to coach each guy as they came off the field for the next play.
The coaching has impressed me as well the play calling in both games was excellent. We are going to have an offense as soon as we get settled in with Motley.

Do not take this in anyway that I am happy about Brewer's injury. Again, I was sick to watch it and I hate it for him, his parents, and the team. And I hope he gets back sooner than later.
But I'm gonna take the glass half full approach: had Brewer not been injured, he would be getting almost all of the snaps. The injury has forced the coaches' hand to get Motley/Lawson/Durkin reppin' and that sets us up MUCH better for next year. Can you imagine our QB having his first full game at Bristol? We'll have some much needed experience at that position with depth, and more talent coming.
When Brewer comes back, the position will be his, but the team will be better off depth-wise.
The injury puts pressure on the running game which we vastly need to focus on-great steps against Furman were taken.
And it gives the team a rallying cry; not that it needed one.
VT fans are used to minimal depth at the QB position. If this college football season so far is any indication, injuries will happen and you need a SOLID #2, #3, etc. QB ready to go. Coach Loeffler is creating that.
We still need more depth at WR and O-line, LB, but it's better-next year even more so hopefully.

Not sure if it was the play calling or Furman's pass coverage being absolutely horrible, but Motley has a decent arm on. Hit's the throws he needs to hit. Wasn't impressed with his throwing into coverage, but seemed like a smart plan around him. Lawson looked a prospect. Expect a similar split against Purdue. Want to see Motley against a non #1 team in the nation defense. Still Power 5 in Purdue...albeit Purdue...but I don't think either OSU or Furman was a barometer of what to expect out of Motley this season.

Completely and whole heartedly agree! However, not sure Purdue will give us much either. ECU is the first real threat that I think we'll face since OSU. That may be the best barometer for Motley that we'll get before ACC play.

Respectfully disagree on Motley's arm strength, at least from what I saw yesterday. His throws outside the hash marks didn't look good, and a couple that were batted away are INTs in conference play.

Well, Motley definitely has arm strength. No doubt. The issue with those throws is more about timing than strength. He can get the ball there but he needs to be earlier on those throws. He has a cannon of an arm so arm strength certainly isn't an issue. He consistently misses deep routes by OVERTHROWING them which isn't a problem you generally have with someone who lacks arm strength.

He was actually making the right decision on every single one of those throws, but he was getting them off WAY too late. Instead of throwing the ball when the receiver made the break (ball would get to the receiver by the time he looked around), he waited till the receiver broke, ran a few steps, THEN threw the ball. The receivers were open, he just got them off too late. That changed in the second half.

Confidence that the WR and QB were on the same page and when the route move would be executed.
Confidence and timing, it's why these next couple games are so important and why our best WRs were still in the game a long time.
Let them see the new QB work, let the new QB see the WRs work.

You mean this Florida Team??!?!?
Did this really happen? What point in the game did this happen?
WTF was that?

It was a weird play, but immediately a Gif favorite. This is the team that was gif'd twice for blocking their own players.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

agreed. he had a weird double clutch on a quite a few throws as well. just isn't very confident in his reads.
