The transcript, as I could dictate:
I think Miami is just an absolutely terrible job. I think this program is bankrupt. I think it has a delusional fanbase thinking that this is the '80s and '90s and possibly even the early part of the new millennium. I don't get it. I don't know why any coach in their right mind would want this job.
...
You have all these former players, and their names are well known. They're tweeting, and they're wanting some ownership in the program and they're not going to accept just some run of the mill coach, nor will they get a big name coach. As you said, maybe they can entice a coach, but I'd like to know who you're talking about, because what legitimate coach would walk into there with one of the worst stadiums in America with no fanbase whatsoever unless they can be a proven winner, which they can't be on Day 1. I mean Al Golden was a pretty good hire and he failed miserably.
Ouch

Paul Finebaum is also an idiot
Careful, talk like that might make him have to dry his weepy eyes with the stacks of hundreds he keeps lying around his house.
In all seriousness, he's an idiot in the same regard that Jerry Springer is an idiot. Finebaum is a shrewd businessman whose model is founded on appealing to the lowest common denominator.
Jerry Springer was the mayor of Cincinnati, political adviser to RFK, and founded a TV genre. I don't think he's an idiot in ANY regard.
That...was kind of my point.
Oh....well......leg to you, and .... i'm going to go back to my sexy party
Finebaum is also right more often than he's wrong.
He says what people don't want to hear, but sometimes it's the truth that hurts, and people want to shoot the messenger.
Its funny, cause I'm guessing most of Finebaum's callers are listening to his show during Jerry Springer commercial breaks
aka the SEC
He's about spot on with this though. All the former players are clamoring to hire someone to bring back da U, but...it is what it is; like Paul said. Al Golden was a solid hire at the time, and it flamed out.
The players should root for Art Kehoe to stay on the OL and Randy Shannon to come back to coordinate the defense, then they themselves should come in and coach the team.
I'm sure it would help recruiting if four NFL hall of famers came to your house.
Might not get good results on the field, though. In that case, at least it would shut them up.
If they found the right guy who can harness the ego and leave it on the field then they would be able to make a quick turn around. I hate Da U, but the ACC needs them to be good.
I completely disagree. I don't think the ACC needs them to be good. We have a private school that has pulled itself out of the dumps. We are fine with a private school moving to the bottom. I would love for Miami to replace Duke as the joke in the conference that everybody always chuckles about and pencils in for homecoming and automatic wins.
Too soon
I think we're better off if the ACC, as a whole, gets better.
As long as VT can manage to stay at the top.
Totally disagree.... while it is fun to watch them suck, for the ACC's image, they need Miami to be good. They are a national brand, and always will be no matter what, just based on their history and accolades.
I would rather have Miami be in the top 10 when we play them rather than a dumpster diver, and most, if not all, other teams would agree to that. Them being highly ranked brings more of a audience to a national level than playing a highly ranked Duke, BC, Pitt, NC state, etc.
Ehh... I would counter with the fact that the Big 12-2 are doing just fine on the image front with a bad Texas and an Oklahoma that will probably finish with 2 or 3 losses.
Though they'd be doing much better if Oklahoma and Texas were better.
yea but they have had TCU and Baylor rise to a national limelight. We haven't had a team that come from another conference or not to be a legitimate top 5/10 team. And like Vtkey said, they would be doing SO MUCH better if Oklahoma and Texas returned to their old forms
(replying to both of you here)
My point is, when it was us and BC (freakin' 2007) touted as national title contenders, the narrative was still "when FSU and Miami come back up, then the conference will be better." And even now, as we have Clemson as #3 AP and legitimately so, the national media is STILL waiting on FSU and Miami. Well, they're gonna be waiting a while.
I say as long as a conference has SOMEBODY as a legitimate contender to the championship, all the better. It doesn't matter if it's a traditional power as long as there IS a power.
I think that's absolutely true. I think
as far as the media is concerned, consistency counts as well.Yeah, most of the power teams have had 6-loss seasons thrown in there for good measure since the league expanded to 12 (us being the newest member of that club).
I hate Miami more than LOLUVA. So I might be biased.
yea I hear ya, I hate Miami almost as much as UVA but if the ACC and teams within want the bias/favoritism from the media (maybe not up to the SEC level, impossible to get that), then they need Miami to be a national powerhouse again.
The press would love it if Miami made it back. They have a good story, what with all the championships, scandals, and 30 for 30 episodes.
Yea while their fans are awful, they still recruit much better than most of the schools in the ACC given all the talent that's in their home state. Whether I want it to happen or not I think the right hire could definitely turn things around for them.
Although the man is a panderer of the basest sort, I would be interested to hear what he would have to say about a Virginia Tech head coaching vacancy.
He had me until he said Al Golden was a pretty good hire
At the time, Al Golden was considered an excellent hire for Miami
There were plenty of people who pointed to the fact that he won nothing at Temple despite having the biggest MAC budget to make him a poor hire
Well, he's right.
i see you found some lost footage of after the miami-vt game 2 years ago.
What sucks is that you have to go that far back to make the joke
I like to think that the timing is due to the weather during those games.
More due to the mediocrity factor.
Damn man, not the intent of the gif, but this game was only 2 years ago, Frank looks totally different here than present day, physically (other than the face in palm part.) All jokes aside, I am sure it is a combination of things, but the last few years I think have really taken a toll on CFB. Makes me sad for him.
Does that apply to Alabama? How many coaches did they burn through after Bryant retired? hell, they fired a guy after he won a title. Fact is, Miami has been more successful in its history than every SEC team not named Alabama, and with the right hire they could be back quickly.
A national title? Cuz the only person between Bryant and Saban to do that was Stallings, and he retired 3 years after by his own decision
Miami gets a lot of talent, don't like em at all but I am a realist and a good coach can make them a winner, but I know VT is definitely the better job and we have the players now plus more returning next year, redshirts, injuries and a solid class. Facilities are great, good athletic director, good location if you like seasons and the mountains and nature. I think our future is bright, and the year isn't over yet. It isn't how I or anybody else who is a fan would have wanted it but I will support the kids and school to the end, I am not ending football season early! GO HOKIES =)
LOL at da U
Muck Fiami
The answer for Miami is right in front of them
I think when you've sunk as low as 58-0, you can afford to make some risky hires. There is precedence for entertainers to succeed in leadership roles previously deemed too important for them...
Apparently when Reagan viewed Back to the Future at the White House, he laughed so hard at this part he made them stop the film and back it up so he could watch it again.
Also, all three BttF movies now take place entirely in the past. And now I have the old man sadz.
Satire at its finest
He certainly has the right accessories to store championship rings.
I've never understood that fanny pack thingy. The heck was Dwayne hauling around in there for realz?
Maybe it was his "dick in the box" before it was made famous by Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg
Dick in a fanny (pack)?
Back in the day, fanny packs were really popular with bodybuilders and football players for storing their "kits" (ie their steroids, other performance enhancing drugs, and related paraphenalia, not to mention recreational drugs). Looking at the size of his neck and how "puffy" he looks in that picture, I think we can make a pretty good guess as to what might be in that fanny pack. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.
Finebaum also spoke about Tech and Beamer a lot on yesterday's show. Said what 90% of Hokie fans think......a legend, hall of farmer and class act whose time has passed and needs to step down before the program is in complete shambles. Also thinks Tech is a great job and would attract great candidates.
Colin Cowherd said he was gonna have Uncle Luke on The Herd today....I hope he asks him about Dana Hologram
