So, last night on Kimmel, the first trailer of Captain America: Civil War premiered. What are your thoughts, reactions, predictions for the film? It looks like some major characters might die (War Machine?). Hopefully it will do better than the previous Avengers film.

Believe this is not technically an Avengers film. Avengers 3 isn't up til like 2018
Oh I know. I was just implying that there are comic nerds (non offensive) out there that are probably nicknaming it Avengers 3 because it includes the MAJORITY of the Avengers sans Thor, Quicksilver & IncrediHulk. Plus it's introducing some new ones (Winter Soldier and Black Panther).

Captain 'Mrica 2 was the introduction of Winter Soldier.
As a villain. It wasn't until the end of the film that he flipped.
You could have just just called it Avengers or Avengers 2 in your title because they all feel like the exact same movie...

I'm #DCU4life but the last cap movie was just phenomenal.
Admittedly, I'm looking forward to the civil war movies...as they're going to include spidey (I believe starting in the second iteration)
The great thing about Winter Soldier is you really dont need to watch it as a super hero movie.
It works just as well as a spy thriller, and better than half the Bourne movies.
It has the same vibe as Manchurian Candidate, or Parallax View, or in some ways All the President's Men, but just happens to be focus on Captain America.
Marvel fo life. Ride or die. Anyone watched the Jessica Jones show on Netflix? I'm pretty pumped for that, especially since they'll have Luke Cage too, but I'm waiting until I can get all the way through the Daredevil series. Life keeps getting in the way of me sitting on my ass watching tv. I think Daredevil has been really good...I always thought Spider-Man would be better as a tv show as well (now that they can do all the crazy special effects) than trying to have these giant ass movies where you're trying to compress 50 some years of plot development into 2 hour chunks. Especially since people take Spider-Man a lot more personally than I think we do a lot of comic book characters.
Plus, you know, Ritter is kinda hot. Just let that settle.

David Tennant has basically taken the Killgrave from the page and actually made him interesting.
On page he was just a narcissist that broke the 4th wall. On screen you can literally see him have all his personal delusions of JJ loving him broken bit by bit, and then on the cusp of vengeance there is always that voice in his head hoping they will be together.
So far I think Marvel has dominated movies but done terrible television. DC has been the opposite with terrible movies but amazing TV success. Kind of hard to figure out why they have such opposite fall offs.
I wouldn't call the Dark Knight Trilogy terrible. Man of Steel was pretty mediocre though.
Mentally I dont credit DCU for The Dark Knight trilogy. Christopher Nolan was pulled in for that by Warner Brothers. I do give DCU massive credit for the tv show Gotham though. Its one of the best textured shows I have ever seen and has been awesome to watch character development.
Have you checked out the Supergirl show? It seems like a remake of the New Adventures of Superman (mind you better graphics) in terms of content. But I know it just started.
That one didnt spark any interest for me. Too bubbly and soap opera-ish

Disagree. I thought Daredevil was spectacular. I enjoyed Peggy Carter. Admittedly I have not seen Agents of Shield or the Krysten Ritter show.
Havent had access to Daredevil but Agents of Shield is a WVU couch fire at its finest
Peggy Carter not much better from my point of view. Especially compared to Gotham. Totally different level of television.

I will readily grant the first half of Season 1 was hot garbage, and the first half of season 2 pretty meh.
But the Winter Soldier tie in episodes, and since the Season 2 mid break it has been on point.
Clark Greg is always great as Coulson, the setting up of the InHumans has been great and done a lot of the Civil War tensions beyond Sokovia. And Grant Ward is one of the most fun villains we have gotten in the MCU right up there in "wild card" level with Purple man.
That may well be but it was terrible too long for me to bother watching it. It was so bad at the beginning that I would rather have watched Kardashian reality TV.
And you really arent wrong in that assessment. I wouldnt recommend anyone watch the first half of season 1. Just really terrible.
Basically when the show got ok'd the whole "SHIELD is HYDRA" Winter Soldier thing was already planned so they had to kill an entire 11 episodes with filler.
Spider Man 2 is the best superhero movie. Think about it.
You're indicating that SM2 is superior to: Dark Knight, The Avengers, XMDOFP, Iron Man and GOTG. Let that sink in for a minute.
GOTG gets my vote if we are ranking them. I think I would put Ant Man second in terms of entertainment value. I probably rank SM2 5th behind the first Capt America and Dark Knight with Joker. Just my opinion.
I love all of those movies, and what we definitely agree on, I absolutely LOVE MacGruber and have seen it at least 15 times.

The MCU movies across the board have been stronger than the DC movies. However, the Dark Knight was cinematic genius. The Bane movie was ok. The Superman's have been dreadful.
The only really bad MCU movies were the first two Hulk flicks. Man, those were some RichRods. (my new word for turdburger is "richrod."

Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, Dark Knight trilogy were all superior to any Spider-Man movie, although I think that 2 was probably the best Spider-Man movie. Which pains me, because I love Spider-Man. Seriously, they need to do it as a tv show. You can establish the Ben Parker/Great power, great responsibility in season 1 and intro Gwen Stacy, go through Gwen's saga, throw in Connors in the 2nd season, then MJ comes in season 3. Plus you can develop villains more effectively if you take your time, like they did with Kingpin in Daredevil.
Can't disagree at all. GotG was tremendous.

FOR THE RECORD: Guardians of the Galaxy was my favorite but I think SM2 is the best true super hero movie, and therefore IMO, the best.
I think the Dark Knight is great but I am of the unpopular opinion that it is overrated and not a true super hero movie. Still love it, and the trilogy.
One thing is for certain. The movie will be better than the actual comic event.
On page it was disjointed, characters breaking established patterns, and in general poorly written and wrapped up way too fast.
Frankly the group that was best written through it was the X-Men who told the govt to stay out of their shit or it was about to get real. Also the start of Cyclops really moving from being an annoying boy scout to the awesome anti hero savior we have no.
