Not that this really applies to us anymore. Just thought it was interesting

It could. I will not believe the fuente deal until he is on campus holding a press conference

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

True. I feel like more fans would be happy with Fuente at the helm rather than Richt, though. At least I would.

I think Jander is more worried about Fuente flipping to Georgia rather than Richt coming to Blacksburg.

just when I thought all of the anxiety of this coaching search was over and I could relax...

Exactly

Agree. Justin has a long term up side.

The older I get, the better I was...Go Hokies!!!

No, no, no. This must end. We can take no more.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Now you see why Whit moved so fast. It was rumored that Fuente was going to be a candidate at Georgia if Richt was fired.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

What worries me about this is the possibility of Richt going to UVa.

I bet he takes a year or two away from coaching.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I mean, I'd read about the rumors earlier this season but with the way things had quieted down I didn't think it was happening.

I'm glad we acted quickly. Georgia is a desirable location.

Wonder where mark ends up

This is scary because of the possibility of Fuente being pursued by UGA...

I was nine years old the last time those bow tie wearing sissies beat the good guys.

I think he's a good coach. I could see him going back to Miami (where he played QB) and I think UVA could go after him like they did in 2001.

Fucking insanity Georgia.

Next UGA HC UGA alum broyles award winner Kirby Smart

Richt is coaching UGA bowl game, he isn't getting hired by a P5 top school then.

I would be shocked if Georgia doesn't hire Kirby Smart. It just makes too much sense.

I think that's the path they take. Smart will be kinda busy to recruit and coach UGA in the bowl so Richt stays on.

From your lips to God's ears, may He make it so. I really like the combination of coach Fuente and coach Foster

Go Hokies!

This is too bad, Richt is a good guy. UGA may regret this a la Tennessee.

LOLUGA

What happened to Kirby Smart being locked in to South Carolina?

UGA is a better job. USCe is in quite a pickle if Smart goes there.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

South Carolina is about to be boned as boned can be.

Oh cruel fate, to be thusly boned. As not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.

Fire a guy after a win against your in-state rival who still has the possibility to pull a 10 win season if they win the bowl game? Be careful what you wish for UGA.

If you play it, they will win.

See: Nebraska.

Didn't Pelini have some off-the-field stuff going on too?

If you play it, they will win.

I dunno if he had off-the-field stuff, but his players loved him even if everyone else thought he was a bona fide a$$hole

I want to say he said something at a press conference, pretty much speaking his mind. It is kind of sad how diplomatic HCs must be nowadays. I believe the inability to play politics has been a knock on Bud becoming a HC for some. That turned out really well for them. I know everyone wants instant result these days, but I don't believe anyone needs to be fired after a 9 win season.

I think the Georgia fans screwed themselves over on this one trying to get rid of a coach that was 9-3, if they get a new coach it will take 4 seasons of somewhat poor playing before any coach can get a team to work the way it is supposed to

I don't think the fans decided to fire Richt...

Put in Donlon

But they have been dreaming for it for awhile

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

screw nebraska, see maryland and Richt was even more successful than him! I know a lot of fans who were PISSED about that

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

It was a tough move to make, winning 9 games, but the right one. Was UGA going to be better over the next four years with Richt? No, his message was stale. Whether it is a Smart or Mullen or Freeze or Patterson, they are at a point where they need to make a move and take a chance. Keeping Richt was the safe move, it was time for them to not be safe.

That said, if Richt wants to coach again (not a given) he will do well. I like him best of all and would drop Fuente if Richt was available. But I doubt he will be, Fuente will do fine.

As someone who was a Prof at GT for over 20 years, we always thought of UGA as classless and stupid. More proof.

The older I get, the better I was...Go Hokies!!!

Kirby Smart, Dan Mullen, Jimbo Fisher, and Tom Herman are the big names they are mentioning for Georgia's replacement on bleacher report whatever that website is worth as far as dependability.

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

This is a Tennesee/Nebraska type of move, and just might take a while to even get back to where they are now.

Then again, they might hit the lottery with a new hire. There's a certain "hit and miss" aspect to it, as with all coaching changes.

But if a coach wins 9 games, it's a bit difficult to fire them.

UGA Insider is reporting that Tom Herman has agreed in principal to become UGA's next head coach. Could just be rumors for now, but worth watching.

If true, this means the UGA administration had been working on this for a while possibly.

EDIT: Looks like people have been saying where this info came up from is totally fake, so probably not real.
So: #sauces people, they get after you

That's the only way they would have fired Richt, to have a coach replacement lined up.

Herman would be a good hire for just about anyone. But for UGA, I think the best hire would be Kirby Smart.

The Smart hire, eh?

Man with all the coaching madness going on I hope Fuente can come in and steal some recruits away from some of these schools before the deadline.

Using /s is for cowards.

Yes, this Whit Babcock guy knows what he is doing. The future is bright, Hokie Nation

Worries about Richt, I remember a few years ago LOLUVa pursued him. He could go in there with some expectations, however little to no pressure to succeed. Could be a tad scary having to go against him every year.

UT PROSIM

Seriously can you imagine if UVA was recruiting well with London how good they'd recruit with Richt...but hopefully UVA can't make a play for him. I could see USC looking his way possibly, but just honest opinion backed by absolutely zero, I think he might stay in Athens or atleast sit out from coaching for a little while.

Ugh I hadn't considered this. Would prefer to play against Golden with LOLUVA level talent. He's already got an orange tie, too.

Why just why. Horrible move by UGA

Richt just got Freigened

And I bet the UGA administration is hoping they don't get Terp-edoed.

I'll see myself out. That was bad, even for me.

"Exit light..."

As long as they don't throw an offer at the next eds-hole that walks past the door, they should be okay.

(You aren't kidding; it's hard making fun of the terminally pathetic)

Richt unlikely to pursue another coaching job.

5. Richt plans to coach Georgia in its bowl game. He has no plans to pursue any other head coaching vacancy this offseason, per numerous people close to him, and has been invited to stay on at UGA in some capacity. While Richt's statement yesterday did not address that, he will almost certainly remain active in the Paul Oliver Network, a program to help former Georgia players transition into the real world once their football days are over. It's long been a pet project for Richt.

I really like Richt. I didn't think he was a fit at VT which is why I was anti-Richt as our next coach but he's a really good character guy and not a bad coach at all. I do think he underachieved considering the talent he had but he was no Mike London. I wish him the best.

Onward and upward

I think the best way to evaluate coaches lately, especially ones who are 'underachieving' is this...

Woud you or would you not be afraid if (insert Coaches Name) took the UVA job?

I have yet to hear one person's reply "No" to Richt, Georgia just shot themselves in the foot with this one...

It doesn't look like it matters much now. He doesn't seem interested in pursuing other opportunities.

Onward and upward

Yea saw that coming a country mile away.

I follow a few Georgia football-related Twitter accounts, and they've been retweeting a ton of support for keeping DC Jeremy Pruitt on staff.

And some tweets here and there calling for AD Greg McGarrity's head job.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Mark Richt is an excellent coach, and an even better person. Players and former players are extremely upset about this. He went 19-6 the last two seasons with absolute scrubs at QB. I don't know who they will get better. It's the same thing with LSU, you can MAYBE poach an elite coach to make a lateral move or you can MAYBE hit a homerun with Tom Herman IF he turns out to be as good as I think he will be, but you have an elite coach right now. It's an odd coaching climate we are in right now. Extra glad we've got our guy.

Extra glad we've got our guy.

A bird in the hand is still worth two in the bush.

I just saw the new Fuente contract from Andy Bitter AB Fuente Contract Article

I like the buyout clauses, it looks like Fuente will be here for the long-term.

I hope in no way, do our boosters or football supporters throw a Georgia mutiny to fire a coach after what looks like will end up a 10 win season, Mark Richt's probably the second most liked coach only behind Frank, it's not like he rubs guys the wrong way. That was the ONLY thing that made sense with LSU, is that administration just might not work well with the guy.

Probably deserves it's own thread.

MARK RICHTS GOING TO BE VIRGINIA TECHS NEXT OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR. He basically declared it in his press conference. He said he wanted to get back to hands on coaching calling plays and working with QBs, I don't know how more transparent he could be, he basically is on the plane to Blacksburg already.

But in all honesty. I don't think I've seen a classier press conference and it was from a guy who just got fired from what he declared his "dream job". Georgia's AD just put a 12 month contract on his head, when they don't win 10 games next year guess who Bulldawg nation is coming after?

The PSU folks are already falling all over themselves after hearing that, since they just fired their disaster of an OC a day or two ago
