2015 Six Pick - Championship Week

Feels just like yesterday I was in Blacksburg tailgating for the Ohio State game and suddenly it's the end of the season. Time flies. It's Championship Week not just for the conferences, but also for a couple of 6 Pickers, as cds7c, HokieJoe3 and weaver22. Pick well fellas.

This is the closest Mark Dantonio gets to dancing ... and I like it.

Let's review my Random College Football almost predictions:

  1. A lot of 2 loss teams will be fighting for the last playoff spot - No, not quite
  2. Michigan State is my playoff sleeper - just on the outside looking in, so yes
  3. VT's offensive line still won't be able to handle a stunt ... again - Correct
  4. Mike London will sing Michael Jackson's 'Man in the mirror' at his end of the year presser - No, but he gave an eloquent speech on his way out
  5. Spread teams will continue to score on Alabama - well once to Ole Miss, then a BIG NOPE
  6. Reece Davis is going to be very, very good as Gameday host - yup, but those gambling discussions are rough
  7. Chris Fowler will be steady, if unspectacular as ABC's lead announcer - He was more than fine, partner
  8. Adidas unis will continue to be hot trash - low hanging fruit
  9. Anti-SEC media bias will be thrown around, when the conference gets skipped over for the Playoffs - inconclusive

  • The Stanford band's annual refresh/change of the mascot is one of the best things in college. So shitty and fantastic
  • USC annual staying in family for their next Head Coach is one of the worst things in college football. So shitty and uninspiring

Pick: Stanford by two scores. MANBALL for the win.

Clemson -5.5 vs North Carolina
8:00 pm ABC

  • DAMNIT, Dabo knew all along and has been laughing at us!
  • Interesting times ahead for Larry Fedora. He's about to get paid $4M a year and looks to have UNC really good again next year, but the Coastal competition is ramping up

Pick: Clemson by a touchdown, a late touchdown. This will be a close back n forth, high scoring game. The ACC will have the best CG for the second year in a row. Go ACC.

Iowa vs Michigan State -3.5
8:00 pm FOX

  • 12-0 ... I still DON'T believe, but good for their fan base to get to travel to Indy, that 5.5 hour drive back is gonna suck though
  • Mark Dantonio is a top 10, maybe even 5 footballs coach, isn't he. The B1G Ten is going to be a lot of fun for a few years

Pick: Sparty by 10 or more in a slow, lower scoring game.

Brothers Craft Brewing Resolute

Their 2015 flagship barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout aged nine-month on either Heaven Hills or A. Smith Bowman barrels. Starts thick, with a chocolaty head followed by complex harmony of vanilla, oak, chocolate, espresso, and a rich malts.

Alabama -16.5 vs Florida: If el Tractorcito gets going, this spread could be eclipsed in the 1st quarter.
Stanford -4.5 vs USC: Who knows what to expect from either team? The points sound like a safe bet.
Clemson -5.5 vs North Carolina: UNC will keep it close for 3 qtrs, but I don't see them keeping this one within 7 by the end.
Iowa vs Michigan State -3.5: Sparty looks pretty strong right now, and I still can't figure out how Iowa got to 12-0.

Temple +6.5 -- I don't love this pick. But Temple is pretty good....against Fuente at least.

Alabama -16.5 -- Leaned towards UF until it you said "UF might not score." Yep. Although, for posterity sake, I think there is a real chance this game ends 20-7....in case, I probably shouldn't take Bama -16.5.

Stanford -4.5 -- Okay, so I'm apparently an idiot. I had to google where this game was played, I thought it was played in someone's home stadium. Then I found it was played in "Santa Clara." I had to google where Santa Clara was. Still, inconclusive. Why are they playing in Santa Clara? What is "Levi's Stadium?" Oh, it's the 49'ers stadium with the bad turf. So Santa Clara must be close to San Francisico, which is kinda like where Stanford is located I think. So, home game for the red-colored-trees......This has been the college football version of "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie...."

Clemson -5.5 -- Don't love this one either, but Clemson's got a better defense than UNC has faced all year. And 'Quise Williams will do something to muck this up.

Michigan State -3.5 -- I do know one Iowa fan, and he's been really happy. But everytime I watch Iowa, I think, "Wait....who is Bobby Beathard? And is he related to this QB?" Then I have to go to my google machine again.......and the next thing you know, I'm standing in Santa Clara, looking for my Levi's, eating a cookie.

Clemson's defense did not look good against Syracuse and USCe (I've watched them all year) and I think stats don't tell the real story for Clemson D, way overrated. I think barring Fedora/Williams shooting themselves in the foot, they will score plenty on Clemson.
