Last night the Lady Hokies beat #8 Tennessee on Pat Summitt Court for the first time ever. Looking back over their schedule so far they have only dropped a road game to Georgetown. I hope the seats start filling up for their ACC schedule like they did in the Bonnie-ball days.

I'm all on in.
The vols had a 44 home game winning streak against unranked teams before losing to us yesterday. I've got a hunch that these lady Hokies are going to be ranked here soon.
I thought Buzz was good, but wow.
(Edit to add: I was really trying to imply that Buzz was somehow responsible for the success of the Lady Hokies, but it didn't come out that way. I'll just leave it the way it is, though.)
Usually when VP & HY are hot beyond the arc, they win. And VP stays hot at the foul line.
Wolff has done a great job turning our women's bball team into an actual division 1 program again. IMO though Whitt's next big hire is going to be a new women's bball coach who can build on that foundation and make us competitive in the ACC.
I don't see Whit making any big splashes coaching-wise if Wolff is making traction. Significant capital improvements are queued up for VT athletics and I think that will be the major focus moving forward.
Hearing Wolff speak a few times over the years, women's basketball is a tough business. Similar to Buzz's philosophy that there are only so many players good enough to play D-1, but a lot more openings and teams that can fill these scholarships; they get on these recruits early. By the way, Wolff is a no-nonsense, hard nosed, New Yorker that is worth listening to if you have the opportunity.
Also, he is Tywin Lannister.
That's an uncanny resemblance! Hopefully our coach doesn't get [SPOILER] in the [SPOILER] with a [SPOILER] by his [SPOILER]. Because that would be terrible for team morale.
I want that tie!
Kinda looks like a happier Jonathan Bank (Mike) from Breaking Bad
I've got #sauces that say the team isn't particularly enamored with his coaching style. Might become a recruiting issue long term. But #winning can make up for that kind of thing a good bit.
What was surprising is how the Lady Hokies steadily pulled away in the 2nd half and won easily. It was no fluke. I got to see the last part of the game, since the wifey watches women's bb, and I enjoyed it.
It's always a good day when you beat Tennessee! Congrats, ladies!
It tickles me immensely that your hatred of Tennessee is so pure.
You get a leg from me every time.
But their fight song is so damn catchy.
I assure you it isn't. Maybe catchy as in it makes me hate rocks. And the top of them.
Good ole Knoxville. Always known as a riparian mountain wilderness.
Sure, but these lyrics are better.
I F@$$ing love it! That will be playing as I roll down to Bristol!
And remember tickets are free! After 4 years of frustration being in the HT pep band for the gam it is awesome to see Wolfe turn It around.
From winning 2 games at the ACC tourney last year to this hot start hopefully at least a handful of ACC wi are in the cards and moving out of the cellar.
This team won by 40 last night...
but they one upped the boys with an even more terrible night at the free throw line. They went 9-21 last night. All in all though it was a pretty solid win continuing their upward trend.
Geeze man, I wish I weren't for far from home. Outside of VT football, I rarely get to watch any of our other sports.
As of today, this team is 10-1, and we outscore our opponents by almost 20 points a game.
I'm buying my final four tickets right now.
As of today the team is alos int he "Others Receiving Votes" category in both the Coaches and AP Poll!
AP has us 30th, Coaches tied for 36th. The true test will come in a few weeks with ACC play but the hot start has not gone unnoticed nationally.
That was as of last Monday as well, so we should get more votes come tomorrow, plus three of the bottom 25 all lost this week so that can only help. Close out Radford and Furman like they should and this team will be 12-1, which is as many wins as they had last year. A healthy Magarity and the infusion of energy Chanette has brought to the point has really changed this team around.
Awesome! Ladies sports have shown up big this year with soccer and basketball!
Today, our women's basketball team is opening up ACC play by taking on a very good Boston College team who went 11-1 through non conference play.
Halfway through the second quarter (Yes, women's college basketball uses quarters and not halves), they're up 25-17. Hoping they can hold on and capture that Top 25 ranking tomorrow!
I've just been watching, we're going to win this game.
Hokies win 58-33 over previously 11-1 BC!!
Held BC to 8 points in the 2nd half. Their D is not too shabby. The 30 points they held Furman to was the all time record low for VT. And BC is not Furman but still held them to 33.
Wow
