To Summarize The Article:
1) Knows the area well having spent time at GT, South Carolina, and VT, etc.
2) Diverse resume of coaching different facets of the football team
3) Learned from 2 of the greatest (Steve Spurrier and Frank Beamer)
4) Could bring in Torrian Gray to become ECU's Defensive Coordinator

If Withers gets the job, Shane and Stiney to JMU makes a ton of sense.
Not that I want them gone or wish bad things on either of them, it's just that JMU seems like a good landing spot. Shane can get that HC experience he needs. He's still in state (which I'm assuming is a plus for him?). And Shane and Stiney's recruiting wouldn't interfere with ours.
That would make a lot of sense. I think it would be a good move for JMU (young coach with strong pedigree and in-state connections) and for Shane (a strong, lower-tier, in-state program with reasonable expectations).
Plus, Grandma and Grandpa Beams wouldn't be far away!
If this concerns you, one of my good OSU buddies says TG is on Urban Meyers wish list.
In all honesty I'll be happy if we can keep TG for at least this one year to help with player/recruiting continuity. As far as anOSU goes that would be a great career move/resume builder but I have to imagine that if he were offered by them anytime soon it would be to stay a DB's coach.
For some reason this is how I imagine part of that interview going......
edit: After TG says no obviously.....
Bruce Feldman reporting that Shane, Brady Hoke, and Everett Withers have been interviewed.

(Link and article title originally contained "Shame Beamer" and it made me chuckle)
I'd take Shane out of those three.
Screen shotted it for ya:

I hate that pirate. I really hate that pirate.
Yarrrrghhh make a good point there.
We all hate that damn pirate!
Shame Beamer huh? He'll get after ya...with shame.
I find it odd that the article highlights his time at GT (one year as a GA) but ignores 3 years as a GA for Tennessee and 3 years coaching at Mississippi State.
That comment was in reference to him being familiar with the region. I guess Tennessee and Mississippi are far enough away that they didn't warrant mentioning
Withers goes to ECU I could see Shane going to JMU.
"...could have a "home" game every other year at VT visiting family for his entire tenure as coach"
A quick look at ECU's message board shows that most people are hoping it to be Shane now that Chizik and Randy Shannon are no longer interested/in the running. Seems to be down to Shane and Withers for sure, with most of them thinking Withers is overrated as a coach so Shane wins by default. That was also about 10 minutes of finals procrastination on a random message board though so take it for what it's worth.
Which board are you on?

(For the slow)
You're not the boss of me!
(30 seconds later)
AAAH My eyes, my eyes, they burn, they burn!
You're the kind of guy who slows down to almost a stop to look at a fenderbender on the other side of the road during 5oclock traffic on a Friday aren't you! You sick son of a B*... J/k!
Oh you commute on the DC beltway too?
Gosh those people suck.
Since I live in Rosslyn and work in DC I just take the metro. But, today I'm driving to Tech after work. I get to enjoy getting out of the city on a Friday evening taking 66 west. If this doesn't show how much I care about my girlfriend I'm not sure what does.
66 is the worse. Just wait when they Make it a toll, you'll have to pay to lose life.
Good reason for me to move into DC.
50 and 29 are going to be twin nightmares
Why is everyone so okay with Shane going to ECU? They just fired their head coach/alumni for one mediocre season. Feels like a toxic situation to me. I want better than that for Shane.
Toxic isn't always bad
To be fair, that situation also became fairly toxic for a while...
I'll be honest; I'd still hit it.
Ouch.
Tough forum on former pop icons who used to date a VT alum. She looked fine in the "toxic" years.
Wait.. who dated what?
Actually, I'm not sure if he's an alum or just a fan, but she was spotted a few times in VT gear, so she's OK in my book.
Seeing VT stuff on Under Armor gear is so weird.
As long as it's VT stuff, I'm good with it.
I like celebs wearing VT stuff.
Perhaps I'm alone, but if Nike doesn't show us the $$$ that Whit wants to see, I would love for us to go with Under Armour and stay far, far away from Adidas.
Just curious, what's wrong with Adidas? I honestly don't follow the ups and downs of athletic manufacturer sponsorships/partnerships.
Adidas is responsible for this in basketball...and I'm pretty sure they were the ones pushing those questionable at best all chrome helmets on the field this year

Besides the Zubaz style that BreakZoneHokie posted, I'm just not a huge fan. I don't like a lot of their uniforms that they've done compared to Under Armour and their advertising of the unis is a bit of an eye sore.
They are also responsible for quite possibly the worst fonts on a uniform since Comic Sans
The font choices are reminiscent of a 10-year-old being shown PowerPoint for the first time. WordArt does not make everything better!
What they have done to basketball uniforms this year is a crime
Possibly my favorite piece of VT gear is an Adidas hoodie. That being said I would be horrified if we ever signed with them.
But they did this for Texas A&M
And Notre Dame Stuff is pretty sweet from time to time
Actually ND switched to Under Armour for more money and they are making a much better look for them.
I don't have a problem with us switching but our branding has become synonymous with Nike's branding so anytime I see it with Under Armour it's just weird.
Starter for life.
Just don't say Russell. It's not pretty.

Never.
Brit dated a guy who is from VA, however said guy is clearly an idiot for CHEATING on her.
Went to high school with me and a really good golfer, never went to tech officially but was up there enough as if he was. Dude is a nice guy but is uber stupid to cheat on Brittany with a stripper. I do know being under the eye of the TMZ clan trying to find out any dirt they can be stressful.
What's that saying?
"No matter how beautiful she is, somewhere someone is tired of her shit".
Like Tony Parker on Eva Longoria - who really knows what's going on in the background. Not to get all sentimental but my sis is going through a divorce to someone who seemed like an awesome catch for her, but turns out he wasn't all that and a bag of chips. Not condoning cheating, but it's usually a sympton for a much larger underlying problem.
Nice, so we will be facing a five rb rotation for the next 10 years?
Brady Hoke would be the best possible choice if interviewed. The guy has won everywhere but Meechigan. Even let the refs and the video booth win a sugar bowl for him.
From what I gather talking to JMU folks in the know (full disclosure: my wife is a JMU alum and I've been to a bunch of their home games the past few years), it'd be a surprise if Withers left.
With that said, there's lots of talk even at JMU about whether Withers is a good coach, or if it's because he lucked into Vad Lee. Their defense was also atrocious this year, and remember, Withers made his name as a DC for lots of quality programs. Now from my vantage point, if he's offered the ECU job, he should take it now while he's still got some momentum on his side.
Withers receiving a 2nd interview Sat. at ECU.
Coaching search reporting that the FayEtteville Observer states that lil Beams is no longer in the running for ECU.
Rumor has it that when asked about who he would bring in for his staff the "platoon coaching" proposal he's been pushing hasn't gone over well in interviews. The idea is seen as too radical for many ADs. I hope he gets his shot eventually but it's going to take a progressive, forward thinking AD who will buy into his coaching style. It could be a while before he lands a gig but he's willing to play the waiting game.
Pardon
my ignorance, but what the hell is "platoon coaching"?everything about this post.Damnit, I'm embarrassed. I seriously envisioned some new fangled concept that he came up with where he has the DC and the OC switch coaching positions mid game just to throw off the play calling sequence...
I'd actually pay to watch this.
It happens to us all.
My reaction to this post was:
Hmmm, interesting idea. I wonder what that actually means.
Wait, this is a joke.
Does "rumor" mean it's been posted somewhere and I've missed it?
*considers checking usual places*
Wait, this is a joke.
This is definitely a joke.
The fact that this was even plausible for a moment in my mind is both upsetting to me and hilarious.
Well done.
I saw the same, looks like Brady Hoke just moved up the list.
I mean what has Shane done to warrant a head coaching job.
You never know. ECU may just be swinging for the fences. Dabo was once a 38 year old position coach who got promoted to head coach.
Isn't that the exception not the rule.
For sure. Just saying it's not unprecedented. You had to be impressed with his enthusiasm during the Military Bowl. Basically Dabo is an energy guy who spends wisely on coaches. Shane could be the same thing.
It's ECU, not like we are talking about him battling for UGA or USCe (though his name did come up). I know they are moving up, but they are still where they are.
He has a lot of position coaching experience, has been an assistant HC, and I think in this day and age, some AD's are looking for someone who will hire great minds under him. Plus, he has coaching tree. Imagine he is stuck on something, he can call his dad.
Really?
1-0 as acting head coach?
I live near JMU and the radio here is saying that Withers has the ECU job.
Well that means Shane will be interviewing for the JMU job soon.
Best possible outcome. He goes to JMU and is still close by to Blacksburg. Also, he gets HC experience and I can pull for him without worrying that he will get a recruit from us... I hope this happens. Granted, this is completely selfish on my part as a Hokie fan, but lets all make this happen. #SHANETOJMU
I guess I'm a little out of the know, but do you think there any chance he is retained by CJF? Probably unlikely, since he's a HC candidate, but if he can't land a reputable HC position, it might not be bad idea for CJF to make him an offer to keep him on staff.
