Trevor Knight released from scholarship

Is Fuente and Co. going to take a look at him? Katy Perry thinks he's awesome BTW:

He had a nice farewell statement as well, from your link:

"My decision to reach out and communicate with other potential programs is something I feel I must do in order to see if there is a perfect fit for my senior season," Knight said. "I can promise you that no one is more proud to be a Sooner than I am, and in no way shape or form will this take away from my excitement and commitment heading into the championship season. I am truly touched by the support from both Coach Stoops and Coach (Lincoln) Riley, as well as all of Sooner Nation during this time.

"Enough about me. Let's go beat the Tigers. Boomer!"

As for accepting him as a transfer if he wanted to come here, I am generally opposed to bringing in transfers late in their careers. I prefer to bring guys in for their full eligibility and train them. Note that I say generally, because anyone who wants to be a Hokie is okay in my book, and it would be worth taking a look toward seeing how they fit.

I wonder if his opinion changes if Baker goes down with an injury and he leads OK to an MNC. Was his release from scholarship effective immediately? Is he already gone? Or will he be on the sidelines during the playoffs?

I agree with the outlook on QBs unless it's to fill and immediate vacancy like we did with Brewer.

In Fuente I trust.

So now we're into the Knight's Watch?

Knight looked like a big time QB against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl a few years ago. Has he fell off that much? He probably wouldnt be a bad option tho

Can never have too many TEs on the roster.

Ha, this guy. Perfect.

I think it's quite a shame what Katy Perry did to Knight's career. He was riding high and as soon as Perry went on Gameday and did her Trevor Knight segment he lost that same day (the first of 3 losses in his next 5 game span), then got hurt, came back for the bowl game to get drubbed by Clemson and lost his starting job.

Who knew Katy Perry's public affection could have such a negative impact on your life.

I would be willing to risk it.

For science!

great QB but i prefer Fuente's focus on recruiting the #1 Juco QB and his brother... I hope he finds a university that can use him...maybe A&M? i trust Fuente's intuition when it comes to his QB preferences

Yeah this weekend has a much better possible outcome on campus right now. Pulling out all the stops it looks like

He was dating a really pretty girl from Clemson, don't know if he still is or if that would play into his decision geographically.

Let's go after him too ...then Kyle Allen. We need QBs. I need QBs. Give me another. I want more. I want all the QBs

Don't you tell ME when to stop, I'll tell you when I've had enough!! Just fill it up and sign another QB.

At a certain point scholarship numbers say there is a limit to how many QB's you can have on a roster and still field quality backups and get young guys into the system for the future. What that number is I don't know but it can't be too far above what will be on scholarship next year, 5/6.

We are going to walk about a dozen kids to the door with their bags packed this winter. It won't be pretty but it's necessary.

You think Whit/Sands will allow scholarships to be yanked or will kids just be told they won't play? One I think is ok the other is SEC low.

Hard to say, we are in foreign waters. Under Beamer, it seemed kids were painted a realistic picture of their opportunities to play prior to Feb 6AMs. It can have a big impact if someone says you have no shot at playing right before you need to bust your ass at 6am three days a week for three weeks. Like most other teams, we also walked guys who were somewhat injured because you can say they will never recover and still pay for their education.

But with a new coach, you can just tell a kid they don't match what is needed for the position anymore and not renew their scholarship. I believe the ACC is still on annual renew scholarships.

Not renewing the scholarship of a kid who is putting in the effort on the field and in the classroom is a real dick move, and I would think less of any coach that resorted to that

Pylons of Promise says VT will award 4-year scholarships.

http://www.hokiesports.com/pylons/

FOUR-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP COMMITMENT
Athletics scholarships may be awarded on an annual or multi-year basis. Four-year scholarships are available for full equivalency scholarship student-athletes entering Virginia Tech. All scholarships set forth in writing the amount of the scholarship, the duration and any conditions of the award. Scholarship terms will be honored unless the student-athlete voluntarily leaves the team, renders himself or herself ineligible, or violates NCAA, ACC, university or department policies. Any reduction of a scholarship's terms may be appealed to an independent panel. Scholarship terms will not be reduced because of a student-athlete's injury, illness, or physical or mental condition which prevents or limits participation in athletics, nor on the basis of a student-athlete's athletics ability or athletics performance.

Would be a major black eye for one of Whit's signature initiatives to have a kid say he was no longer welcome on VT's football team with this policy in place.

Ahh, that's right. I remember they were talking about it but I couldn't remember if it went into effect.

Ahh yes, but that's why the TE position exists

I'm actually super excited to have Evans, Motley, Lawson, and maybe Durkin, C. Evans in the QB room?

Don't forget josh jackson

Thank you sir...my wife showed me how to do it as well.

Science

Absolutely not. He's not really a D1 QB. Great athlete, but have any of you watched him play or did you just see transferring QB and think maybe we should try and get him?

I would not waste a scholarship spot on a player with 1 year of eligibility that is very likely not going to contribute. I think his best shot to play will be at a G5 team or FCS.
