Incoming Virginia Tech DE Jimmie Taylor Profiled

The Daily News published a recent profile on 2016 early enrollee DE Jimmie Taylor. The Southwest (Jacksonville, NC) standout's senior season was cut short with a broken hand.

"I landed wrong on my hand. I thought I just jammed it so I kept going. I didn't even bother to tape it up or nothing like that. I played the rest of the game. Then I let my dad see it and he noticed my hand was swollen like a baseball mitt so he took me to the ER and they said it was broke. Then the doctor said I was done for the season," Taylor said.

Taylor discussed how Frank Beamer's retirement affected his recruitment, his goal to see the field as a true freshman, and new Hokies' head coach Justin Fuente.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Taylor said he had spoken with Beamer's replacement, Justin Fuente, who came to Virginia Tech from Memphis.

"He said he was going to tweak the offense a little bit," Taylor said. "But he said everything I fell in love with when I picked Virginia Tech is still going to be there. He loves to work hard like I do. So we're going to have a good time."
